Help! What to wear on a night out!

JemimaMop · 25/03/2011 18:36

I have to admit that I don't go out very often on a Saturday night, except for meals etc with DH and friends. I am going out tomorrow night though with some old school friends and it has just occurred to me that I don't know what to wear!

We are going around the pubs (in a very small town) and will probably end up in the cheesy dive nightclub. My friends are skinnier than me and haven't got children, so will be wearing short dresses. I am contemplating wearing a maxi dress with wedges and a denim jacket. Do you think that would look fashionable or too mumsy?

I don't have time to go shopping tomorrow. I don't want to end up in the same old black trousers and nice top uniform.

Please help!

Depends on the design of the maxi - personally I think maxi dresses look better when it is Summer. Could you not pop to the shops first thing and look for leggings and long tunic combo????

JemimaMop · 25/03/2011 18:57

The choice of shops here is dire: Dorothy Perkins, New Look, Matalan, Peacocks, Monsoon. I don't have time to go into town anyway as the DC are competing in an Eisteddfod.

It was 21 degrees here yesterday, it nearly is summer Grin

Monsoon is perfect for tunics Smile If it is hot then go for the maxi/denim jacket. Or when in doubt black trousers and nice top is the way to go Smile

JemimaMop · 25/03/2011 19:10

I still can't physically get into town to go to Monsoon!

No no no to maxi! Its march and thats not summer!(and I love them!) Do you not have a dress/tunic you could wear with leggings?. Can your dh not do the dcs activities so you can go shopping?.

JemimaMop · 25/03/2011 20:34

DH is in work. Besides I want to watch the DC competing in the Eisteddfod as they are through to the county competition and if they go through tomorrow will be competing at national level!

What do you wear when you go out with dh? Is that the trousers and uniform top?

Do you have any knee length skirts?

Have you got heels that you could wear, and be comfortable dancing in the cheesy nightclub?

Can you get out just before you meet your friends, and do you have any friends the same size as you who do go out?

I hope that you have a nice time. And good luck to the dc.

Won't be back from the Eisteddfod before the shops shut.

Tend to wear dresses/skirts with cardis or a denim jacket when we go out. But that looks more mumsy than the maxi dress. We tend to go out to quiet pubs/restaurants rather than cheesy nightclubs.

In fact I am starting to think that a night out at a cheesy nightclub just isn't very me, which is why I don't have suitable clothes. I would rather go out for a quiet meal with them so that we could actually chat and catch up :(

I would wear some jeans, heels, a nice top and some nice jewellery. Hope you have a fab night!

MrsLevinson · 25/03/2011 20:47

X post everlong!

JemimaMop · 25/03/2011 20:49

I don't know about jeans, I don't have any very "smart" jeans and they are all wearing (very short) dresses so I will look very dressed down in them.

We are all in our early to mid thirties.

I think I am going to end up in black trousers and a black top. Which depresses me immensely as it doesn't really feel like me IYSWIM. Serve me right for not working out in advance what I am going to wear, but it has been an immensely hectic fortnight both with the DC and at work and I just haven't had time to think about it.

I can't get to the shops to buy a new top. I don't have any coloured "going" out shoes, only flat/casual/sandals.

Gah maybe I'm just too old and should stay home and watch Casualty with a mug of Horlicks!

MrsMc82 · 25/03/2011 21:51

Just had to google "Eisteddfod" :o

woopsidaisy · 25/03/2011 22:01

MrsMc82 I am right behind you....
Ah! http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/eisteddfod

FauxFox · 26/03/2011 07:59

Do you have a 24hr supermarket in your area that does clothes? Can you nip into one some time today there are some nice things if you look...
Tesco
navy dress
peacock print
paisley
Asda
print dress
blouse

ballstoit · 26/03/2011 08:16

Since I have become single again I have started to venture into late nights out a little more. I dont feel comfortable with the aging tart look so I generally wear;

Jeans, Heels and a Sparkly/ Pretty top (all of these could be bought at supermarket)
Shortish Dress with Leggings and Boots

I feel ok even if my friends are a little more daring. Would rather look a bit underdressed than desperate [not enough sleep makes me bitchy emoticon].

JemimaMop · 26/03/2011 09:21

The only supermarkets near here are Morrisons and Co-op. Tesco is an hour away and doesn't sell clothes, the nearest one that does is 1.5 hrs away. Asda is 1.5hrs away too.

I think I'm going to wear a wrap dress and knee high boots. Might still be a bit mumsy in comparison, but feels more me than black trousers and a black top.

Anyway, time to get ready for the Eisteddfod! It is this Eisteddfod BTW. DS1 sings in the choir and is in the recitation party, they won the area Eisteddfod in both last week and are so through to the county Eisteddfod today. If they win today we will be off to Swansea for the national Urdd Eisteddfod!
