Moisturiser for very dry, sensitive, eczema prone facial skin?

Please? Oh, I've got rosacea as well, so have to make sure nothing aggravates that as well.

I've practically given up with moisturising just now (just using a very basic nivea one) as I find it hard to find one that really suits my skin.

Sorry to be a commoner but Aqueous cream is great.

cluelessnchaos · 23/02/2011 12:26

Cowsheds baby moisturising cream is all I have been able to wear since ds2 was born

miso · 23/02/2011 16:12

Eucerin facial cream is good for my very dry skin - the AC at work dries my skin out so I use loads & this seems to be the only one that works without being too greasy & giving me spots.

TimeForCake · 23/02/2011 17:39

Liz Earle does a fab range of products and I think she is patron of the eczema society or similar?? She definitely had eczema which was one of the reasons she developed the range I think. I love it, it's very gentle and only has natural botanical ingredients.

solongandthanksfor · 23/02/2011 21:22

Oh, thank you all. So pleased to have got so much advice. I never thought I'd have so many skin issues in my 40s - it's much worse than when I was a teenager.

I am going to look into these various options & also will start taking fish oil supplements again.

I have considered whether to go for some alternative therapy for my skin issues - has anyone tried acupuncture for something like this?

solong - Have a look here. The website is terrible and hard to navigate around- you have to scroll right down for the products but has lots of written info about dry skin/rosacea and there's separate page about ezcema/psoriasis. I find the products from here really life changing. I can't remember who recommended to me a few years ago but they are the only thing that consistently sort my skin out.

HettyAmaretti · 23/02/2011 22:08

I'd say it'd be best to make sure you're getting all you're essential fats, drinking plenty of water and have been using the simplest effective moisturier you can find for say, 6 weeks, before you look at treatment. NHS or alternative therapies.

That way you get a picture of what you're actually dealing with. Hopefully it should help avoid you being over / under treated. If you try too much at once you wont know what's helping.

Do try Udder Cream, it's a shame it sounds so daft. I really think it'd help you. In any case it's best to start simple.

valiumredhead · 23/02/2011 22:31

Aveeno is fab stuff.

roary · 23/02/2011 22:40

Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter. £2.50 a jar. Or just grapeseed/olive oil.

crazynell · 24/02/2011 00:22

I have similar skin to you, solongand and i have found out that its really important to work out what are your triggers, as i have tried loads of products and i spent lots of money and now I have a clearer idea of what works for me and what sets it off - for me its triggered by wheat, sugar, yeasty foods and things that are too processed - also STRESS is a big one.

I found out that any cream no matter how natural or organic is no good if I'm eating lots of bad things or if i'm too stressed and its no point me using it if it contains beeswax (cera alba) sadly i can't use liz earle for this reason or some weleda creams

Eucerin Aveeno and cetaphil are good for me

Good luck in your search for what works for you.

madamimadam · 24/02/2011 00:43

I don't know if it's of any help but I saw an NHS dermatologist this week who's given me Aveeno on prescription for my eczema and dermatitis.

She said to avoid facial scrubs etc and use the mildest cleanser possible - she recommended Simple (tho it doesn't work for me, I have to say). As other posters have said, she said stress was a big factor too - as was caffeine, alcohol and hot foods.

(PS AC always dried me out - am I right in thinking it was discredited recently for dry skin?)I'd second what everyone said about Eucerin though.

I tried most of the above but Salcura (the Zeoderm) one worked amazingly for me.

PootlewasthebestFlump · 28/11/2016 19:17

Spiezia - using the balm cleanser?was a deal-breaker for me and I tried the toner and balm moisturiser this year and it has transformed my skin.

I had acne, rosacea, dry and eczema patches. Lovely.

Clear now. Ime you need to steer clear of anything too water-based. Oil is kinder to skin.

Some people with rosacea can't tolerate aloe Vera so be careful.

13umpuu · 28/11/2016 19:35

I use Liz Earle and dermalogica - Liz Earle products were (I think) developed by someone with eczema and dermalogica do a nice mini pack for sensitive skin - or you could ask for test sachets... both brands are v gentle and rich without being greasy/grim to use!

I second the drinking lots of water tip, and I find easing off on dairy and citrus help me.

Good luck finding what suits you

BusterGonad · 29/11/2016 12:46

Aveeno. It's usually on offer too.

notagiraffe · 29/11/2016 12:58

Diprobase is good for eczema. It smells a bit medicinal but it works as a moisturiser and is a good skin soother too.

rubybleu · 29/11/2016 14:27

Eucerin Atocontrol Acute Care Cream & Face Cream have been really good for my dry eczema rosacea-y skin. You can get it at Boots.

Plus a bit of hydrocortisone for the stubborn patch on one of my temples.

Footle · 29/11/2016 14:41

Yes , Diprobase ! I knew there was something wrong about Double Base. Actually Aveeno, the tube that says it's good for babies , is the one I like best.

ShotsFired · 29/11/2016 14:42

I have suffered similar sensitive skin/facial eczema issue to you OP, I sympathise
(...get bad skin > stress about bad skin / bad skin gets worse...)

Fore the daytime I use a Garnier face cream (I use a lot of Garnier as I find I tolerate it well), but my little joy is at night when I massage cocoa butter into my face. It takes a while to really melt in and I honestly think the massaging in is part of what helps my eczema stay under control. And the action feels so soothing as well, so it's psychologically nice too.

You can use the (much maligned on here now I think) Baby Bum Butter from Waitrose; or just buy blocks of CB and blend it with olive oil into a thick ointment/cream yourself.

ShotsFired · 29/11/2016 14:46

My pp just said: or just buy blocks of CB and blend it with olive oil into a thick ointment/cream yourself

Not olive oil - almond oil. Sorry.

Saying that, even straight almond oil is great to massage in as well!

For exfoliation I uses those exfoliating gloves in the shower. Very refreshing!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/11/2016 14:50

Aveeno cream or lotion.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/11/2016 14:53

Zombie threadHmm

sugaredplumfox · 29/11/2016 15:28

I use the body shop aloe which is for sensitive skin and I also have rosacea and horrendously dry skin.

Anything else stings and this sinks in nice and quick however I use neutrogena dermatological cream every night as an overnight mask and works wonders
