V short bridesmaids dresses

LittlePickleHead · 15/04/2011 16:28

I have three bridesmaids, one pregnant, one very petite (size 8 coast too big on her) and one very tall (6ft + in heels) with amazing curves.

Going for mismatching dresses as easiest way (plus I love the look). Due to colour issues, they are having ivory and have chosen their own, my only guidence was for a vintagey look (rather than anything too fashioney or modern).

I LOVE the dresses they have chosen, and they all look amazing! Especially the tall one - except her dress is actually pretty short on her. I mean, she is knockout in it as her legs are fabulous, but I'm not sure if it is appropriate? I just want them to feel and look their best so I'm not worried, but I showed a pic of her wearing it to DP and his reaction was 'woah! that is waaaay too short'

She doesn't look slutty, just really striking - this is the dress www.monsoon.co.uk/new-in/fusion-cherith-lace-dress/invt/85317141/#readReview

Thoughts? I am not worried about her detracting from me or anything silly like that btw! Just checking what everyone would think if they saw a bridesmaid flashing her legs at a wedding...

She looks really fab, though it's a shame your DP isn't happy and if it's going to distract him on the day I might pause (I don't mean he'll be gawping at her, just being distracted by the whole issue). I might worry whether she'll feel as comfortable on the day if there are people there who do think it's inappropriate (as evidently some people do think that). You don't want her feeling awkward and tugging at her hem. If she's not the type to crumble under the glare of an aunt (or you don't have aunts like mine), then fine.

I didn't have a traditional church wedding btw.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2011 19:47

I had a church wedding and my sil wore a very short dress as did my nephews then 16 year old girlfriend.

I had my shoulders exposed which I think is a bit taboo from what I can tell but sod it was our wedding day and I didn't give a rats ass what other people wore. It's all a bit mountain out of molehill no one will care on the day.

Better to have attractive bridesmaids, mine wore ivory too. I wore gold/coffee colour.

I'm such a rebel (not!).

LittlePickleHead · 16/04/2011 21:13

Just catching up with the posts - I'll pass all the complements about her legs onto my friend, I'm sure she'll be pleased!

It does seem there is a mixture of opinion, so I guess whatever we do we won't please everyone. If we had them in matching shiny single colour satin some would be happy, some would think it was boring and dull and not considering each bridesmaid's individuality. I'd rather have some people think I was a bit risky and inappropriate than boring actually...

There are obviously elderly relatives coming but none so frail they would faint at the sight of an exposed knee I don't think...

I don't think DP will mind massively, perhaps he just knows what his mates will be thinking, but oh well!

I don't have long enough to keep on faffing around over bridesmaids dresses - if they look and feel good then I am happy :)

It's see through!! She is either going to have to be super-confident or very very careful with her underwear. That would bother me more than the length.

LittlePickleHead · 16/04/2011 22:03

I've seen it - it's not that bad, but she also had a nude slip thing like this that she is wearing

You can't see her underwear in the photo?

The review says :- "Beautiful fabric, but this dress is totally see-through! Looks ivory on-screen but is almost buttermilk in colour in person. It's going back."

How is it going to look in the photo's I wonder.

LittlePickleHead · 16/04/2011 22:47

Well, all I can go by is that I have seen her wear it in the flesh, it didn't look buttermilk to me, looked ivory, and I don't think in the photo on my profile it looks see through? Surely if she is wearing a nude underslip that will eliminate any camera flash problems?

You seem happy with it and as you say you cannot spend weeks worrying over the dresses other people are going to wear, she looks great, onwards to the next crisis decision :)

noddyholder · 16/04/2011 22:58

She looks fab its a lovely dress. Who makes all these silly rules about what is appropriate ? The only thing too short is life for this sort of nonsense

Sidge · 16/04/2011 23:01

She looks amazing but looks like she's wearing a petticoat.

I would watch out for the 'she's forgotten her dress' comments.
