Gosh. Wore these in the 70s.

They stretch like mad.

KurriKurri · 29/03/2011 19:55

I have two pairs from the first time around - one navy one tan, they are still going strong and are very comfortable.
Have only once regretted wearing them when a wasp crawled in the gap at the side, - I pulled my sandal off and shrieked in the middle of the high street. (stoical type Grin)

KurriKurri · 29/03/2011 19:56

Oh Alistair I have just spotted you - you are my style icon Grin

I love them. Google saltwater sandals, they are cool too

womma · 30/03/2011 08:48

They're lovely. I'm sure you will carry them off with great aplomb.

I've got very fond memories of my pair from 1979...god, I loved them

wendihouse22 · 30/03/2011 09:59

Oh God, they look so comfy. My trotters crave comfort, they being 49 yrs old and for many years, tortured into point (ballet) shoes. And yet....

I can't get the image of my English teacher, Mrs Walker, having same footwear in various hues.....

Suddenly feel middle-aged. My husband would not approve.

Love 'em though!

messylittlemonkey · 01/04/2011 13:16

Sorry, only just come back to this thread.

Well, they arrived yesterday and are VERY comfortable.

DP asked if my mum gave them to me and DD1 (5) said "are they grandma's shoes"

I must admit I'm now pnicking slightly that I won't be able to make them look as cool as I'd like.

Tried them on with skinny jeans yesterday and that looked fine, will have a proper trying on with different outfits session at th weekend.

I do like the Saltwater ones in the Toast catalogue too!

OMG I had some of them when I was about 10!!! Shock

All the teasing and insults are flooding back............. Grin

OrangeBernard · 01/04/2011 16:17

You can wear salt waters in the sea too

FellatioNelson · 01/04/2011 16:20

Shock You would have to be UBER cool and trendy and very young and slim and arty/ironic to have a cat in hell's chance of wearing those without looking like a total dork.

KurriKurri · 01/04/2011 17:20

Is there a total dork emoticon I can use???? Grin

OrangeBernard · 01/04/2011 17:24

I'm thinking of ordering the pink ones on the op. Can you have baby pink shoes when you're 35?

FellatioNelson · 01/04/2011 18:55

Shock Everything about this thread is wrong.

Spidermama · 01/04/2011 18:57

When I was growing up in Scotland we described such horrors - devoid as they are of any hint of fashion - like these sandals, 'spoony.'

It meant irredemably uncool.

I'm not sure you can do retro if you remember it first time round. Isn't that sort of teh point - young hipsters discovering stuff that teh oldies wore.

They do straddle a fine line and agree that you would need to be young, slim and gorgeous to carry those off with aplomb. But their comfort factor is tempting - but that;s a sign I'm too old to wear them, I think

SarahSurrey1971 · 02/04/2011 13:59

I totally love them - and have bought a pair :)

I also totally love them for my oldest sons who are 11 and 13 - can you get away with these for boys?

cabbageroses · 02/04/2011 14:03

OMG- I used to wear those when I was 16. They were called "Playdeck".

Used to work in a clarks shop at weekends and we would all wear them.

muminthemiddle · 02/04/2011 14:11

I remember having them in brown when I was a child and calling them Jesus sandals. When I was pregnant with dd1 my feet swelled up so much that the only shoes I could wear were similar to these called springers. I bought 2 pairs one blue and one pink (so comfy).
My boss pissed himself laughing though and said what the hell are you wearing on your feet.

nicolamumof3 · 02/04/2011 20:39

Im 35 i have flat fat feet im pregnant im getting them in white next week!! its not about s&b for me, its comfort! Cannot wait finally some plain comfy (yes comfy!) sandals that will see me through the summer running after three ds's and a huge bump!
