We have our work Xmas do in 3 weeks and have been looking at what to get - so far I had decided on these:

Top
Trousers
Shoes

Have now found out that between 2 other people attending they have virtually got this outfit between them - one person has got the same top and although they are wearing shorts as aposed to colloutes they are similar and then the other has got similar shoes! What do I do? I had my heart set on this outfit had spent ages looking and have just been waiting to have to money so I could get it and no someone has beat me to it.

Things is this was the only outfit I had seen and liked - I just don't know where else to start now.

I love the corset but would probably wear it with slightly glitzy jeans (probably bootlegs as I'm still in the dark ages) and boots.

I have to agree about the mix of colours, not sure it works.

lummox · 03/11/2005 16:04

I think you are being old-fashioned GhostofNatt. Sexual harrassment at work is a thing of the past, after all.

GhostofNatt · 03/11/2005 16:07

I just don't think that sort of second pair of breasts look people tend to get with corsets does anyone any favours especially not with likely muffintop from the tweed trousies, all teetering on some green heels, maybe i am being too frank...

Bozza · 03/11/2005 16:09

springchicken is a springchicken though....

weesaidie · 03/11/2005 16:11

Well I like the corset and in general agree with MrsSpoon!

Enid · 03/11/2005 16:11

god no

the trousers and shoes you could do (although shoes better gold) but NOT with that top

in fact surely a black dress with those green shoes.

Men will think those trousers are grim BTW so if you fancy anyone fgs dont buy them.

teeavee · 03/11/2005 16:13

you sure about that, lummox??

I think the green shoes with the culottes could look quite 'carrie bradshaw' - though what tights would you wear, springchicken? that might be a further minefield to consider

teeavee · 03/11/2005 16:14

black dress would look good with the shoes - or the bustier with black skirt - who cares if your sil is wearing a skirt too ? it's allowed!

Bozza · 03/11/2005 16:15

Yes I had wondered about the tights thing? Couldn't bare my milk bottle legs at that time of year. Thats why I usally end up wearing boots with my short trousers.

Springchicken · 03/11/2005 16:55

Well just caught up from doing my ASDA run this afternoon and I have well and truely been told!

In my defense, I didn't realise the trousers were brown - thought they were black - maybe I;velinked the wrong thing. Anyway, agree the colours don't go.

I am going with fianceé so defo not interested what other blokes think.

Dress is too OTT I think, for me personally. Don't think I would feel overly comfortable. So should I go with the shoes, similar style trousers but in black and a different top?
Thanks for all off your opinions btw.

And it's also nice in a sick kind of way that I know you lot would grimace at my SIL's outfit - think i will have a little chuckle to myself

bonym · 03/11/2005 17:09

Maybe I'm just not trendy enough, but aren't the culottes a bit "daytime"for a Xmas do?

Bozza · 03/11/2005 17:11

Yes that had crossed my mind bonym. I think they are the same ones that Cod is on about getting on another thread and I think she is thinking daytime but could well be wrong there!

Springchicken · 03/11/2005 17:13

Ok, on that note I'll give up and wear something I've already got and class it as vintage

OP posts:
peckarollover · 03/11/2005 17:16

I dont think cuollotes are too daytime at all with the right accessories.

Bozza · 03/11/2005 17:16

At least more money for drinks then!

Springchicken · 03/11/2005 17:19

Thanks Pecka - i feel slightl re-assured. For the first time in my life I am dreading going shopping tomorrow, just feel clueless atm. btw, postal order is winging it's way to you

Bozza, it's a free bar so for once having more money for drinks doesn't help - i've got the cash for an outfit and can't seem to be able to spend it.

peckarollover · 03/11/2005 17:22

oh you tinker

Ladyofleisure · 03/11/2005 17:24

theres a really nice midnight blue corset dress in next with 2 options of detachable straps. if you like the corset idea? not sure how to link but its under evening wear and midnight blue.

Springchicken · 03/11/2005 17:32

Thanks LOL - Next is a bit of a no go as a few of the ladies going are Next lovers and shop solely in that shop.

Bozza · 04/11/2005 21:20

springchicken I have been on the River Island website and seen some black culottes which are quite dressy that maybe you intended to link to rather than the herringbone brown ones. I think they would deffo go with your gorgeous (IMO) green shoes and the corset. I would wear the culottes and shoes but not the corset, but then I am 32 without much bust.

teeavee · 04/11/2005 21:29

God, no not Next! SUCH a boring shop!

compo · 04/11/2005 21:31

Where do you work, what kind of works do is it? Bustier too racy for anythign but a night club imo. Nice LBD much more suitable

teeavee · 04/11/2005 21:36

if you can carry it off, a bustier is fine, and would be nice with black culottes and boots/shoes - but WHAT TIGHTS???

mazzystar · 05/11/2005 21:59

shoes are fabulous.

have you tried topshop for tops? or can you hang on till thursday when stella hits H&M. Surely will have glam top to go with the rest?

am so jealous, am freelance now so no work xmas dos and no excuse for such fabulous shoes

and teavee - very fine fishnets...but not with bustier for obv reasons
