Good eye make-up remover? URGENT help needed

isaacswannabeyummymummy · 13/03/2011 09:29

Please could somebody recommend a really good eye make-up remover. I started using (stupidly) Maybelline Falsies mascara and nothing will shift it! My eyelashes have gone hard and are a bit sore :(

I don't mind paying a bit more for a good quality one, I normally wear lancome waterproof mascara so it would need to budge the waterproof stuff too. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Baby oil will shift it.

Oil cleansing method. Can use anything from almond oil, a mix of castor oil and sunflower oil, Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter or Eve Lom type thing. Hot muslin or flannel. The grease dissolves it far better than watery makeup remover (although Waitrose and Simple are good cheapies, Lancome's Bifacil, if you want to burn twenties)

Thanks for your fast replies! Have suceeded with baby oil, thanks HettyAmaretti. Will definately have to invest in some decent stuff soon though. Has anybody used the Lancome or Eve Lom stuff?- am a bit of a sucker for the posh brands! Although only if they work!

Love the Body Shop chamomile remover but not sure I can guarantee it would shift that (but it's not as expensive as Lancome etc...perhaps you could get a sample before buying that one?)

notapizzaeater · 13/03/2011 10:12

I love the Virgin Vie one - you have to shake the bottle for a bit to mix the oil in, shifts anything - I use Max Factor Lipfinity lippie and if I didn't take oit off will last for 7 days on me Smile - this is the only stuff that shifts it.

Oil of Olay cleansing wipe - blue packet - shift anything but somehow are gentle. Think the trick with remover is to get a cotton wool pad REALLY soaked and hold it against your closed eye for a while and THEN start gently wiping away.

isaacswannabeyummymummy · 13/03/2011 10:21

Ooh have got a BodyShop voucher so may purchase the chamomile one today, as I'm on my way into Leeds now - let's just hope it stops raining soon as DH and I are taking our DS to watch the St Patricks Day parade.

I agree with Hetty, i use baby oil all the time and it shifts everything. It's quite often in the posh brands too. Mineral oils mineral oil at the end of the day.

valiumredhead · 13/03/2011 10:38

I used baby oil all through my goth teen years too! Works well is you dampen then cotton wool pad then soak with oil.

TheAllNewOoooh · 13/03/2011 10:40

I love the Lancome blue one. Not so greasy as oil but very very effective.

CarminaBurrito · 13/03/2011 10:40

If you want a treat, the channel biphase one is lovely and very effective

I used the Lancome one for a about half a year as I kept getting those gift bags that always seem to have a travel size in but after that I found that it made the skin around my eyes really sore and cracked, so haven't touched it since. It was really good though.

My optician recommended using baby shampoo on a damp cotton wool pad - you only need the tiniest drop - he was talking about using it just to clean the skin around the eyes in general (apparently it gets rid of infections) but I was travelling with handluggage only shortly afterwards. Travel sized bottle of baby shampoo did everything - make up remover, shampoo, shower gel and to handwash clothes. Never looked back!

Boots own brand sensitive eye make-up remover is very good & inexpensive. It's another oily one - you definitely need oil to get rid of waterproof massacre (as my DMum calls it)! Wink

otchayaniye · 13/03/2011 11:12

I also am a sucker for posh brands but not really for skincare and doubly not for cleanser. Spending $$$ is really a waste of your cash because they thing is on the skin for seconds then down the sink. So really you need something kind to your skin (and natural oil is about as non-irritating as you can get) and which is effective. Cetaphil, oil based cleansers would work.

Save the 40 quid spent on Eve Lom (I used to use it but now just use sunflower/castor oil) or similar and put it towards a really nice piece of clothing, or perfume.

It is money literally poured down the sink.

These are not my words but the words of a Harley St derm who is a friend of mine's father. He added that most expensive creams are total bollocks. Sunscreen, genetics, not smoking and stuff with retinol/hyaluronic/AHAs etc in the highest concentrations (not OTC levels) are really the only things that work.

Gingefringe · 13/03/2011 11:32

Love the baby shampoo suggestion - sounds very sensible.

I use the No7 eye-make up removed. Stock up on it when they dish out those £5 vouchers. I find it excellent and very gentle.

Also use Liz Earle cleanser and this can be used over the eye area very effectively.

Drizzela · 13/03/2011 11:33

Baby oil is the best thing i've ever used.

Evizza · 13/03/2011 11:52

The Boots Botanics one is great, it's also one that you have to shake up. It's only £3.05 so a bargain !!

LittleMissStuffit · 13/03/2011 12:34

Waitrose Pure (own brand) EMR is really excellent. If you dampen the cotton wood pad well and hold for 30 secs over the lashes......it gets of my waterproof mascara without any rubbing and eye stinging.

It's only £1.97p !!!

manticlimactic · 13/03/2011 14:40

I use Maybelline falsies mascara and just use Tescos own brand (think they're 79p) but they had some more on offer at 22p and they shift everything! My DD uses about 4 coats and if shifts that, well, it's got to be good.

manticlimactic · 13/03/2011 14:41

Sorry, should have said. they're face wipes.
