got a bit of a streched saggy mummy tumy since having dd nearly 4 years ago.

only weight half a stone more though so even if i lost half a stone i reckon im stuck with it

im 33 and feel a bit young for a all in one, bt not sure im brave enough for a bikini

although ive wondered if a bit of sun of the skin might help the scaring etc?

I wear a bikini to get a tan - but would put a t shirt or dress on if I was 'walking around' the pool iykwim.

Or could you get an all in one for public and do some sun bathing in private in a bikini and see if the sun helps?

RamblingRosa · 15/03/2011 12:23

Just wear whatever you're happy in and sod what anyone else thinks. I always wear a bikini on holiday. But if you're happier in a one piece then there are lots of nice one pieces that won't make you look old before your time IYSWIM. I just think you should enjoy being on holiday and wear what you like :)

Lord knows you see enough fat old fellas strutting around in speedos on holiday...why do we tie ourselves in knots worrying about a tiny bit of saggy skin?

HappyAsIAm · 15/03/2011 13:01

Wear what you want carriedababi. Seriously. Since having DS (3 years ago), I ahve always work a tankini, which essentially looks like a one-piece. The only reason I buy a tankii is that my top half is smaller than my bottom half. I am only 5 lb heabier than before I had DS, but I have a saggy tum too, and I hsve always tried to cover it, or even worse, tuck it in a bit, so to speak.

But I took DS swimming last week, and there was another mum there with her DD, and she was about my age (35). She had a tiny string black bikini on, and her tummy was at least as saggy as mine and she had stetchmarks just like me too. And she didn't give a damn, and neither should she have.

I am mustering up the courage to wear a bikini this sumemr now - there are some nice ones in Boden. My tankini last year was from Monsoon, and it was really nice. And you can buy separate tyops and bottoms too.

carriedababi · 15/03/2011 13:03

Perhaps I will get one of each then

lol

i wear a tankini also, neither beast nor fowl. tankini's get alot of bad press but like happy i am different sizes top and bottom and it is alot easier to go for a wee in a 2 piece

LaWeasel · 15/03/2011 13:19

Sunlight is supposed to be the best thing for scars, so I perserve with bikini's...

But I usually wear boardshorts over the top half because I'm just not that comfortable being mostly naked anymore.

LaWeasel · 15/03/2011 13:19

I meant bottom half - obviously! Grin

CointreauVersial · 15/03/2011 13:22

I normally wear a bikini, in fact, getting my bikini tummy back was the main motivator for last year's diet and running programme!

I prefer shorts on the bottom half, though; teeny pants leave me feeling a bit, erm, underdressed.

CointreauVersial · 15/03/2011 13:23

Laweasel, I did think your outfit choice was....unusual Grin

miche8 · 15/03/2011 13:23

i take both usually after a few days i feel braver and wear the bikini, theres usually always someone bigger looking confident and i think why are am worrying.

ChippyMinTech · 15/03/2011 13:38

I'm pondering buying separates to mix and match - bikini top, tankini top, and bottoms from the same range. And a matching sundress for walking around. The problem with tankinis is the only bit of exposed flesh is the wobbly midriff bit Grin

planestrainsautomobiles · 15/03/2011 13:50

Always a bikini - haven't got the best stomach (after arrival of two little ones in the last few years) but I follow the brazilian rule in that the less you have on the better you look. I think its really true, I look much bigger in a swimsuit.

I think the key is to try on a ridiculous amount of bikinis (no rushing) until you find the most flattering shape / fit for your body.

berri · 15/03/2011 13:53

Agree with planes - I always think the bigger swimming costumes, and those with big shorts, always make the wearer look much bigger than they actually are.

Strange but true...

miche8 · 15/03/2011 13:58

yep i look bigger in the shorts style, can't wear the tie at the side pants either thats just asking for trouble.

ChippyMinTech · 15/03/2011 14:02

Planes has a point.

moogalicious · 15/03/2011 14:10

always a swimming costume here. I can't wear a tankini as my spare tyre squishes out the gap. Instead, I wear a low cut halterneck, also cut low-ish at the back.

Icoulddoitbetter · 15/03/2011 14:23

I go for a tankini. I'm a slightly odd shape, and even when I'm really skinny I look odd in a bikini. When I can get them, I like short surfing shorts and a tankini top. I'm also very very pale and white skin always looks worse and stands out more.

I know ideally I shouldn't give a stuff what other people think but I'm not happy with my body so I'd rather hide the lumpy bits and feel more confident than walk around half naked inwardly cringeing!

DuplicitousBitch · 15/03/2011 15:42

lol @ laweasel

withagoat · 15/03/2011 15:53

BIKINI
if onyl slim and young wore them that would be about 2 people

withagoat · 15/03/2011 15:53

ALWAYS try on bras first

always take home

mappandlucia · 15/03/2011 16:21

Bikini - I like having a brown tum

DuplicitousBitch · 15/03/2011 16:25

i would give passersby snow blindness if i wore a bikini

ImeldaM · 15/03/2011 16:32

I wear a tankini but have one that top & bottoms pretty much meet up, bottoms are shortie style, I find quite flattering but does depend on your figure.

BitOfFun · 15/03/2011 16:36

I tend to think that people over thirty in bikinis (or indeed, budgie-smugglers) tend to resemble a pod of walruses engaged in a territorial dispute, so I avoid them personally.

detachandtrustyourself · 15/03/2011 16:40

High waisted shorts style bottoms tankini with tummy support and long, different size to bottom, top. Board shorts as well, when I can get away with it. And an underwired bra bikini top underneath. Feels and sounds almost like more clothes than normal! Better than one pieces for going to the toilet. I wish we could wear those lacy things with long legs they used to wear in the olden days.
