I just bung it on with the foam side on the palm of my hand, squirt on some tanner and go hell for leather blending all over my bits, reapplying more tanner as necessary.

Now you've made me think I'm doing it wrong and I await some wise MNer to alert me to my mitt-failings Grin

Following a thread in the week about fake tan, I bought a mitt and used it yesterday. I did what pinot said and I got an amazing result, much better than when I've done it with hands and although I did wash my hands after it was much less messy.

Maiasaurus · 02/05/2011 15:00

Same as Pinot.

You will use a lot more lotion as it is soaked up by the foam, but the result is much more even and streak-free. And it means I will let DH do my back without risking the 'sunbathing under venetian blinds' look.

No tango-ed palms either.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 02/05/2011 15:03

A little tip for the soaked-in mitt, my DH takes the glove off me, wipes the back of my hands to even it out and then uses it on his face and arms to give the teensiest hint of a tan to stop him looking office-white iykwim, then he washes it - so I am all covered and not splashed by water and he is not ghostly pale.

:)

KingCnut · 02/05/2011 16:52

I always have to put a latex glove on underneath though coz I find my hand slides around and I end up with tan on the side of my hand....am I wierd then?! Grin

Collision I wouldn't use an exfoliating mitt for pre-tanning tbh, they're fine for everyday use but AFAIR they're more likely to encourage streaks with fake tan. A normal body scrub is better- Superdrug Vitamin E body scrub is the best there is IMO, and I've been through a lot! Plus it's only about 3 quid for a bit tube. HTH Smile

I use a tanning mit and love it. No streaks and no orange hands, and it is so quick !! I use St Tropez that I got in a set for xmas. I use the spray and spray directly onto the mit - not onto my skin- and just really really rub it in all over. I then use the tan accelerator in the same way - small bit onto the mit and rub it in all over. Once I have rubbed in everywhere I use the damp mit to go over my hands and feet to avoid the dreaded tan lines.

Fake tan used to terrify me, but now it only takes 10 mins thanks to using the mit. Love it Smile

Think I'll invest in a tan mitt - I've got some Vita Liberata coming this week and want to ensure I get a lovely, even glow. Smile

ggirl · 03/05/2011 22:38

can you buy them in boots?
and do you use the accelerator immediately afterwards?

MillyR · 03/05/2011 23:46

Well I can't do it. I have tried using the St Tropez tinted moisturiser in the light tan tone, with the boots tanning mitt. It is supposed to build to a gradual tan, but after one day, DH described my body as looking like a Jackson Pollock painting.

I do not know what I am doing wrong.

theladylovescupcakes · 04/05/2011 08:14

ggirl - i got one in boots yesterday, just over £2.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 04/05/2011 08:26

MillyR - you need Vita Liberata Rich Silken Chocolate. Seriously. I've raved about it on here before - it's the only thing my blue white skin and ginger hair can take that makes me look fairly tanned, not at all orange. And it has no smell.

wendihouse22 · 04/05/2011 10:53

Pinot....you're a lucky lady. My DH doesn't get involved with the whole self-tan operation.

ENormaSnob · 04/05/2011 10:56

I use rubber gloves and an old sock.

Fabulous results.

wendihouse22 · 04/05/2011 14:38

And you do what with the sock?

ggirl · 04/05/2011 15:42

PinotGrigiosKittens -where do you get the vita stuff?

Butterbur · 04/05/2011 16:18

Boots do the Vita stuff, if you don't want to get it online. I second what PinoGrigio said.

ggirl · 04/05/2011 16:28

please can you link to the actual one you recommend
have googled and there seems to be various

ggirl · 04/05/2011 16:30

this one

PinotGrigiosKittens · 04/05/2011 17:37

this is where I got mine from

I've been wanging on and boring people about this VL stuff for a while and it's truly brilliant stuff. I am literally blue I'm so pale and yet this stuff (plus tan mitt) makes me look healthy and a bit of colour - not a tan as such (though maybe after a 2nd or 3rd application I'd look bronzed) but it's all I need to be able to bare my legs and not scare little children with their glare Grin

ggirl · 04/05/2011 17:57

thanks will def get some

Finallygotaroundtoit · 04/05/2011 19:10

Pinot - blurb says it lasts 7 days - is it false tan or makeup?

PinotGrigiosKittens · 05/05/2011 13:03

It's self tan - I put it on about every 5 days but as I say I keep it light (sooooo many tan disasters in the past I err on the side of caution). It does last a while and has no smell so straight to bed afterwards with no biscuit smells in t'morning
