Would you ever buy 2-3 dresses same style, different colour?

I wouldn't. I do wonder if the reviews onthe Boden (!!!!) site are always genuine- and not posted by Boden staff.

often, people say they have bought a dress in 3 colours. Apart from the fact that this costs £££s, I would feel rather silly wearing the same dress on different days in different colours. A T shirt yes, a cardi, just possibly- but drsses?

I have got 2 dresses, same style different colour. Not boden though, much cheaper! I thought they suited me and I could not decide which colour.

mrsravelstein · 13/04/2011 18:42

i just bought a fab dress from a local shop, went online to look up the brand and discovered they do it in 2 other colours... am sorely tempted to buy it in red as well as the black i've already got... but it is a particularly wonderful dress that is incredibly flattering, so i wouldn't say i usually would

dobby2001 · 13/04/2011 18:45

erm, I have. In my defence I rarely buy boden unless via ebay or in the sale as I just cannot aford it new. Bought a dress that REALLY suited my beached whale figure. Following week the dress had been reduced further and it was in 2 other patterns - as opposed to colours, so does look very differant.

These are now my "need a smart frock" staples as i spend most of my working life in jeans and babysnot covered tops Grin

just realised how sad and untrendy this now makes me Blush

ValiumBandwitch · 13/04/2011 18:48

I did that once, but it was 2 h&m dresses, one black, one green. And 60 for the pair of them. I'd never order two dresses the same on line especially when they are not bargain prices.

ullainga · 13/04/2011 18:49

yes, I have. If I find something that really fits and flatters, why not? Other people don't really pay that much attention to you to actually notice that the blue dress you are wearing is quite similar to the red you had a couple of weeks ago.

cabbageroses · 13/04/2011 18:49

You are all forgiven. The culprits I am looking for buy 3 dresses @ £95 each or 5 cashmere cardis at £90 each and say "I just had to have all colours".

yeah.

ValiumBandwitch · 13/04/2011 18:52

Yeah, that sounds like a staggering work of great fiction Grin

ttalloo · 13/04/2011 18:54

I recently bought a dress in the same style but different colour from Jaeger, and again from LK Bennett, because they are both really flattering and practical (they go in the washing machine so I save a fortune every week on dry cleaning). I wear them for work and accessorise them differently so that the black and purple ones from Jaeger, for example, are less obviously the same.

But I've given up buying Boden clothes because the sizing is so variable, and the cut is almost always utterly awful.

doglover · 13/04/2011 18:58

I've got 2 Boden everyday jersey dresses in different colours. I have no problem wearing them to work - the style suits me and they're comfortable. Each to their own!!

tulpe · 13/04/2011 19:05

cabbageroses - I agree that it has to be a work of fiction. If I had that kind of clothing budget, I would be buying gorgeous cashmere from N Peal, not 6 cardis from Johnnie Boden!

LawrieMarlow · 13/04/2011 19:09

I would. But not Boden prices. DD does from H and M (5 dresses for £14.95 at the weekend :))

FellatioNels0n · 13/04/2011 20:25

I definitely would. I have a favourite dress that I can wear anywhere for just about any occasion (except black tie obviously) and always look just right - if they did it in six different colours/patterns I'd buy them all!

Meggles76 · 13/04/2011 20:49

I have 2 FC jersey dresses that are the same design but different colours and patterns. I keep one for work and the other for play.

fluffles · 13/04/2011 21:21

i've got two zara knitted scoop neck dresses - one in black and one in brown. the black one looks smarter and the brown more casual. i got the black first and liked it but it was a bit 'dressy' or 'workwear' for weekends so i got the brown one too. i LOVE them both.

Whatevs · 13/04/2011 21:22

I often do it.

vanillamum · 13/04/2011 21:26

I confess if something suits me I will buy three of the same thing, same colour and style. I want to look decent but can't be bothered to think in the morning, very boring but works for me.

JaneS · 13/04/2011 21:42

I have two dresses the same and I love them, hoping to pick another one up in the same style again this season (they do them every season with different colours). I always get stopped and complimented on them - they're absolutely perfectly for curvy girls.

What I don't get is people who buy boring practical stuff the same twice - a women I know buys exactly the same very bog-standard T-shirts in white, black and navy, and wears them in rotation with the same suits every week. She's not poor, she wears designer heels and carries a nice bag ... Confused

desperatelyseekingsnoozes · 13/04/2011 21:43

I also often do it

pinkytheshrinky · 13/04/2011 21:46

I do this all the time with dresses and cardis and in fact is just bought the same pair of shoes in two colourways

rusmum · 13/04/2011 21:56

i do but not always dresses, recently bought 3 pairs pf same style fly flots (diff cols) and have done it with jumpers etc too

littlegreen · 13/04/2011 22:03

LittleRedDragon and mrsravelstein - would you mind sharing with us links to these dresses that are so becoming? They must be great!

roundtable · 13/04/2011 22:04

I've just done this Blush! Asos is having a sale and a maternity dress with a really flattering neckline was on sale so I bought it in all three colours. I might send the yellow one back though, not sure yet.

Wouldn't do it for anything that costs that much though OP!

happilyeverafter · 13/04/2011 22:13

I have a work dress in several colours (ASOS) and a cardigan in two colours (FC). All worn to death. I did buy boden plain tops in the sale in a few colourways. They will be going on ebay very soon as I have others similar but nicer so they don't get worn.

JaneS · 13/04/2011 22:14

littlegreen - I'm not finding any links online that remotely do the dress justice - it's on some slightly kooky-looking sites but in RL it is just lovely. Here's a link, anyway, to one of the colours (it's a much nicer colour in RL too - a good raspberry shade).

It'll sound daft but something I absolutely love about these dresses is that they're cut properly so that the straps actually fit over, not beside, your bra straps, and there's a little self-coloured ribbon tie that you can tie to your bra strap if you want to anchor it. I'm someone who can't go braless and I find loads of dresses have straps in completely the wrong place to hide mine.

Mahraih · 13/04/2011 22:59

I never used to, but while pregnant I got into the habit (rare to find something that looked decent; took advantage).

Now, yes. I definitely would - gone are the days when I bought disposable, frivolous fashion to wear on a day to day basis.
