....what casual trousers should we be wearing this summer?

OP posts:
SOAPER · 20/02/2012 09:32

Hi
I could not believe how judgemental this all looked to me, with a hint of snobbery, did not think mumsnet would be like this. The discussion on white linen trousers and the lady who could not believe that you would wear them in waitrose of all places. If you feel comfortable in what you wear, who cares what anybody else thinks.

SOAPER · 20/02/2012 09:41

Hi
I could not believe how judgemental this discussion is, bordering on snobbery when the lady could not believe somone would wear this in waitrose of all places. Wear what you want that is what I .say

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/02/2012 11:02

MN didn't rave about linen trousers last year - they're always hated on here. Particularly the very thin ones in white that are see-through.

But you know - where what you want - tis just clothes.

I like skinny jeans in white preferably but when its really really hot - then dresses are easier.

breaktime · 20/02/2012 11:09

I think the point was that anything that shows your thong is just plain wrong (Waitrose or Morrisons!). Ditto the see through leggings look TBH - I don't need to know what your underwear looks like!

OlympicEater · 20/02/2012 11:11

Of all the nest of viper threads on here, what a bizarre one to zombie Hmm

MuslinSuit · 20/02/2012 11:16

Cropped trousers - tapered if it suits you (doesn't suit me as a pearshape, my bum doesn't need any more definition ta)

I used to have some gorgeous cropped chinos from Gap - they were never very fashionable but I loved them. They'd be the height of fashion now.

MuslinSuit · 20/02/2012 11:18

SOAPER do you have a fetching pear pair of linen trousers? And shop in Waitrose?

noddyholder · 20/02/2012 11:25

White skinnies here too. And normal jeans just above ankle. dresses and shorts too. hate cropped wide trousers they flatter no one. Like palazzos on 6ft models but not on me!

ifancyashandy · 20/02/2012 12:28

Skinnies (coloured)

I will also be wearing tapered trousers. In ice cream colours. Sometimes turned up on the ankle. From Zara!

Not a fan of linen trousers / tunic look. I am over 40, 5'8 and size 10 & wide linen trousers look bonkers on me.

noddyholder · 20/02/2012 12:56

Yes coloured trousers are lovely. i have 2 pairs from zara from last year one stone and one rose pink will dig those out!

I love white linen trousers for the summer but only with a bum covering top. I do, however, find that by the end of summer I struggle to get back into my winter jeans as my waist seems to have 'relaxed' due to the comfort of said linen. In fact it is looking unlikely that even the linen will fit this summer without a spot of activity more aerobic than mning.

dingdong3 · 20/02/2012 16:00

I wear linen trousers loads over the Summer but as per earlier posts, only ever with bum covering tunics or long jersey vests. Like the dreaded boot cuts, it's all about how you wear them...nothing's ever a no-no if you wear it well and it suits your body shape.

Shimbo · 20/02/2012 16:18

There is nothing more cool and comfy than drawstring linen trousers for me in the summer. And I have also bought a few cropped pairs of the same. I did have a white pair which I loved and wore to bits but now tend to get black or neutral colours. I wear them usually with t-shirts, vests and longish tops. I just can't imagine any other chino type trousers and certainly not jeans being as comfortable.

noddyholder · 20/02/2012 16:35

drawstring ok of you have no hips/ tummy otherwise so unflattering

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/02/2012 17:55

I would look a stone heavier in drawstring trousers. And being small I don't do tunics really or overly long tops.

But that's why when its really hot (which lets face it isn't that often in the UK) - I wear dresses or skirts.

Twigwidge · 20/02/2012 18:13

I don't understand the MN hatred of white linen trousers, surely on a S & B thread advice can be given on the correct underwear to wear with them?????? Confused

e.g Never white knickers under white tousers! No coloured underwear or thongs etc etc. A good nude pant always suffices for me!!!! Blush

happybubblebrain · 20/02/2012 18:23

I have lots of tops that will only go with white linen trousers, so I'm going to keep wearing mine.

They are comfy and look fine.

Fashion is not my master.

SOAPER · 20/02/2012 18:37

linen trousers are comfy, I always take them on holiday.I have not got a perfect figure, but I always wear a longer top to hide the bad bits. I buy mine at wallis they are really nice.

noddyholder · 20/02/2012 18:51

Comfy trousers lead to affairs.....you have been warned

startail · 20/02/2012 18:54

All trousers of all shapes, cuts, sizes, colours and fabrics are fine by me. Except harem pants with the crouch half way to your knees and anything that reveals underwear or flesh that should be covered by underwear.

If your trousers are so tight or thin we can see every detail or stop exactly half way up your hips, please invest in a longer top or a nice denim mini skirt or some shorts!

startail · 20/02/2012 18:56

No, comfy trousers lead to bed. DH is a horror at trying to remove my tracksuit bottomsBlush

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/02/2012 18:57

Grin at Noddy.

What's this wanting to be comfy thing all about Wink

ifancyashandy · 20/02/2012 19:12

I'm with MrsCampbell on this - comfort its way down my list of priorities when it comes to clothes!

And everyone looks I look a fright in a drawstring or elasticated waist!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 20/02/2012 19:18

Linen trousers with an elasticated waist a drawstring might be comfy, they might be cool in hot weather and you can wear whatever you like, it's just that linen trousers are not very flattering.
