Pandora - fab or chav?

phooey · 21/02/2011 21:07

I bought myself a cream leather Pandora bracelet, to go with the lovely Monica Vinader cream and silver Fiji bracelet DH bought me for Xmas.

I've become a tad obsessed, it's cleverly designed for magpies like me! I've bought 3 beads for it already at a cost of £40-£50 each Blush

I'm going to buy a black Pandora string too so I can wear beads around my neck too.

I feel like a convert to a cult, but also that a lot of jewellery has copied the Pandora style recently, especially M and S costume stuff, so it's nice to have the real deal. It's also very versatile - adding different colours of glass beads depending on outfit.

Fab or chav?

How did this get resurrected again after so long?
Fwiw they and their imitations are now just as ubiquitous and predictable as ever! But harmless and must give pleasure.

I think it's been resurrected again because so many of us are amazed at the fad lasting so long. Personally, I would hate it if my lovely partner decided to get me a Pandora bracelet. I'd wonder what had happened to him! Haha..! It's such an unimaginative thing to give as a gift. fgrin

I have a bracelet made up of tiny photo frames and each frame has tiny photo for dh, ds, our dogs, dh & me at our wedding and it is lovely. The photo frames are the bracelet, they don't dangle like charms, made it myself from items bought at hobby shop. It gets lots of compliments, and made one each for dm, mil, and sil.

I have no idea why people care so strongly about this. Stating that it's 'unimaginative' like that's a fact rather than an opinion. I'm not a Pandora fan personally, but I can't abide the sneering distain that some people have about someone else liking something they don't. I find that very odd.

Naff for me, sorry.

I love mine, all my charms have personal meaning to me, and I don't give a fuck if people think it's chavvy or not.

Not a fan, sorry OP, I think they are chavvy (not a word I would normally use but you asked!). It's a gimmicky high street store that people think is 'posh' or designer for some reason when it totally isn't. Same reason I never shop in Karen Millen or Ted Baker...bog standard high street stuff that costs twice or three times the price of a normal high street store.

I love Pandora bracelets. There are so many ways you can put them together. I feel happy when I wear mine.... lots of memories there....

I don't like them and always have a little chuckle at the queue for them at Christmas where customers go in one by one like they are something exclusive

Then the queue to return them after Christmas....

They aren't my cup of tea, but friends of mine have them. They love theirs because the beads are given to them with love and mean something to them. It's sweet.

They were naff in 2011 but off the scale naff in 2016!

I think anyone who judges someone else on the jewellery they wear is a bit of a twat tbh.

I quite agree Jenny.

Lolz at this thread being five years old now. I think maybe OP isn't still looking for opinions.

Personally, I don't like them and think it's a bit unoriginal as a gift to give now. But I don't really give a toss with what other people do with their money so if people like it then it's none of my business.

Pretty sure the word chav is on the no list now as well!

i like them and i like the concept but i don't like that everyone has them and there are too many copies. I don't wear much in the way of jewelery though.

I have a completely full Pandora bracelet bought for me 'by' the children a few years ago.

I really don't like it now and never wear it. I liked it when I got it, but they really have become a bit too common now. I also have a leather thong bracelet with about 4 charms on it (the limit, I think for this type) and I don't mind that one so wear it sometimes.

I also have several Pandora earrings, but these, I like a lot.

Yes, I have a very unimaginative husband.

I don't like them so it's easy I don't buy them.
My dd doesn't like them either and it just gets crazy as somebody bought her one and then all the extended family keep buying her beads / charms for presents.
Poor kid thinks it's a useless present and have just heard the same family branch have done it again.
She never wears it, but they keep saying it will be nice for when she is older.
I'm tempted to let her sell it next time she asks.

I was given one by DH. I have worn it because I feel I have to but they're not exactly imaginative. I already had a charm bracelet which was a heirloom so I was a bit Hmm at being given another one. I think I got away with saying that 'less is more' on the charm front so I've not been given any more. I wouldn't say they were chav though, just boring.

gillybeanz · 04/12/2016 22:05

I wasn't saying they were chavvy btw, just thought I'd add this Grin
Just not my cup of tea.
Please don't invest or let someone else do it for your dd if they aren't into them, it's not fair.

BusterGonad · 05/12/2016 06:17

I don't think they are chavy, I'm not really into them, I tend to put them in the Radley bag category, but I'd be made up with a old school charm bracket covered in interesting charms, you know like a flower charm, bumble bee, moon, bird etc. that would get me all excited! Grin and I'm well aware that some people would find that hideous!

Inadither I've just read your previous post (regarding charm bracelet). I think they are beautiful!

I've just googled them and the charms are all a bit squashed looking! Confused

Personally I'm not keen, but then I don't wear much jewellery (earrings and watch). The level of nastiness on this post is pretty uncalled for though. I don't like them, I've said so, but haven't been horrible to or about the OP. I don't think they're chavvy at all btw, I hate that word.

I like mine and quite frankly am past the age where I need a consensus on what I wear!

If you like something get it, if not I'm sure you don't need a vote on it.
