Can we talk bikini lines please? What do you all do??

Am desperate for a neat kempt bikini line that doesn't require daily maintenance or give me ingrown hair. Am I asking too much?

Shaving leaves me with permanent bristle, silk-epiling gives me horrid ingrown hair, am now at the Immac whip it all off stage, which means I'm either bald or stubbly all over. Not ideal. Do I need to go to a salon?? Is this what everyone else does???

I Immac but not the whole lot off, just the edges. and then trim it down with the razor but not so it's stubbly.

DuplicitousBitch · 25/04/2011 20:18

i use an epilator but i am fecking hard as nails

smokinaces · 25/04/2011 20:19

weirdly I have just asked my friends the same thing on FB!!

I just do the "undercarraige" and the edges. At the moment I use cream - but it grows back within a couple of days which annoys me. Just been recommended the veet bikini strips, but dont like the idea of lots of stubble.

If only you could get rid and its gone forever!!!

hermioneweasley · 25/04/2011 20:20

have sides waxed off at salon (DO NOT try home waxing your bikini line - it's a job strictly for professionals). have to vigorously exfoliate to prevent ingrowing hairs after though.

hermioneweasley · 25/04/2011 20:22

you can have laser treatment to get rid of hair forever, but it takes a few treatments and costs ££££

Either Immac or salon wax. And definitely exfoliate more than an exfoliating madman!

MadameCastafiore · 25/04/2011 20:24

Have had laser treatment and although is greatly thinnned still have hair there. I have every hair whipped off with hot wax (thanks to a lovely local mumsnetter pointing me in the right direction!) and then just use tendskin on the skin for a couple of days aferwards - have not had an ingrowing hair with the hot wax method!

onepieceofcremeegg · 25/04/2011 20:27

hermione I have always waxed at home, never had bikini wax at a salon. (have had legs waxed once and interestingly the beautician's technique is the same as mine.

OP I trim if necessary, then wax. After several years of doing this I am lucky in that regrowth is fairly slow. Can last maybe 8-10 weeks with the odd tweezer-ing out of occasional hairs in between.

If nervous but keen to try at home, buy the cold strips first (although the hot tub is more effective ime) and follow the instructions to the letter.

Carlywurly am in a similar predicament, but wondering what to do in the run up to having first DC. How to get the, ahem, MASSIVE bush down there a bit neater for the birth? I know I'll probably not give a flying toss when I'm in the throes of labour and i suppose the midwives have seen every type of bush going, but still, I'd like to at least try to make it better :)

It's so long, I could probably plait it, seriously.

But what do to? Tried shaving a tiny bit a few weeks ago (when I could still actually see my fanjo!) but the itchiness what horrific. Really don't want any more discomfort than is strictly necessary in that region. Is getting waxed at a salon the answer, or will it still be just as uncomfortable??

onepieceofcremeegg · 25/04/2011 20:28

I have had the occasional ingrowing hair in the past, but rarely now - almost as if my skin is sort of used to it.

onepieceofcremeegg · 25/04/2011 20:29

tiger whatever you decide, waxing or whatever, sounds like you need to give it a fairly good trim initially. (nail scissors, stand over loo or bin)

Asinine · 25/04/2011 20:35

Any sort of shaving, trimming or snipping makes me itch for weeks like I've got crabs Grin

Bonsoir · 25/04/2011 20:35

Yes, have it waxed at a salon every six-eight weeks (winter) / every month (summer)

tigerbear · 25/04/2011 20:36

Onepiece - tried to trim earlier - can't actually see my fanjo as am 37 weeks pg - was very difficult, even in front of a mirror Grin

boosmummie · 25/04/2011 20:37

Asinine metanium cream is really good straight after or at first sign of. I know it's for nappy bums, but it does the trick.

onepieceofcremeegg · 25/04/2011 20:37

tricky isn't it? Do you have a dp that you could bear to ask? fwiw I managed to paint my toenails at 39 weeks. I was gutted that no one noticed. I made a point of showing them off to the midwife moments after the birth. She smiled politely but I think she had other priorities at that point Grin

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 25/04/2011 20:43

I did bugger all until yesterday when I thought I might have a crack (snurk) at some topiary on the spur of the moment. Sadly I'm too pregnant to see what I'm doing, nicked my labia with a pair of nail scissors and missed half of the bit I was trying to trim in the first place. DH came home to me bleeding and sobbing with frustation and did it with his clippers for me, then immac'd the bits I really didn't want (just edges really). Looks alright, what I can see of it. Which is not a lot.

tigerbear · 25/04/2011 20:43

Grin at onepiece - I actually managed to do the toenails today!

carlywurly · 25/04/2011 21:04

ouch turtles Shock

thanks everyone, glad it's not just me. I know it's trivial but it irritates me to spend a disproportionate amount of time dealing with an area that only DP ever sees Grin

Trimming also makes me squirmingly itchy but Immacing the lot doesn't. Wish I could afford electrolysis, would happily get rid of it forever.

OP posts:
boosmummie · 25/04/2011 21:10

Ouch Turtles. Yep did that at 8½ months pg too!

Carly tis not trivial, it's grooming innit Grin. I think those of us saying Immac are showing our age!!!! HOW many years ago did it change name? Grin

doglover · 25/04/2011 21:13

Trim with nail scissors!!!

tigerbear · 25/04/2011 21:18

Oooh, Turtles, you poor thing! Have to say I did smile at your DH doing the rest for you - now that's love :)

messybessie · 25/04/2011 21:20

Ooh ooh, I never get involved in these threads but today, for the first time ever, I took my bush in hand (so to speak).

Trimmed with scissors and immaced the sides. But it still looks stubbly. Do I need to do it again or does it always look like that Blush

MissBeehivingChoclitWabbits · 25/04/2011 21:26

Waxing much better than shaving/immacing imo because you don't get a shadow.
