Girl's
I am travelling over from Dublin for a weekend in London and were thinking of either having a spa day/ facial etc whilst we are there. Can you recommend anywhere ? Also whilst we are at it, what are your top tips for two young forty year olds to do in London?
We have done the sights and just wonder what you recommend??

Thanks

King road for shopping & lunch.

Knightsbridge for Massimo Dutti..(for you both :)

Fenwicks, Selfridges & Browns all worth a visit..ending at Harvey Nics for Cocktails @ fifth floor harvey nics at the end of the day too.. always a good idea. Grin

Gotta be Liberty for general lovely mooching.

Emo76 · 07/03/2011 18:08

I highly recommnend Bliss spa facial in South Ken - then spot of shopping on Kings Rd and cocktails at Bluebird!

cabbageroses · 07/03/2011 19:11

Elemis spa in Bond Street looks nice but I have read poor reviews...

O Spa in New Bond Street worth a look online.

Tea at Fortnum and Mason? or Browns?

walk in Regents Park?

It depends where you're staying as where to start but I love starting off with Tea in Fortnum & Mason and shopping in Liberty, Browns, John Lewis, Selfridges and obviously wherever else on Oxford Street/Bond Street/Regents Street takes your fancy.

Next head over to South Ken and lunch in the cafe at the v&a (actually lovely) or as I tend to grab a cake from Hummingbird Bakery and finish at the Bliss Spa. Like Emo76 said finish with spot more shopping on kings road and cocktails at Bluebird Grin.

If you plan to go to a spa you might need to make your appointments in advance.

brookeslay · 10/03/2011 17:32

Elemis spa was shite the did not offer me a drink but offered itto two other ladies and then was snotty when I gave a tip. I like Claridges bar food agree with Browns for afternoon tea.

Red Door Salon is very accommodating or day spahere

brookeslay · 10/03/2011 17:32

it to * not itto

nikki1978 · 10/03/2011 17:49

Wander down South Bank

Borough Market by London Bridge

Covent Garden

Knightsbridge

Hyde Park

Afternoon Tea at one of the many 5 Star Hotels

Tower of London

There are so many bits of London that I love and it is so big that you would not get around it in a weekend.

bethyrose · 10/03/2011 17:52

Borough Market on Saturday morning is FAB!!

nikki1978 · 10/03/2011 18:00

Oh and search Top Table for a great restaurant on Sat evening :)

brookeslay · 10/03/2011 18:04

Also Somerset House is lovely for a relax and quite quiet weekday.

interesting

Someone like Betty Bltyhes also will deliver picnics in the park.here

If you want to visit the Tate be sure to get a taxi boat it also stops on the London eye and you can get a champagne capsule and fasttrack any queue.

If you do go to Borough Market you can walk to the Golden Hind and Visit the Globe Theatre all nearby.

Tanso · 10/03/2011 19:40

definitely Borough Market. Amazing.
Kew Gardens is very special.

wellwisher · 10/03/2011 23:54

Where are you staying?

jen127 · 23/03/2011 17:07

We got a special at the Park Plaza Riverbank on the embankment!

I went to the Elemis spa recently off Bond Street. Not really a spa in my opinion, just treatment rooms, although v swanky. Going to the Sanctuary day spa in Covent Garden is the obvious choice, lots of lounging about/swimming options. It's a bit mass production for my taste, but lots of people I know like it.

I like Covent Garden for shopping. Small enough not to overwhelm. Also the King's Road, depending on where you're staying.

Everyone's assuming you want to shop, but it'd be a shame to miss out on a bit of culture. I second Somerset House (near Covent Garden). Also the Wallace Collection is a hidden gem which does lovely lunch/afternoon tea.

withagoat · 23/03/2011 17:19

loloL AT describing yourself as hip

Blu · 23/03/2011 17:24

I wouldn't waste a day in London in a spa - surely you have spas and facials in Dublin?
Unless you are in a hotel that offer facuilas and you can do it as a quick relaxing rest between Sat aft shopping and taking off for cocktails.

Spitalfields Market, Brick lane, Trueman's brewery site, and all the little side streets around there.

herecomesthsun · 23/03/2011 17:26

hey, there is nothing wrong with being hip and knowing it! (it seems quite a good attitude to start out with for having a fun weekend)

herecomesthsun · 23/03/2011 17:28

also, I would not bother with a spa. We are planning on spending some time in London next month, and I can get all the pampering I want down here, but I cannot go see the sights and the plays or wander the shops of London (wistful)

sue52 · 23/03/2011 17:29

I would go the V and A followed by Harrods then Harvey Nicks. If in the mood, go along to one of the ticket booths around Leicester square and see if there is anything you fancy seeing in the theatre. A walk along the embankment followed by cocktails is a given. Covent garden is good for lunch and a browse.

animula · 23/03/2011 17:57

And there is also Brick Lane on a Sunday.

Not just for the market in the morning but the cafes and shops. Brick Lane v. close to Shoreditch/Hoxton, which is also definitely worth a potter.

Downside is that it is not so central - and so you may not, really, have time.

Stangirl · 23/03/2011 21:33

Well I think most of these suggestions are lovely but very middle aged. Shopping is good over on Brick Lane and Redchurch Street for trendy boutiques and odd little design shops etc. Go clubbing at Fabric and drink in Hoxton/Shoreditch. If you want to be bleeding edge hip go out in Dalston and visit the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club - check Time OUt for the cabaret listings - they're a lot of fun.

I'm in my 40s and if I wasn't pregnant and have a one year old to take care of - I'd still be doing all of the above.

jen127 · 29/03/2011 09:33

Posters Thank you so much ! I think you are right about the spa, might be worth giving it a miss to wander round the shops and boutiques and do a it of boozing and dancing ! Will check out Timeout for listings and check what is happening next weekend! Once again thank you !!!

If it pours with rain, head to Westfield for undercover shopping - lots of restaurants there too, as well as a huge cinema.
