Is this dress too mature?

Turning 30 this year. And to be honest i have lost the plot when it has come to clothes.

So what do you think of this
www.lkbennett.com/clothes/ss11preview/DRVIOLA619VISCOSEMIX for my big birthday night out?

It is very classic. I feel at 30 you should be getting away with something with a younger feel to it.

I know what you mean about clothes, and I think it is difficult to know what to wear once you get past about 25.

EasyCrew · 23/02/2011 20:50

Ooh, I like it!

It wouldn't necessarily spring to my mind for a big night out. but depends what you have planned? it says dinner to me, not bar/club.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/02/2011 20:51

Honestly ? Its a lovely dress but I would think it would be more suited to someone late 30's + than just turning 30.

What sort of size/shape are you ? What are your best/worst bits ?

UrsulaBuffay · 23/02/2011 20:52

Yes, it is a bit fuddy duddy. You need something more fun, 30 isn't old y'know :p

HeathcliffMoorland · 23/02/2011 20:57

I quite like it.

Depends a fair bit on what you wear with it.

ZombiePlan · 23/02/2011 20:58

Where are you going? I'm nearly 30 and I'd wear that out to somewhere v formal. If you want a semi-formal-ish classic, I'd go for a DvF wrap dress.

BelligerentGhoul · 23/02/2011 21:00

No imho - too severe and first Lady-ish.'

dinkystinky · 23/02/2011 21:03

It looks like a work dress (albeit a nice one) to me.

mrspear · 23/02/2011 21:05

I know 30 isn't old but i feel old. I have a 16 month old who still doesn't sleep through so i am knackered and as for my body ... it is so different to pre pregnancy! I have 36 d (from 34b) bust, waist 31" (from 26) and hips 41" (from 37) - any ideas? I am 5 6 as well if it helps!

Watching with interest...turning 30 in a couple of weeks with a young baby too and wondering what to wear. Haven't been out in ages!

HuckingFell · 23/02/2011 21:10

Dull and a bit hot to wear on a night out I think.

How are your legs? Boobs or legs out?

CointreauVersial · 23/02/2011 21:10

It's nice, but looks a bit like a work dress. OK for going out to dinner or somewhere formal.

I feel your pain, though. I can never get it right when it comes to "going out" clothes.

dinkystinky · 23/02/2011 21:13

You're hour-glassesque MrsPear. Check out Anglomania stuff on my wardrobe - fashionable and you'll look (and feel) fab in it.

mrspear · 23/02/2011 21:14

Don't like my mummy boobs so it will have to be legs

I am so glad i am not the only one with this problem!

OP posts:
HuckingFell · 23/02/2011 21:15

this is v nice.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/02/2011 21:15

mrspear Sad I feel your pain on the non sleeping 16 month old. Are your legs good ? How about a tunic dress with some opaques and killer heels. this is pretty

or this

What sort of night out are you having ?

AintMissBeehiving · 23/02/2011 21:17

yy - looks like something I'd wear for work. Nice but not really for going out unless its for a meal with Granny.

EdgarAleNPie · 23/02/2011 21:17

i'd have thought this a better dress in the same vein...

but stil in the 'sexy work' rather than the 'pub to club' cateory.

dinkystinky · 23/02/2011 21:17

MrsPear - Good Underwear (get measured and invest in a couple of good bras) is your friend when you have mummy boobs.

You're only turning 30 - yes, you feel tired and old now - but you want to look as young and fabulous as you can for your big night.

EdgarAleNPie · 23/02/2011 21:19

as for Anglomania - hows this?

AintMissBeehiving · 23/02/2011 21:22

Tethers linked to this the other day which I love.

EdgarAleNPie · 23/02/2011 21:31

what about this? difficult with large norks i duppose...

EdgarAleNPie · 23/02/2011 21:35

thing is, for a pub do, i have always felt over-dressed in a 'naice dres' based outfit. I like being overdressed, but the right thing for the occasion is more likely to be - nice fitting jeans and a party top.

QueeferSutherland · 23/02/2011 21:40

Similar?

I have just turned 30 and had the same problem. I wanted an Anglomania dress but got one from Asos in the end as I was skint.Sad

It's hard to tread the line between grown-up and middle-aged, isn't it?

I can't show my arms, so I tend to buy "older" frocks.

EdgarAleNPie · 23/02/2011 21:40

an ensemblelike this for instance.

bit hippyish perhaps? i suspet you like a more fitted look from your initial dress choice.
