I heard its really good for detoxing and gets rid of fluid retention...

Has anyone tried it? Also how often do you use it??

It's meant to be v. good for you. I did it twice a week for a couple of months for detoxing.

Just be careful not to get even a drop of the bath water in your mouth though - I made myself feel sooo sick a few times from doing that.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 21/03/2011 23:45

I've done it a few times after having osteopathy or a massage as I was finding I was getting spotty after treatments. The osteopath recommended it to me and voila no more spotty back after treatments :)

Apparently (ahem) it's also an excellent hangover cure. But I obviously have no personal experience of this being a responsible mother of two Hmm Grin

GentleOtter · 21/03/2011 23:50

I think epsom salts are the main ingredient in Radox. (the powdery one).

Poodlehorse · 22/03/2011 14:19

Am I right in thinking you shouldn't do if preggers though? Just a vague memory of my mum having a bath in ES to bring on labour is all.

lilaloves · 22/03/2011 14:35

Can you get it a the chemist?

BlooCowWonders · 22/03/2011 14:50

My brother used to use it to treat his goldfish....

Must have some good properties:)

Do you have to rinse it off afterwards? Or can you just wash as normal with shower gel/soap and then get out?

You can buy big tubs of it from equine supply shops or the chemist. Only a couple of pounds for 3 kilos.
I put a great big handful in my bath and wallow. Grin

pipplin · 22/03/2011 20:58

I used to use it I used to feel bit tired and wobbly afterwards. Must do something.
I think you are right poodlehorse, shouldn't use it in pregnancy.
I'll use it again after I've given birth actually should help to make me feel better and draw out all the horrid effects of the drugs I'll be having during the birth??

really happenedagain? In which case I'll go and buy a massive tub of it! I have a lovely pot belly and really diet and exercise is terribly boring when all you really have to do is lie in a bath of epsom salts Grin

BlooCowWonders · 24/03/2011 11:33

Maybe CC drinks her bathwater.....

drosophila · 24/03/2011 11:36

I am a huge fan. I have back problems and use it whenever I can. Have read a lot about it. The most interesting thing is that most people are defficient in Magnesium and bathing in it is the best way to get it into your system.

Try it.

Gingefringe · 24/03/2011 13:04

The equine supply shops comment worries me!

GentleOtter · 25/03/2011 09:08

Why, Gingerfringe? Confused

We buy large buckets of it for use around the farm and garden - it works out much cheaper than little tubs.
The equine supply place is within an agriculture store.

catinboots · 25/03/2011 09:30

Dettol is better

Havingkittens · 25/03/2011 12:50

Gingefringe why would that worry you? Confused

Horses are mammals, like us, with similar body functions to our own. Even though they are a difference species to us they also suffer from muscle aches and pains, arthritis, skin conditions, blood pressure issues all of which are conditions that benefit from the use of Epsom Salt.

I'm all up for swapping health & beauty tips with horses. I use their hoof ointment to strengthen my nails and they use Avon Skin So Soft spray to keep the midges off them Grin

pipkin35 · 25/03/2011 16:15

Boots have just started doing their own pot, really cheap. I use a whole pot per bath, once a month. Don't think you're supposed to put anything else in the water as it reduces their effectiveness. Really good for aching/sore muscles. But beware - it will make you feel all warm and lightheaded after, best to lie down and relax as opposed to doing anyhting afterwards! Need to soak int hem for least 25 mins I've read...makes skin super soft afterwards too. NOT the same as sea salts BTW.

drosophila · 25/03/2011 21:03

having kittens - love it - Hoof cream. YOu could start a trend!!
