brazilian blowdry

so I had mine 'done' today and my hair is all shiny, silky, straight and non frizzy. It is lovely.

The salon suggested that I use Johnsons Baby Shampoo to wash my hair with and sold me a large bottle of Fudge conditioner, which I think was a bit of a con, but bought it anyway.

So what is it that I should be using to keep this look and shouldnt be using? I have 3 days until I can wash my hair to get this sorted out.

Help!

I did mine for the first time last Thursday. I am very impressed. Washed it off yesterday morning and just blow dried it. Got up this morning and quickly brushed it and it still looks lovely and sleek. I have never been able to go 2 days before.

I bought the stuff from ebay (£28 and I can get 2 applications from it) and put it on myself (got a friend to straighten the back). The instructions with mine said salt free shampoo. I bought this one

Thanks TSM

What did you search for on ebay to buy the original treatment?

Havingkittens my hairdresser said it will be flat when you first wash the treatment out and pick up volume after a couple of weeks.

hi all, i have LOADS of experience doing keratin blow dry's at work.
yes, some of them contain very nasty ingredients, you must shop around and ask questions, there are more advanced treatments available now without all these extra additives, even safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women now. keratin is after all a natural protein.
hair care is imperative after, for 3 days you cannot wash, get wet, tuck behind your ears, tie up, wear a hat etc...anything that will create a dent in your hair. for these 3 days the keratin is hardening in your hair and any dents will become permanent. if you get wet you must straighten with an iron asap. the heat seals your hair and locks in the keratin.
to get the full lasting effects of the treatments you must use a shampoo and conditioner that is sodium chloride free, other shampoo is ok but your treatment wont last as long...salt desolves the keratin.
one important message...it is really important your stylist does this correctly, it is a long treatment (at least 2 hours continuous work, dependant on amount of hair) one where you cannot cut corners or the result will be bad. be careful who you part your money with as lets face it, its pretty pricey.
please repeat your treatment every 2-4 months as you will get a build up each time=better results
hope this helps everyone

so I had mine done at the ginger group last feb and I had to go back to another salon and have it done again a full 4 weeks later.

i tried them again in august and had to do it again a few weeks later because it just didn't seem to work.

both times i paid the £99.00 for it. (at westfield)

has anyone had a good experience anywhere else in London that has done a good brazillian blowdry?

JaxTellersOldLady · 25/02/2011 12:22

well I have just washed and dried mine and I am not impressed at all! Yes, my hair is slightly less fluffy but nowhere near what I thought it would be!

eandz I also had mine done at ginger group in Hemel and yesterday I went online to try to get an email address as I had forgot to take my voucher along and found some horrendous reviews involving brazilian blowdry and colouring at that salon. Sad Wish I had known pre spending £75 on it.

I will complain to them and I will also complain to head office. Thing is The GG is a franchise salon and this is often the problem, not the same continuity as the original owner.

Just asked my Mum to look and she said she wouldnt be happy either.

My original hairdresser would have a FIT if she saw this now. Angry

I followed all instructions bought the bloody expensive conditioner at the salon, bought a new Weleda Shampoo in boots yesterday that is SLS and Sodium free.

I am going to go and straighten my hair now and see if it holds the style today in this windy weather!

Thank god, I didnt take my 2 friends with me on the day who also wanted it done. Isaid to wait and see what mine was like after I had washed and styled it myself.

eandz did you complain to The Ginger Group? And if you did what was the outcome?

I was going to travel into London to get mine done, then saw they had a salon closer to me so I drove to that one. Wish I had gone to Mayfair now.

have straightened my hair and although it looks nice it is not shiny and sleek like I wanted. Also it is tuggy when I brush it.

Have fired off an email to Groupon and I will wait to hear what they have to say.

Angry

JaxTellersOldLady

I complained last feb and they told me it was my fault. I was unhappy, so figured I wouldn't ever go back. Then I ended up being in a hurry before going traveling and ended up using Ginger Group as a last minute resort. I convinced myself that maybe I had done something wrong.

