DH swears by Epsom salts - buys it in 25kg bags online. He originally got it for muscle relaxation but as a side effect it completely cleared up his rather spotty back.

Use it in DCs baths too and it definitely keeps their skin softer. DS2 suffers from eczema and it helps with his skin, tho obviously don't mix it with any soap, bubble bath etc.

I'm a shower person myself so can't report on my own skin.

Yes, Magnesium Sulphate is just the thing for drawing out pustules and boils! And ingrown hairs and splinters too.

It's used as a treatment for chronic constipation in children too. I'm not sure why, but it obviously has many positive qualities.

I always use it in my bath. I haven't found a bulk supplier of it yet though, but I use about 250g per bath - it softens the water and is great for helping ease stiff muscles, including gut muscles which is one reason why it can help with constipation.

I don't use soap or gel or any other chemical in my bath - just the salts, a good soak and a rough body flannel - my skin is fantastic and never feels dry (I don't use any body lotions or moisturisers or anything either). DS the same - his skin is also lovely and always has been.

Epsom Salts are perfectly safe in pregnancy as long as you don't go overboad!

Been helping with my aching back and hips.

It is also lovely in a basin footbath. Add a soupspoonful of dry type mustard and a handful of epsom salts to fairly hot water then soak feet for a while. Good if you have been on your feet all day.

Hey guys, really sorry to resurrect an old post but my mum has been going on to me for years about how I should use epsom salts to help with persistent rashes I have been having due to my eczema .

Is it actually any good for rashes, my mum insists it is but I have been reading some articles on salts such as this one and it doesnt say anything about being good for rashes and I'm worried it may irritate my skin.

Help please!

I don't have eczema, but I do suffer with very itchy and flaky legs from time to time. I use dead sea salts. I have used epsom salts before, but I find the dead sea ones more effective.

ameliaesmith · 20/04/2016 15:55

Thank you, I might try that instead then!

BlueEyedWonder · 20/04/2016 19:57

I've been putting 500g in my bath after long runs (I'm marathon training). It really helps sore/tired/aching muscles!
I got it in Boots.

Please can someone link to equine salts? I use ES a lot for pain management but find it quite expensive
