do stop then Kerry-I carried on exercising and developed hard nodules on both of my achilles that required physio/ultrasound to sort out (after the physio had stopped laughing at my feet which apparently are 'the flattest feet she'd ever seen')

It's a normal pool. 60 lengths is just short of a mile.

I am now writing a feature on how difficult it is to get into the habit of exercise, which is supposed to have Helpful Hints and Tips. Along with how to goad yourself into eating more fruit and less fat. And drinking less. And getting more sleep.

Ahem.

I have not bought the inverted bra for the crepey boobages.
I made one from the foam offcut and stuffed it down a sports bra; in the vain hope that it would stop my massive norkages slapping together, becoming tangled together like spagetti or getting trapped behind my knees by accident during sleep.
With the hot flushes and heat I now have a spotty/heat lump wrinkly chest.

I keep eating packets of chocolate covered Brazils and, with huge commitment and concentration, persuaded myself that they are really fabulously healthy. And I should just eat more.

Km, think it was you asking about the funny bra thing. 'Twas me wot ordered it! Just arrived, looks like some sort of old-fashioned belted sanitary towel contraption. Not sure what to make of it, tbh. I can't see me letting DH see it, and I'd die if the DCs saw it on me.
Will have to wear under my usual night time bra and hope no one notices.
And I've realised I don't even have a crepey chest - maybe this way I never will! Will report back, anyway.

Managed Shred twice this week - building up slowly to the 'every day' concept. I also went to the gym on Sunday, so quite active for me. I do feel better for it, and it eases my back/shoulder pain a bit, so that's got to be good.

And I've lost a couple of pounds since the first thread started, which happily seems to have come off my waist, so the muffin doesn't make me cringe quite so much.

Blackduck, that stuff is all applied behaviour analysis which is my professional field.
It is extremely effective and works very well for me.

I will be attending a big academic conference in the States where there will be tonnes of people who manage exercise nad fitness programmes throguh behavioural contracts.
Fascinating.

MD - I haven't tried it, but looks an interesting idea!
Didn't get to do yoga so tad fed up now.....(teacher didn't turn up). Did a bit of a warm up though and hip feels a bit eaiser.

You have ot make a contract with yourself and keep to it essentially.

So, set your goals and then monitor them.

For example, I weigh myself once a week and chart it on a special tool so i can review trends over year. Only there are no trends as point is that it stays stable.

I'm very good at the making contracts bit. I have made multitiudes.

It's the sticking to them I struggle with. How does one do that?

habitjudo essentially says plan to do something, monitor the doing and give yourself a random number of points when you do it. Add random number of points up to get a treat ('points win prizes'). Then level up - like belts in judo.... His argument is it actually works better if the points are random because you will work harder to achieve them than if you know one run = 5 points.
I think, that is it, in essence....

Have a bit of self respect.

Peopel make the mistake of wanting to sort their heads before dealing with big changes. A behaviourist supports the view that your head will sort itself out as you change.

So instead of 'let me feel good about myself and then I will lose weight' a behaviousist says 'start losing weight and you will feel good about yourself.

Dick Mallott is a respected academic in this field of behaviour change who has quite an amusing website. He used to be a drunken slob, is now taut marathon runner.

Depends what works for you, frankly, if you talk to the health psychology types who've reviewed all the evidence. My feature is called 'carrot or stick: which works for you?' and tackles the different health areas where we're all being exhorted to make 'those few small changes' and looks at what seems, over the population, to work or not. In a fairly user-friendly women's mag way, obviously.

I don't have a prob with underlying issues or sorting my head out etc, I am just greedy and weak-willed. Perhaps tablets are the answer?