Second time around and I now know without a shadow of a doubt that it was Ginger Groups fault, but really what was I expecting? Everyone at GG (westfield) had bad hair...why did I expect anything different? Complaining to them was useless. They didn't care.

Don't expect to hear anything back from Groupon. I sent them an email about a dodgy salon and never heard back.

Mine's a bit rubbish to I reckon. I didn't have it done at Ginger, but at an independent salon in Acton called Enzo. I mean it's not as fuzzy as it was but it's not what I'd call sleek either. It's only been a week and a half. Mind you, the first week it wouldn't really take a curl either which I wasn't happy about. It seems to hold a bit better now but I'm guessing that's cos the products washed out a fair bit already.

are you all expecting a keratin (brazillian blowdry) treatment to straighten your hair?

it will not straighten, just smooth the cuticle and therefore defrizz. if you have wavy or curly hair you still will do but a more 'together' wave or curl.

keratin is a protein, it doesnt alter the structure of your hair and change its dna like chemical straighteners do.

it is absolutely fantastic at what it does but is not a 'miracle' cure and i feel some hair salons mislead their clients

Very dodgy: Be careful. None of the "large" hair companies do this for v good reasons. The formaldehyde contained in the Brazilians are bad news.

Report
njhc · 25/02/2011 21:53

jojo you are mistaken, several 'large' companies do this treatment. in my exp large hairdressing companies are the worst for taking a clients money and not really giving a shit about a good result with any type of service.

there are several keratin treatment brands out there that dont contain formaldehyde

I wasn't expecting it to straighten my hair. In fact, that was the last thing I wanted. I wanted it to de-fluff/frizz my hair. Which it has to some extent but not as much as I expected. I suspect though that it's partially due to the fact that a lot of my hair has broken from being dried with a hot brush (similar to Babyliss Big Hair) as my hair is quite fine so all the broken bits are still fluffing out rather than being smooth. BUT, I was hoping for the "more together curl" (or wave) described by njhc as my waves still feel quite wooly which was partially my complaint in the first place. I wear my hair in a sort of Lauren Bacall circa 1940s style and was hoping my waves would now be smooth and shiny. Instead they either drop out really quickly or still look fluffy.

njhc no I wasnt expecting it to strighten my hair either, just defrizz it. After blowdrying yesterday my hair was less fluffy than normal but not like a hairdressers blowdry which is what I was expecting. However after straightening with straighteners it was lovely and stayed perfect all day and all night. This morning it still looks fine.

I have learned yesterday that the formaldehyde content that UK hairdressers use compaired to other countries is less and maybe that is why it isnt the same. I read an interesting article that a friend sent me from Daily Mail of all places. Probably trying to scare monger, but as I was the only person in the large salon getting it done I think it was fine.

My little salon where I always get my hair cut and coloured wanted to see it after GG group, but I had to come up to Scotland the next day so didnt make it in, I will pop in when I go back to let them see.

HAvent had a reply from Groupon and after reading other replies on here wont expect one. I will be checking out salons reviews BEFORE buying next time.

I washed mine this morning and it is super straight and very shiny (my hair is lots of v. fine). No conditioner and it dried like that without any styling. It was expensive though, about 180 quid and took a long time.

Unfortunately the cut is pants - the layers he insisted on putting in are really obvious and choppy which I suppose is because I never saw the cut- it was done at the same time as the treatment and highlights). I would definitely repeat the treatment but have it cut first.

If you were going to have this done would you have colour (highlights) done first or would you get the brazilian blow dry done first ?
Thank you

Actually, cut aside, I'm pleased. Can't stop stroking it.

My hairdresser works out of his house in Muswell Hill if you're in N. London. WIll be happy to recommend him if you want his contact nos. He's lovely so long as you lay down the law on the scissor action.
