Any brilliant new foundations to recommend?

I currently wear Lancome Teint Miracle, but it's just not doing it for me any more. I am 40+ and need something natural looking which covers my twenties-excess, wine-induced redness without making me look too obviously foundationed in the bright spring/summer light.

Any recommendations, please?

Eclat Opulent by By Terry. Costs a lot but the texture is unmatched.

Celery · 31/03/2011 17:20

The new Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is very nice. I also really like ( and possibly prefer, for my oily skin ) Bourjois Healthy Mix, for only a tenner.

I tried the Lancome Teint Miracle, and it didn't melt into my skin. It looked pretty cakey on me.

I'm also a big fan of Diorskin Nude, for a natural looking foundation.

charlieandlola · 31/03/2011 17:23

GOML - that foundation is ninety seven quid! 97 !

Bearcat · 31/03/2011 17:29

Clinique have got a new redness solutions range.
I use the daily relief cream which is like a moisturiser and their foundation.
My niece (who works for Clinique) did a makeover for me in Debenhams when we went up north to visit family, and I was so thrilled with it ended up buying both the above, a brush the same as the one she used to trowel put the make up on and some blusher powder. Now I never have bought blusher before as I can be a bit rosy but it looked lovely when she had finished.
I am thrilled to bits with it and it lasts all day and I feel like it really covers the rosiness.
I would definately recommend it.

Love Diorskin Nude (sheer, for summer and short wear) and Diorskin Forever (looks good for 12+ hours and has better coverage). Melts into my skin, doesn't enlarge my pores and isn't as drying as some other foundations.

Ask for a sample before committing to buy.

hatcam · 31/03/2011 20:22

Bobbi brown luminous? Lovely texture, glowy, a little moisturising. I love Chanel vitalumiere, also have the aqua lumiere which is great but to me it seems a heavier finish than the vitalumiere. BB lasting finish is the business if you want something that doesn't move but it has quite a flat finish if you see what I mean.

I find if I drink some more wine I don't notice my redness/lines....Grin

MissFoodie · 31/03/2011 20:23

im testing organic pharmacy (organic glam) and its lovely, looks v natural, mineral coverage, but v light, feels like you're not wearing anything, plus, no chemical nasties!

zalana · 31/03/2011 21:38

By Terry foundation is amazing but a bit extravagant, chanel vitalumiere good also, currently using Diorskin Nude which I like a lot.
So much depends though on getting a really good match with your skin tone for best results.

Havingkittens · 31/03/2011 22:13

Teint Miracle is very light coverage so if you're finding that heavy I'd say go for Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser over the whole face, and then just use a bit of extra cover where you need it.

Gertiegoolash · 31/03/2011 22:19

I love Clinique Even Better foundation, covers well and evens out skin tone.

spiderslegs · 31/03/2011 23:20

With GOML By Terry (though appallingly named) is bloody fantastic - available from SpaceNK - really - try it.

I like Guerlain's foundations - I've used Parure - found it natural and dewy/fresh (I'm early 40's with normal/sensitive skin), and they have something new called Lingerie de Peau.
When I get some time to myself, I will be trying Lingerie de Peau and the Clarins Skin Illusion.
Great thread!

Celery · 01/04/2011 07:21

See, I didn't get on with Clarins skin illusion, Lancome teint miracle or the pricey by Terry one even. Foundation is such a subjective thing.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2011 09:45

The By Terry one (although ridiculously overpriced) is excellent - the good thing about it is that it comes in one colour only, which matches all skin tones. I have a nightmare finding foundation to match as I am very pale with pinky skin, most foundations are too yellow. The texture of it is brilliant - makes my skin look amazing. It is the best part of a hundred quid but a pot lasts me 6 months, and I wear it every day.

I nearly cried when dd used it when her friends came round for a sleepover, however. She is banned from my make up now.

I have tried Teint Miracle as well, it is ok, but nothing special tbh. I think the Lancome Photogenic Luminescence is better. Chanel, Dior, Chantecaille, Laura Mercier, Clarins all too damn yellow on me. Estee Lauder OK on colour (ish) but texture disgusting. So will be sticking with the By Terry stuff. I think if you manage to get a perfect foundation the rest of your make up can be cheap high street crap.

Themumsnot · 01/04/2011 10:17

I also like the Clinique Redness Solutions, but I also use Revlon's Age Defying Foundation, which is lighter (cheaper!) and gives good coverage of my redness. After a tip on here though, I've started using No 7 Pore Minimising Serum underneath, which makes a really big difference to the smoothness of my skin.

Iloveshoes001 · 01/04/2011 10:23

I've tried most foundations out there over the years. In liquids I don't think you can beat good old L'Oreal. However, having discovered Bare Escentials I will NEVER use anything else again. They are absolutely amazing. I bought a starter pack in Sephora a couple fo years ago. When I first put it on I thought I'd been done. Couldn't see anything at all, and then I went into natural light and it was amazing. It looked like I wasn't wearing anything (even where I covered the odd blemish), just looked naturally better... AND it lasted all day. I am now addicted and have 3 different foundations which I can use alone or mix to cover my skintone all year round, 3 or 4 blushes and some fantastic lipglosses. plus the miracle working mineral veil... LOVE IT. You can find out more about it here www.bareescentuals.co.uk/ (i now buy all mine in BT2 in Dublin whenever I'm there)

ullainga · 01/04/2011 10:30

I have Dior Nude, which is nice, but loved the sample of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. Will buy this next.

Tried Bare escentuals and did not like them one bit, looked horrible on my skin so actually threw the stuff out (small starter kit only, luckily). I quite like LilyLolo mineral makeup though that soneone recommended here.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 01/04/2011 11:10

I have to say that DP noticing OldBag's nice skin is sending me off to Clarin's to try Skin Illusion first!

Fantastic suggestions, thank you. I agree with GetOrf that the perfect foundation is worth paying for, although I am hoping that I will find it under the £40 mark Smile

bourjois 10 hours sleep is lovely

very light and natural

ifancyashandy · 02/04/2011 11:57

I work with lots of make up artists. Most of them use Georgio Armani. I am now a convert. Quite pricey (£50ish) but don't need much so last for ages. Buy a foundation brush too.

Or Laura Mercier for tinted moisturiser.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 02/04/2011 13:25

OldBag, I got some samples of the Clarins Skin Illusion yesterday and I am afraid that I don't like it. The coverage is really good but it looks a bit chalky on me. Not one bit dewy!

Ifancyshandy, I have read so many brillaint things about the Armani one, but I am not sure that I can get it this far North. I tried before and failed.
