What comfy but stylish footwear can I traipse around New York in?

I know you said no trainers, I hate them for anything other than the gym myself but I do like Converse. Have you thought about them?

I haven't heard of Campers either, I will google them now and I'm on the Birkenstock website now, there are plenty of colours to choose from which is nice!

Naot sandals. They're Israeli and it's better than having nothing on your feet.

Despite not wanting trainers, converse is a good rec. Naot too. It is NYC, the humanity is overwhelming. Go for comfort and distance. Anyone scrutinizing you is most likely considering how to steal your purse, not admiring your look.

You don't tend to see many Birkenstocks in NY (which is why I like wearing mine so much!)

whenever I'm in nyc in the summer, all I see are women wearing tiny thin flipflops - no heels ever! I mean the cheapest kind you can get - honestly, all you hear on the streets is the slap slap as they hit the pavements. Personally, I'd wear fitflops - the ones with thicker soles - you can literally walk for miles in comfort

Oooh, I remember I had a pair of silver Naot from a shop in London a few years back. They were the comfiest sandals I've ever own, and didn't give me blisters for 2 weeks whilst I wore them in, unlike my last two pairs of birkies. does anyone know if you can buy them online?

I have the above, have walked for a week in Cornwall and a weekend in Paris in them - they are very comfortable and if you have nice feet/nail varnish these ones look great - I have the Pewter - a sort of dullish silver

If you worry about people treading on your toes in flip flops these are super comfy. In fact, I wear them around the house too as they feel like slippers and I go walking in them too:

I second the Naots. Fitflops don't fit me.

Birk Gizas are perfectly acceptable. Or Reef make flip flops with slightly sturdier soles and some arch support. Everyone wears flip flops in summer in NYC. The pavements are filthy -- at least flip flops are washable. And take some wipes in a plastic bag in your handbag so you can wipe your feet when they get gross.

If you're going down the flipflop route, Havaianas are very comfy and last for years.

Toms, really comfy had have a cushioned insole and raised instep so they are not completely flat.
