Chinese nail bars

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 15:01

i have just discoevred out local one.
its SO SO cheap, the only down side is the limited communication, still no chats about holidays which is GOOD

a polish change ( which they also add a file and cuticle work) is only FIVE POUNDS

and lasts forever

what is with the growth of chinese nail bars? and what are the little plastic pots with peoples names on?

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 15:03

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 15:06

i have only yer actual chinatown and suspect they are a bit dearer too. false nails would not survive breadmaking I suspect.

cyb · 10/02/2011 15:08

I am enjoying my Leighton Denny
'inthesalonwithAlison' purchase from QVC

great shades

ReturnOfTheBoomBap · 10/02/2011 15:08

Do you live in the country? Grin

I haven't been to a non-Chinese (or Vietnamese, as they often are 'round my way) nail bar in years.

They are cheap, they are quick, you can usually just drop in and there is none of this inane drivel chat about X factor (although my regular nail 'technician' does sometimes want to talk about the eastenders baby storyline ).

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 15:09

but WHY

what is the link?

OP posts:
ReturnOfTheBoomBap · 10/02/2011 15:13

Why are they better?

They aren't beauticians. They aren't trying to emanate professionalism or create a 'spa experience'.

In, out, do yer nails, cash in hand thank you very much = the bish bash bosh approach. It works because we are busy and need to have our nails done too regularly to want to engage in pampering sessions and chitchat every time we visit a salon.

Love it, personally.

Rannaldini · 10/02/2011 15:27

i get mine done at beauty training place

v good and not so acrylic stinky
which i like btw

our korean nail place does those fabbo pedicures with the american massage chairs and proper take your foot off scrubbing
all £25 or £27.50 for benidorm polish

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 15:32

no, why do vietnamese do nails?

OP posts:
Rannaldini · 10/02/2011 15:36

kept within community?
koreans in norn iron

LaBellaSantaCaterinadiSiena · 10/02/2011 15:40

There are 3 SE Asian nail bars in my town. Got a french manicure for £10 (though the white was sprayed on).

I do get a little nervous by the fact they wear masks though..

catinboots · 10/02/2011 16:23

I love them. Been going to the same one for 6 years.

The guy who does my nails was a doctor in Vietam, He earns more money doing nails here than he did practising medicine in Vietnam Shock

teenyweenytadpole · 10/02/2011 16:27

Nail bars?? Sorry but that is just so very far from my own personal reality. Round here the only people who get their nails done are horses.

HeroShrew · 10/02/2011 16:27

I get acrylic tips as my natural nails are thinner than paper. Get them really short and in a snappy shade (currently Weimeraner grey) so not too blingarama. They're as hard as iron. Breadmaking? Pah - I've used them in place of a screwdriver before and they remain unscathed. better than a swiss army knife.

HeroShrew · 10/02/2011 16:28

Has anyone seen that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine takes a covert translator in with her to her local Korean nail bar? I think of that every time I'm in. Grin

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 16:31

lol

no what happenes?

OP posts:
DrSpechemin · 10/02/2011 16:36

in many cases, not all, the link is related to drugs, illegal immigration and money laundering.

AbsDuCroissant · 10/02/2011 16:45

I know that episode Hero Grin

Very funny

Does anyone know of any in London? I've seen one in Brixton, but cannae be bothered going all the way down there.

NarcolepsyQueen · 10/02/2011 16:53

I went to one today Grin. Spa pericure with french polish on my tootsies (£25) and fingernail file and french polish (not spray) for £8. Bargainalicious. I am told my toes look fab (I am sooo pregnant I cant see my toes!)

They even put lovely little gems on your big toe in the summer!

lololizzy · 10/02/2011 17:05

mine is either Vietnamese or Cambodian i think...not entirely sure as they don't speak!! which i love...no chats about hols, as you say!!
Only £18 to have gel overlays redone. So i never, ever have chipping polish. Am going tomorrow.
They are soooo quick and efficient..probably because they are not filling time with inane chatter!

AbsDuCroissant · 10/02/2011 17:17

How do you find these places? I want my nails done without the inane chit chat. It's like the waxing people - I hate having to try and come up with chit chat when having someone weilding hot wax near my delicate bits

malovitt · 10/02/2011 17:25

AbsDuCroissant - there's a good one in Kentish Town, their pedicures last for ages.

traceybath · 10/02/2011 17:25

Don't think we've got any in Bath - still silly £££ to get nails done here.
