KEW is so disappointing now

%-6 years back I used to go to Kew and try to stop spending.

I received the catalogue yesterday and went to the shop, andit's hopeless.

it all looks distinctly middle aged- or skirts are so short they are like belts.

Summer dresses are over £100 for silk- and they used to be the poor person's Jigsaw.
Or is this just me?

Totally agree, boring styles and boring colours. Used to buy a few things every season but its been 2 years since Ive found ANYTHING I like/feel like paying over the odds for! Shame

wendihouse22 · 05/02/2011 18:41

I've bought a few nice things recently but.....I'm 48.

Probably says it all.

MrsGrahamBellForTheSkiSeason · 05/02/2011 19:20

Agree, I buy a lot of clothes from lots of places. There is a Kew a five minute walk from me but I look in the window every time I pass wondering if there will be anything inspiring.. there never is anything that makes me want to go inSad

Emo76 · 05/02/2011 19:21

I think the colours in there always look washed out

AntPants1 · 05/02/2011 19:40

Really?

I always manage to get some lovely things each season from Kew. I have just bought this top

www.kew-online.com/fcp/product/womens-clothing/t-shirts-&-tops/Stripe-Scoop-Top/99902791

I am lusting after this top www.kew-online.com/fcp/product/womens-clothing/t-shirts-&-tops/Cotton-Voile-Fan-Top/99902473

Am also lusting after the beaded t bar sandals and beaded gre y cardigan- which I can't link to yet as not available on wen site yet - but in " coming soon" tab.

They always do great linen trousers and dresses for the summer and this winter I have lived in their jersey dresses www.kew-online.com/fcp/product/womens-clothing/dresses/Pleat-Front-Dress/99902060 they are really flattering and easy to wear with boots.

Have another look...!

I am 37 and have no links with Kew btw!!

cabbageroses · 05/02/2011 19:52

I like the sandals you mention and have 2 pairs of the linen trousers, but they are nothing special- you canbuy the same anywhere ( trousers)

The cardi is nice but i got a ery simialr one in Boden sale..

Boring boring boring now. And I'm nearly 47 so their target market. My kids have just realised it's not called Ken - sign looks as though it is!

lotty5 · 06/02/2011 09:15

I also had to stop myself buying huge amounts of clothing from Kew a few years ago . Prices have increased dramatically in the last year.
Although I bought several pleat front dresses for work in the Autumn, which are very flattering, but they had a £10 off promotion weekend. Have not received my catalogue yet

cybbo · 06/02/2011 09:22

I agree the catalogue is BORING

Looks very very middle aged, I'm talking 60+

there was one linen dress towards the back I liked

and one striped scarf

Not good

ValiumSandwichTime · 06/02/2011 09:26

Just bought this dress in bordeaux on line and it should be really slimming but it's not for some reason. Maybe it'd be ok with dark tights and boots. PUt it in the back of the wardrobe for dinner one wintery night out.

cabbageroses · 06/02/2011 09:32

That dress is typical of the Kew maternity style- doesn't do anything for me as I am short and a size 10- they just make me look PG.

OP posts:
ValiumSandwichTime · 06/02/2011 09:37

yupppppp i'm short and size ten.

ValiumSandwichTime · 06/02/2011 09:38

ps, I'm not pregnant btw! and I have a flat tummy (or flat enought that I'm happy with it)

KristinaM · 06/02/2011 09:44

Is it really targeting at 40 somethimgs? Last season i tried on loads of things and bought nothing, it all seemed a bit frumpy and boring to me. And I am 48

cabbageroses · 06/02/2011 10:11

I don't know who they are targeting.
I used to like them for the natural fabrics, lovely colours and slightly bohemian styles.

The prices are ££££££.

I admit having looked at the website there are a couple of cardis that look nice, but they are £60-ish.

I am 50s, but would say my dress style is mid 40s as I am petite and people do think I am much younger than I am.....

I hope they have some nice summer stuff.

GeorginaWorsley · 06/02/2011 11:37

I occasionally buy a cardigan or tee shirt from them, have to say the ones I have had have lasted and washed well.
Dresses I agree are £££,I prefer Great Plains,Warehouse or Oasis for dresses.

Helzapoppin · 06/02/2011 12:06

I am pregnant...it's the first time i've worn my Kew frock (jersey, navy, drapey) since I bought it 2 years ago. I live in it now!

Actually it's the second time. The first time, someone mistook me for being pregnant (not good!)

higgle · 06/02/2011 12:30

All the clothes around at the moment seem to be very disapointing. I think it is because the seasons are now so out of kilter, we should be having sales in January, not December. There is this huge lacuna where we don't really want to buy summer clothes yet but all there is in the shops is the last dregs of the sales and some wishy washy non style dross of tentative feelers by clothes shops to work out what will sell later on. And don't get me started on how expensive it is. In the autumn I thought I'd convert to Jigsaw as my shop of choice, having seen the prices of the new arrivals I think that is highly unlikely. Think I'll just give up entirely and go vintage/ebay!

is crew the american one? michele obama shops from them? she dresses well. haven't seen a crew catalogue.

cabbageroses · 06/02/2011 15:34

Higgle- I agree that Jigsaw is gettng out of my league too re. prices. If I saw something really special I'd buy but I'd have to love it.

OP posts:
cabbageroses · 06/02/2011 15:35

Crew is not American- it's very English- think a cross between Joules and Toast!

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 06/02/2011 16:23

Valium you are thinking of J Crewe maybe? Michelle Obama wears a lot of their stuff

cyrilsneer · 06/02/2011 16:38

I used to love Kew but have found it all a bit drab in recent years.

I also used to be absolutely guaranteed to always find something in Jigsaw but struggle to find things these days - their dresses often seem to be depressingly unflattering on me.

I do love clothes and, in principal, I love shopping but I do think I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find the right stuff for me.

I'm 44.

alemci · 06/02/2011 16:47

also i don't think the quality is great for the prices they charge.
