Please help me have nice skin for my wedding day!

Littlepurpleprincess · 26/03/2011 08:53

I am getting married in 9 weeks time Shock. I would really like to have nice skin on the day but I know it's going to be horrible Sad. I get breakouts at certain times of the month and the wedding day is on the worst day I could have chosen for my skin. lol.

I eat fairly healthy and take care of my skin. I wear make up but always wash it off at the end of the day.

I am young with teenage skin, its quite sensitive.

Does anybody have any ideas?

drink loads of water. i had a summer job which was terribly boring so i drank lots of water so i could nip to the loo for a break. my skin had never looked better!

mothermirth · 26/03/2011 16:06

Not sure if you would have time for this, but how about seeing your GP and asking if they can give you anything to delay your next period in order to ensure that your wedding day is on the 'best' day for your skin?

Just a thought.

Good luck for your big day Smile

MrsCampbellBlack · 26/03/2011 16:08

Depending on how bad the break-outs are - could be worth seeing GP to discuss. Years ago I used to take a pill that was very good for skin.

Also worth seeing a dermatologist perhaps?

I'd be loath to try anything too radical so close to your wedding day.

LindaLaPlumeDeMaTente · 26/03/2011 16:09

I had regular facials before my wedding and my skin has never looked better. I also put a light fake facial tan on the day before

sweetheart · 26/03/2011 16:46

I found 3 things that have improved my skin no end:-

sanctuary hot cloth cleanser - I think any cleansers which are washed off with a muslin will help as it's a light exfoliant.

I also use St Ives scrub to give my skin a real glow

lastly I have recently started taking Perfectil tablets which have been highly recommended on here and so far I'm seeing quite good results. They are 3 for 2 in boots at the moment too.

CountBapula · 26/03/2011 18:38

Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel. Unbelievable stuff.

brookeslay · 26/03/2011 18:47

I would not use St. Ives on your skin as it is sensitive the best scrub is elemis rose one as it is super gentle.

www.drhauschka.co.uk/products/face-care/daily-face-care-kit

This kit is for sensitive skin. Get some freederm for the breakouts as it has an inflammatory.

Take Vitamins in food state.

Boil your water before you wash your face. I did this before a big party to get my skin looking good.

Try a good probiotic and aloe vera juice ones in brown bottles.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/03/2011 18:51

My skins like this. I had these ultrasound facials at indigo spa in Solihull, no idea what there called but if you went on their Internet site you'd see what I mean.

And Heaven skin polisher, I find scrubs make me worse. Def fake tan on the day it hides any red looking areas that haven't healed yet.

Don't uses SPF products on the day, it'll reflect back on the photos and make your face look paler than your neck.

www.heavenbydeborahmitchell.co.uk/Products.aspx?Page=6 the Chamomile Spray is lovely for sensitive skin. I had a facial at Heaven and my skin felt bouncy and silk like. Camilla Charles wife Danni minogue and loads of other celebs love it.

You could ask for some samples of these products if you rang the companies .

vnmum · 26/03/2011 19:02

sheercover mineral makeup. fab, really does give you an airbrushed effect, especially in photos

Littlepurpleprincess · 27/03/2011 16:02

wow, thankyou for so many replies!

I have thought about going to the GP but don't want to change contraception as I'm stopping taking it after the wedding Wink so didn't see much point. I can't stop taking it before the wedding because I might end up on my period on the actual day which would be crap.

The SPF idea is a very good point.

Liz Earle is great. I can still suffer breakouts at 42 but her range has saved my skin. It's all natural too so nothing to irritate skin. I use the full range which is around £49 I think?

mylovelymonster · 27/03/2011 16:20

I think you should take all the good stuff here and spoil yourself rotten for the next 9 weeks - pamper pamper pamper
& maybe cut right down on alcohol, caffeine, & processed food; lots of fresh air/walks/exercise; lots of extra sleep

Do you know what make-up you're going to use on the day? Need to get round the department stores and try out colours & formulations!! Even if you do have a breakout, you can still look & feel gorgeous

Envy at your youth & impending joy. Have a wonderful wedding Grin

Littlepurpleprincess · 27/03/2011 21:10

lol @ youth and impending joy Grin

I will definately try to cut down on the alcohol and caffine. Caffine = not to bad but the alcohol, a little bit trickier. I work with children after all, I NEED my wine when they've gone!

Processed food is icky and I cook from scratch most nights [smug emoticon]. I could probably cut down on the carbs though. And the cake.

I really like Clinique make-up so I'm going to go down to debenams and treat myself to some.

mylovelymonster · 27/03/2011 23:18

Go to the Guerlain counter and have the lady make you look like a supermodel. They do a gorgeous foundation that is dewy, and beautiful lippies. Treat yourself (cut out a couple of bottles of wine!) and tell the lady it's for your wedding & she's bound to throw in a few bits.

(I have tried Chanel, Prescriptives, etc & Guerlain was miles better. Never tried Clinique....)

Iwantscallops · 28/03/2011 00:58

My skin is tempramental and I had a make up artist do mine on my wedding day. She told me if I had any spots/blemishes she could cover them. As it happened my skin was quite clear but she made my complexion flawless. Having my make up done was also one less thing to worry about.

Have a great day!

Littlepurpleprincess · 28/03/2011 09:31

I'm going to have to do it myself. I've had my make up done before (as a bridesmaid) and was really disappointed. Also, I'm getting married on a sunday, on the bank holiday weekend so thought it might be a challenge to find someone who would do it.

2 glasses of water down today already, taken my vitamins. Grin

mylovelymonster · 28/03/2011 10:41

I, on the other hand, have had two strong cups of coffee, about 5 hours sleep, and look 15 years older. You have motherhood to look forward to!!!!!!

Not even brushed my hair yet! Grin

Littlepurpleprincess · 28/03/2011 18:29

ahhh I'm already doing motherhood. DS1 is four and a half Blush

Mint tea, three cups a day.
Or a mint tea and nettle mix, available everywhere.
Brilliant or clearing skin up.

Littlepurpleprincess · 28/03/2011 18:43

I like mint tea. I drink it sometimes I just need to make an effort to drink it more often than PG tips Grin. I didn't know it was good for skin, thankyou Smile

ForShizzle · 28/03/2011 18:44

I've got really sensitive skin, prone to patches of eczema, a really oily t-zone and break out around my period. My diet is not great though (lots of caffeine, booze and sweets, I really need to sort that out).

I've been using No7 Beautifully clear serum and have had really good results with it, you do have to wait about a week to notice the effects but so far I am really pleased.

Good luck on the big day!

ForShizzle · 28/03/2011 18:59

Also, if you do end up with a spot on the day (which won't happen!) get some distilled witch hazel from boots. Soak some tissue or a cotton pad in the witch hazel and hold it over the spot for at least 10 mins (the longer the better) to bring the swelling right down. Witch hazel is brilliant at reducing localised swelling.
