V short bridesmaids dresses

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:28

I have three bridesmaids, one pregnant, one very petite (size 8 coast too big on her) and one very tall (6ft + in heels) with amazing curves.

Going for mismatching dresses as easiest way (plus I love the look). Due to colour issues, they are having ivory and have chosen their own, my only guidence was for a vintagey look (rather than anything too fashioney or modern).

I LOVE the dresses they have chosen, and they all look amazing! Especially the tall one - except her dress is actually pretty short on her. I mean, she is knockout in it as her legs are fabulous, but I'm not sure if it is appropriate? I just want them to feel and look their best so I'm not worried, but I showed a pic of her wearing it to DP and his reaction was 'woah! that is waaaay too short'

She doesn't look slutty, just really striking - this is the dress www.monsoon.co.uk/new-in/fusion-cherith-lace-dress/invt/85317141/#readReview

Thoughts? I am not worried about her detracting from me or anything silly like that btw! Just checking what everyone would think if they saw a bridesmaid flashing her legs at a wedding...

Erm, that is SHORT. Is it a church wedding?

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:36

No, and it's not traditional at all, quite laid back.

Hmmm so you think inappropriate?

OP posts:
LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:37

And I have to say, it comes higher on her than it does on the model...

diddl · 15/04/2011 16:42

It´s a lovely dress-more party than bridesmaid, though imo.

But maybe that doesn´t matter if you´re not going for traditional?

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:45

Well here are the other two bridesmaids dresses - none of them particularly traditional bridesmaid

I want them to be able to wear them again (I know all brides say that, but I'm determined that this will actually be the case!) so non bridesmaidsey doesn't worry me too much. It's just the length!

I've got a pic tall bridesmaid in hers - let me just black her face out and I'll post on my profile...

JackieNo · 15/04/2011 16:47

The Karen Millen one looks shorter than the Monsoon one, but I don't think it'd bother me, really. They all look lovely.

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:49

Karen millen bmaid is very short and petite so it doesn't accentuate it as much

Having looked on your profile, I do kind of see what you mean, she looks fab, but it is a lot shorter on her than it looks on the Monsoon site. Don't know really - if she's happy, and you're happy, it's just DP you have to convince.

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:53

I know - but he's not supposed to get a say in the BM dresses anyway is he? Grin

He thinks everyone will just be staring at her legs rather than me when we walk down the ailse...I'm terrified about that part so maybe that's doing me a favour!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 15/04/2011 16:54

I know - you'll just have to make her wear black opaque tights with it Grin Wink. Or leggings... Grin

diddl · 15/04/2011 16:56

I think it is a bit short-more for an evening reception.

I know it makes me sound/seem oldfashioned, but it would never occur to me to wear a dress that far above my knees for a wedding tbh.

happilyeverafter · 15/04/2011 16:57

Great dress, really suits her shape. My experience of fitted dresses is that they usually look much shorter at the back though. I would be ok with the front if you are going for a chilled out vibe but if the back looked much shorter then it might be the talk of the day rather than your lovely wedding.

MerylStrop · 15/04/2011 16:58

She looks great.

Why would anyone be bothered?

It's not tarty at all.

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:59

for what reason though diddl (assuming there are other occassions where you would wear a short dress)? Just curious why weddings in particular (in cases where they are non religious)

Damn I thought I'd get this answer but I really cba to keep looking for dresses, I'm such a lazy bride...

x posted with more positive replies!

Thanks meryl I don't think she looks tarty. I'm not bothered at all, I think she may get some nice attention on the day, but DP's reaction made me think I should garner further opinion...

OP posts:
diddl · 15/04/2011 17:04

I would only wear a short dress to partyGrin

I certainly wouldn´t wear one to church.

But that´s just me.

If you´re happy, then it doesn´t really matter, does it?

I suppose I just see it as a "look at me" dress, & wonder why someone would choose it for their friends wedding.

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 17:09

I don't think she chose it in that way, but she was trying to be on brief (which initially was vintage with lace, though I relaxed that for my other friends who couldn't find anything). She's tried on about 10 dresses but none of them looked nice on her - and the problem with her height is that it is long legs rather than body, so many dresses end up short on her.

I am happy but I feel bad about diregarding DPs opinion (he isn't happy about her wearing it) but she has tried on literally every other ivory lace dress currently on the high street...

collision · 15/04/2011 17:10

I do think it is short esp for a bridesmaid but is she confident and comfy in it?

Could the bridesmaids walk down the aisle first and get the gawping out the way and then the cong can focus on you? Wink

geordieminx · 15/04/2011 17:11

What colour are you wearing?

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 17:15

Yes collision that's how I'm doing it - flower girls, then bridesmaids, then me.

I'm in white. I know, I know....but this was my inspiration

I think she looks great and if you put it with some nude tights and some nice shoes and some simple accessories she will look grand, it is short but not tarty short. :)

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 17:22

The shoes are the ones she is wearing in the photos - they are coral

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/04/2011 17:22

Is she comfortable in it?
