Lakeland Bobble Buster

Rather a boring query, but still.

Some of my winter wool knitted dresses and cashmere sweaters are starting to bobble a bit and I'd like to restore them to their pristine condition, if possible.

I seem to recall someone on here recommending the Lakeland Bobble Buster for the job. It's very reasonable but, before ordering, would be grateful for views on how well it works - or recommendations for something that does the job better, if you have them.

TIA.

I've always found those sorts of gizmos useless, the best thing is either a wool comb or a good ol' fashioned razor blade.

blossoming · 12/03/2011 14:23

I almost bought this last week but as I had other shopping I bought the JL one. I think they're near enough the same. For £6.50 I have saved myself a fortune. It really is miraculous. I have enjoyed wearing my jumper dresses again: I really thought they were for the bin!

withagoat · 12/03/2011 14:25

always useless

blossoming · 12/03/2011 14:37

I'm surprised you say that withagoat. All my and dh's knitwear is now pristine!

NettoSuperstar · 12/03/2011 14:39

I use cheapy poundshop razors for this.

polyhymnia · 12/03/2011 15:19

Don't want to use razors as I'm not at all 'handy' and am bound to shave a hole in the garments ! Interested in the different views. Thank you. Please keep them coming.

I bought the john lewis one and at the end of doing my first dress it broke! A piece of the metal 'foil' bit broke off. JL are sending me a new one and don't want the old one back which is something.

Daydreaming · 12/03/2011 17:42

I bought one of those comb things from Brora a few months ago and it is quite good. But have also been thinking about getting the JL thingy.

I don't know why, but some things seem o bobble a lot more than others. In the past I have had jubmpers that didn't bobble at all - I wonder whether it was very good quality wool???

Today I wore a wool knitted tunic type thing for the first time and it bobbled after one wear, from rubbing against my coat !!! Shock

shopalot · 12/03/2011 17:57

I don't like the electric "deboobler"-I made a hole in a cashmere cardi once but I find the pack of two de-fuzzers http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/product/21997 here really really excellent especially for delicate knits.

shopalot · 12/03/2011 17:58

why didn't that work?

blossoming · 12/03/2011 18:28

Every knitwear bobbles when you're carrying babies around. Especially the boob area! I've worn more knitwear than ever this cold winter and really thought I'd be replacing everything. Not any more!

CointreauVersial · 12/03/2011 18:36

I have a "Remington Fuzz-Away" which is about 20 years old, and it is fab for revitalising knitwear. I hate bobbles with a passion.

Tw1nkle · 12/03/2011 19:30

I love mine!!!

wickedfairy · 13/03/2011 07:19

I bought the lakeland one last week - marvellous invention! All my stuff was bobbled from carrying DD around and everything but one looks pristine again! The only one it doesn't work well on is a soft, slightly "fluffy" jumper - it takes bobbles off, but the jumper still looks crap - it's just the type of wool I think. It also gets caught up in the whirring blade thing, right in the middle.

Everything else ("normal" jumpers/dresses, seem to be non-fluffy wool stuff) looks brand new, I couldn't believe it! So much bobbly wool ended up in the catcher thing and everything looked great afterwards.

Couldn't believe a gimmicky thing worked so well (I don't work for lakeland btw!). Buy one now :-)

polyhymnia · 13/03/2011 11:52

Many thanks for your reports - thinking of ordering the Bobble Buster and the Lakeland de-fuzzers shopalot recommended so I can try all options.

I use the JML 'bobble off' after ironing my jumpers and woollens and it keeps them looking good.

Corriewatcher · 13/03/2011 19:13

I was looking at getting the Lakeland debobbler after Xmas to rescue some of my jumpers that were bobbling badly. I held off cos I knew that once I looked in that damn catalogue I would come out with a £60+ order - it always happens! Fortunately, I found the same thing with a different name at the same price in my local ironmongers. It's really made a difference to the jumpers - would definitely recommend getting one of some sort.
