Stick to your guns Tetherend the Clarks and the Garnier can

harpsichordcarrier · 22/04/2011 22:20

usual that is SO weird... I had a very deprssing day trying to find sandals and on the way home in the car I was sighing to myself thinking 'I wish I could get some Jesus sandals like Clarks used to do...' I had a lovely tan pair and a navy pair when I was a kid and I LOVED those sandals.

usualsuspect · 22/04/2011 22:22

They look so comfy [old]

TethersEnd · 22/04/2011 22:23

irony doesn't work on S&B, usual... Wink

I'm a teacher too, harpsichord; hence my horror at those sandals Grin

I am embracing my teacherdom in every way, but particularly in the comfy shoes department.
I might even get a cord jacket with elbow patches

harpsichordcarrier · 22/04/2011 22:28

I like a nice wedge, and an ankle strap.
I am not WHOLLY committed to the gladiator thing, though. I fear they make one's ankles a little chunky

LadyCornyOfSilk · 22/04/2011 22:29

I like a nice wedge also. The best flatties are haviainas.

TethersEnd · 22/04/2011 22:32

Kurri, I quite like those too... at the moment it's

1st place = Clarks
2nd place = Fritzi's office ones (close second)
3rd place = Kurri's HoF ones

tethers look at aspiga

moondog · 23/04/2011 07:16

Howzabout these? Much groovier and that rubbery heel is v good shock absorber. I have a well cool frog green pair of Fly wedges.
Tres comfy.

Never has the word 'Gopping' been more appropriate. And that is my unhelpful contribution to this thread, no alternatives to suggest!

IngridBergman · 23/04/2011 07:48

Tethers, sorry but they are BAD. In fact nearly everything from clarks is old lady.

Clarks are patronising. They think we have no taste. Screw Clarks and buy something from a shop that LIKES you.

mrsbumbledosem · 23/04/2011 07:53

I like those Clarks one and I think they look well made. I had a look the other day at the Clarks stuff and decided have really stepped up the quality ( and the price) compared to say Office (which look good but seem to fall apart) and M and S which has lots of gladiator style sandals -which manage to be cheap looking and somehow miss the mark. Also the Clarks ones are leather lined which helps with sweaty feet.

I don't understand how you can look at them and say they are awful! But then my taste goes this way www.hm.com/gb/hasbeens

mrsbumbledosem · 23/04/2011 07:56

Also these ones are lovely handmade in sale

IngridBergman · 23/04/2011 07:57

The thing is you don't have to buy shoes from Office either, as yes they do always fall apart immediately. (unless they're another brand sold by Office iyswim). And M&S are guaranteed to be horrible.

There are loads of lovely shoes out there from companies such as Camper, Rocketdog, Dr Marten, etc etc that are well made and actually look nice.

Clarks shoes might be good quality but it's at the expense of looking good. Their market seems to be the over 60s.

moondog · 23/04/2011 07:58

I've got a lovely pair of sky high (not that high though) Hasbeens.
They are most definitely not walking sohes however.

IngridBergman · 23/04/2011 07:59

Fly shoes are made well, too. They do loads of sandals. And Scholl, and loads of others...just look at the Javari website for some ideas.

mrsbumbledosem · 23/04/2011 08:00

I got some Hasbeen boots on ebay for over 100 and I have worn them once. They need some serious wearing in. Then I saw thoes in H&M and could not resist. I put them on in store and so practised walking for an hour in them and they were surprisingly comfy. They straps really hold your feet and so they feel v supported.

mrsbumbledosem · 23/04/2011 08:02

But Fly shoes have that rubber sole that sometimes works sometimes doesn't. And rubber soles are un-re-sole-able.

Scholl, yes!

moondog · 23/04/2011 08:19

I like these from Dune.

The best ones roughly equating to what you want are from Dune or Pied a Terre on JL site.
