Does anyone use Avene skincare? Any good? I'm looking for something cheaper than my current Dermalogica

I'd love recommendations please. Can't really afford Dermalogica any more.

Any other brand recommendations gratefully received.

Skin is combination, a few lines (mid-thirties). My priority is a daily moisturiser with SPF that isn't greasy.

Also looking into serum as an anti-ageing strategy.

Thanks in advance

I've just moved from dermlogica to La Roche-Posay and am v impressed. Same skin type and age as you - my skin has never looked better - the only down side is that their moisturiser doesn't contain spf but I use their spf 30 fluid as well - I find that I'm using the SPF as a day moisturiser and then moisturiser at night.

naturelover · 10/05/2011 17:07

Thanks blalalablabla, that's exactly the sort of endorsement I wanted! I was considering La Roche-Posay but it looked like it was just for "problem" skin and mine is quite ordinary.

Please can you tell me which products you use?

Thanks

I also use La Roche Posay (Toleriane Riche) and can recommend it - it doesn't contain sunblock though. Also, Eucerin Aquaphor SPF 15 day cream feels very similar to LRP. Give it a try? Finally, if you need sunblock, check out LRP Anthelios. All of these products are fantastic value.

Oh, and I'm 38, combination skin, few lines, some redness but now that winter is over my skin is really normal.

latrucha · 10/05/2011 20:03

I've used Avene and La Roche Posay and much prefer the second.

blabalalalablabla · 10/05/2011 20:56

Well for comparison - I used to use the dermal clay cleanser or special cleansing gel and active moist from dermalogica - now after much research and deliberation at the LRP section of boots use the Effaclar range - I use the purifying cleansing gel and the Effaclar M moisturiser. I am tempted to try the Effaclar K when I run out as I couldn't decide between the two when I first changed products. I also use the Anthelios SPF

Hope that helps?

Thanks bla, that's very helpful.
I'm off to Boots this weekend and will also look at Eucerin (had forgotten about that brand - thanks DonaAna)

Hi, reading with interest as I have been desperate for some good skin products at an affordable price. Blabla, could you let me know what you pay for the cleansing gel and moisturiser?

TIA

blabalalalablabla · 11/05/2011 18:06

great - let us know how you get on - Jezabelle - I can't remember the exact price but around £10-15-ish. Think boots has a selection online if you look on there.

Avène is excellent, as are Bioderma and A-Derma. Am not personally a fan of La Roche Posay (hate the smell of many products) but it is good stuff generally.

naturelover · 11/05/2011 18:34

Bonsoir do you know if those French brands are at all cheaper in France? I'm going to France on holiday next month. Thanks

Avene do a lovely moisturising mask.

Bioderma do this really good cleansing water. Can't remember what it's called but the bottle has a pink top. I'm going to France next month and plan to stock up. I'll also be buying some Nuxe Reve de Miel cream - a gorgeous-smelling moisturiser.

TheRtHonCountessOfBapula · 11/05/2011 19:14

Ahh - the Bioderma stuff is called Crealine H2O.

Bickies · 11/05/2011 20:06

Apologies nauturelover, I'm sort of hijacking your thread here but I'd like to ask Bla (sorry tried a few spelling attemps and couldn't quite ever get it spot on... Bla, do you have oily skin and if yes is that why you use the Effaclar range? I have oily/combi skin and I am prone to break outs around the nose. I think I have mild rosacea. If you know more about the range and what might help me could you please let me know. I need cleanser and moisturiser.
Many thanks.

Louise279 · 11/05/2011 20:33

I have only used avene handcreme but was very happy. I buy dermalogica online though, you can get some good deals as these companies dont have a lot of overhead costs eg www.jerseybeautycompany.com.

pollyblue · 11/05/2011 20:34

I have sensitive combination skin, some fine lines around eyes but still occassional pesky spots on chin (depsite being 40, gah). I love Eucerins Dermo Purifyer cleanser. It's the only one I've used which cleans really well, balances my skin but doesn't leave it at all dry and tight. I had tried LRP's purifying cleansing gel but it did dry me out. Moisturisers - Eucerin's Q10 active anti-wrinkle day cream is lovely and light (oil free) and recommended for normal/combination/sensitive skin. Also just bought Avene's Hydrance Optimale SPF 20, and love it, moisturing but leaves skin nice and matte.

Bickies · 11/05/2011 20:38

Great, many thannks.

blabalalalablabla · 11/05/2011 20:41

Bickies - I'd say I have combination skin - I did look at LRP as I feel I have v large pores and it has really helped reduce them - so much so that I am happy to leave the house without foundation!

I don't really know much about the range - just what I've researched on t'interweb - they do do a range specifically for rosacea calledRosaliac

Hope that helps?

naturelover · 11/05/2011 22:11

No problem Bickies!
Really good recommendations, thanks everyone.
A-derma and Bioderma are not as expensive as I'd feared.
I've been faithful to Dermalogica for years but I feel like my skin has changed and I need to use something different.

naturelover - yes, stock up in France. Whereabouts are you going? Prices can vary a lot as the parapharmacie market is cut throat at present.

naturelover · 12/05/2011 14:20

rural-ish Normandy!

Thanks again everyone, it's lovely to communicate with such open and unselfish people.

Abr1de · 12/05/2011 18:00

Avene is good, in my experience, better than most UK brands, but not QUITE as good as Dermalogica for very very sensitive skin. But much cheaper and definitely worth trying.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 12/05/2011 22:27

I bought some Avene moisturizer from Monoprix having read the thread. I hope it's good. I will be trying it this eve. Looked at all of the brands in the 10 mins I had and this seemed h best for SPF moisturizer.

Of course I grabbed some argan oil while I was there too....

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/05/2011 07:25

LRP is cheaper in Boots than in France, but you only get a fraction of the range. I like LRP (it is medical grade skincare and recommended by dermatologists) and Avene. Trying Nuxe moisturiser at the moment, and that's good too. Best cleanser ever is Cetaphil - currenly using Crealine H2O, which is OK, but Cetaphil is much better for my skin - makes a visible difference to how it looks, and I get far fewer spots.
