What would you buy for £1000 in Tiffany?

DH has some cash he would like to spend on a piece of jewellery for me in the USA (lucky me!) I don't really know where to send him but Tiffany & Co are american so I thought it might be nice to have something from there.

I work in a hospital so would be for informal wear and prob not a ring as I get dermatitis on my hands because of all the handwashing.

Any other recommendations of where I might look would also be fab as I really don't know what I want and he is better with firm direction!

Thanks ladies

If the point is he has to spend dollars, then I would probably want an Ipad2 and a handbag, but if you wanted something iconic from Tiffany, then go for it.
I have a Tiffany diamond, and I really pleased with it. Couldn't care less that I could have had a bigger one hand made etc.

newpup · 29/03/2011 10:13

I am lucky enough to have a few pieces from Tiffany & Co. and love them all. I have some of the Elsa Peretti open heart collection and they are lovely eveyday pieces. I also have a couple of lovely silver pendants again beautiful everyday wear.

I also have a couple of stunning necklaces around the price margin you mention. They are glorious and funnily enough both pieces DH bought in the states! I love Tiffany and the thrill of opening that little blue box! You will not regret owning a piece of Tiffany jewellery I promise.

Be spolit - enjoy! Smile

AbsDuCroissant · 29/03/2011 11:07

these shoes (I can't find them on UK sites)

It is very sweet of him - you're very lucky to have such a lovely DH

BiscuitNibbler · 29/03/2011 12:01

I bought some gorgeous diamond earrings for about £900 in Kay jewellers in the US - same company as Ernest Jones. I did very well with the exchange rate at the time and the same ones in the UK were twice the price.

How lovely! Wish I had £1000 to splurge on jewellery!

MmeLindt · 29/03/2011 12:19

I wouldn't buy from Tiffany either, tbh. I had a look at the one in Zurich and was not really impressed by their jewellery.

I googled Tampa Jewelers and found this website

love this ring

dottyaboutstripes · 29/03/2011 12:44

Well last time my DH was over there, he brought me back a Kitchen Aid attachment but I don't think it would look very good hanging from my body :o

I have never been to the USA so I don't really have a clue - my DH buys me presents at the airport as it tends to be a bit cheaper, but I'm talking Clinique, Chanel make up/skincare. Would there be decent shopping at the airport where he could choose you something nice?

ThisIsYourSong · 29/03/2011 12:50

I'd get a Coach handbag. They are nowhere near £1000 though so you could get some jewellery too Smile

MmeLindt · 29/03/2011 12:55

Thisisyoursong
DH was in the States last year and one of his colleagues bought four Coach handbags for his wife.

DH brought me an iPad. Rather have that than jewellery or a bag, tbh.

BiscuitNibbler · 29/03/2011 13:05

Oh yes! Coach handbags! I once left a lot of stuff behind in the US so I could fit the two Coach handbags I bought in my suitcase!

ThisIsYourSong · 29/03/2011 13:30

Yeah, I could never have four handbags, I would keep leaving stuff in the other one when I swapped them over. How much are iPads? Could you get one of those and a Coach handbag??

hmm, I seem to have forgotten this is not for me Grin

Take your money to an independent. My favourite is www.sarahmayjewellery.com/. Don't know where you are but Sarah is such a lovely, lovely person and has a small shop in Richmond. I've bought a couple of hand-made pieces from her and have been delighted.

MmeLindt · 29/03/2011 13:37

Ha. Thisisyoursong will be giving SnailWhaleTail's DH a shopping list.

I have a bag in a bag for transferring stuff from one bag to another. It is very handy, with wee pockets and everything

Use the money to fly to America, have a wonderful night with DH and go to Tiffany's after. With the £50 you will have left over you could recreate the scene from Breakfast at Tiffanys Dress the part. How romantic!

tulpe · 29/03/2011 13:45

Avoiding what I would call "tourist tat" from Tiffany (ie anything with TIFFANY stamped in big letters on it or Property of Tiffany & Co" etc), I think they have a nice selection of jewellery and I have a few pieces from there including my engagement ring.

Jewellery is such a personal thing, OP and we all (clearly!) have very differing opinions :) Why not just take a good look at the website and pick something which YOU love (and post a link on here if you wish Wink ). You are very lucky to have such a kind hearted DH :)

OhCobblers · 29/03/2011 14:09

actuallly yes tulpe is right - everyone will have an opinion - including me!!
i do love their silver. its just when it comes to a precious stone that i know you can do so much better elsewhere.

a friend of mine had always loved a particular tiffany ring design. her DH to be took the picture to his mate who produced the same ring with a better stone for a lot less than the Tiffany price.

accessorizequeen · 29/03/2011 14:28

American Arts & Crafts movement made some beautiful stuff (I love the Mission furniture), what about something like that? website featuring some arts & craft items www.theratstuff.com/ac/ac.html Your dp has suggested something and you've had various suggestions here, but what do you want??

Zellys · 29/03/2011 14:38

I think it's lovely of your DH to want to do this. And you'd have a piece (or a handbag! Or whatever!), which would remind you of how excited he was to see you again, how much he missed you and the DCs and how much he appreciated your taking charge at home while he was away. At the end of the day, jewellery is always more about what it means, I think.

Tiffany's have some nice pieces - my engagement ring was based on a tiffany design (I stole the idea). I'm loving some of the pendants on the US site - www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=26669405&mcat=148210&cid=287465&search_params=s+5-p+7-c+287465-r+101323351-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+-k+ might be a bit much. The US site has filtering by price.

Needabitofsunshine · 29/03/2011 14:44

Don't know the area but the big dept stores will all have jewellery sections - Niemen Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom would be good. Can second the Coach handbags, last really well.

LessNarkyPuffin · 29/03/2011 14:51

Big Shopping Centre in Tampa

MikeRotch · 29/03/2011 14:58

tiFFANY is a bit tacky imo

LessNarkyPuffin · 29/03/2011 15:03

Neiman Marcus site- there's one at that shopping centre. I linked to handbags Grin but there's a lot of jewellery too.

LessNarkyPuffin · 29/03/2011 15:52

If you like Tiffany - which does have some lovely stuff- I'd go for this as a wear it everyday necklace. One of my SILs has this

MikeRotch · 29/03/2011 15:53
