Shoes to wear with summer skirts

Following on from the shoes to wear in Spring with jeans thread, I want to sort out the more pressing problem of everyday summer shoes to wear with skirts.

We are owed an actual summer, after three years of rain, and I have three years' backlog of lovely summer cotton skirts/dresses which I have bought and not worn (including a fabulous one I bought last week from Help The Aged for 4 quid ).

I'm not really young enough or tall enough to get away with my beloved Converses with skirts, I can't wear flip flops, and dead flat gladiator sandals or ballet pumps make my feet hurt.
I need shoes that I can wear for hours/miles at a time, school-running, across Hyde Park or round the Science Museum. All the comfy ones I possess are hideous or too formal.

What are you lot going to wear?

I've got some lovely tan wedges, which look nice with bare legs and a skirt - but they hurt my feet. :( But some sort of slightly wedged espadrille type thing might be nice, maybe?

Mmm, Camper's not a bad idea.
The very word Birkenstock brings me out in a rash, and do they not fall off your feet? How do you run in them?

You obviously haven't met my DS, and perhaps live a more relaxed lifestyle. Buses, tubes, school pickups and errant DCs on scooters are there to be run for.

I wear fly London slingback shoes. I never wear Birkenstocks and only wear flip flops on the beach or in the garden

I don't find flat shoes comfortable and my feet are too narrow to wear ballet flats anyway

hmmm, there's a thin line between quirky and hideous, and most of the ones on the Fly London site at the moment look like they're on the wrong side of the line to my eyes. But they do look unbelievably comfortable and appealing - I can tell that if I tried them on I'd be unable to resist buying.

Ahhh see I live in constant Summertime (am a Dubai resident) so birkies are pretty much de rigueur

Have you tired fitflops (they don't tone despite the advertising but are very comfortable)

I wear wedges if I need height but not in daytime.

I do think ballet flats are incredibly dull and v unflattering.

Oh and I have a very relaxed lifestyle

Oh I see, if you're in Dubai I can understand why you wouldn't ever break into a run, I wouldn't sprint for a bus if it was 38 degrees C either, no matter how late I was.

I can't stand the toe peg things on flip flops, and that includes Fit Flops.

Mine are neither quirky nor hideous IMHO. Very boring in fact . these ones and I have a similar pair of Clarks from years ago

Indeed royalblingthimg, I would guess they are entirely the opposite of what you woudld wear

I wear them with my retro summer frocks. I am not a blingy birkie kinda gal

Just to horrify you even more, I will start to wear some of my less summery summer dresses and skirts soon. With high heeled tan sandals (closed toe)and opaques and a cardi

I envisage you wafting around Dubai in your halston heritage off one shoulder mini dress, bejewelled stappy silver sandals , an arm full of chunky silver bangles and a cocktail in one hand and a collection of designer shopping bags in the other

Followed by a harassed philipino nananny in uniform and your pristine, beautifully behaved children

I'l be wearing my hasbeens from last year and these cheaper version.

Take a couple of days to break in wearing round the house but super comfy and can run etc in them.

Ooh, those look like a good option Mrs CB, and actually on-trend as well, which is an unexpected bonus. I shall get off to Next and Camper to do some trying on.

Wedgy sandals. Love 'em.

I had these last year and wore them to death. They were fabulously comfortable and went with everything. I loved them so much I am buying two pairs this year.

The one thing I would say is that the strap round the back of the heel stretched a bit and I think I will size down this year.

Freebutton, thanks for the link. I like espadrilles - so comfy to wear - but the updated look is so much better. Thanks for reminding me of Castaner, will give it some serious thought.
