Comfortable as Clarks....but less frumpy!?

I have crap feet from years of wearing cheap ballet pumps on concrete floors and now the only shoes I can wear are Clarks, the ones with really cushioned soles and arch support. I have tried expensive insoles (£35!!) in other shoes which work ok but want to find some comfortable shoes which are a bit more interesting and stylish than boring old Clarks!
Anyone know any brands/shops?
I'm only 29 and own far too many pairs of Clarks shoes already!

Fly!!!

Fimbo · 28/01/2011 17:02

My friend has a few different styles of \link{http://www.hushpuppies.com/UK/en-GB/Product.mvc.aspx/W-CAS/23120W/0/Womens/Categories/Flats-and-Pumps/Womens/Arlene\this} type of shoe. They look rubbish on the website, much nicer in rl. They are very very padded inside and my friend says it is like walking in slippers. You can buy them in Schuh.

wendihouse22 · 28/01/2011 17:05

MBT's? They look pretty clumpy but they are comfy. Fit-flop do cushiony boots as part of their range too.

I'd go to somewhere like maybe, John Lewis, see what they've got?

I cannot walk at all in heels. Too many years at ballet school as a child. I used to have them injected with steroid at age 12.....(probably counts as child abuse nowadays) just to keep us in our point shoes! Happy days.

Hmm...Hush Puppies, I would try some on before ruling them out, they do look quite similar to Clarks style shoes.
Thanks though, I hadn't thought of them.

And Fly, I hear so much about! Must go and try some, I think they might be a bit over my budget though....unless there's a sale.

I have Fly's and have gone off them a bit. Don't know why.

plasticface · 28/01/2011 17:08

I can't even stand up in heels. My arches are so arched that there is a gap between my feet and the sole and my knees collapse inwards!

Cos everyone goes on about them on here?

Will watch with interest as I too would like proper shoes with proper support but without the HIDEOUSNESS of Clarks black flats.

Fimbo · 28/01/2011 17:10

Fly's wouldn't be any good in that case.

plasticface · 28/01/2011 17:12

Have you tried www.superfeet.co.uk/

Saying that, I do tend to now stick to skirts and knee-high boots rather than try to find decent-looking flats to go with trousers.

munstersmum · 28/01/2011 17:18

Try Pavers. Some yuk but some not bad if you ferret.

plasticface · 28/01/2011 17:19

Anyone know if these are comfortable?

Have you seen Shoon
? They do all sorts of interesting but comfortable looking shoes. Also if there is a branch of Mastershoe near you they have lots of nice flats, boots and clumpy shoes too.

polyhymnia · 28/01/2011 17:39

Geox, an Italian company have some nice comfortable but prety/ quirky flats, if you pick and choose. But not that easy to find except in London, where there are 3 shops.

polyhymnia · 28/01/2011 17:43

Having said that, just looked on their website (which you can't buy from) and they do look a bit frumpy. But have got several pairs of flats in their French and Italian shops over last few years which have been super-comfortable and much admired.

If you want to see something that is truly frumpy, google Hotter !

pippop1 · 28/01/2011 17:55

Stonefly? Italian and hard to find but can get them online with free returns.

sh77 · 28/01/2011 19:35

I second Camper.

soppypreggyloon · 28/01/2011 19:46

Hopping on thread as I too love comfy but hate frumpy.

plasticface those blowfish boots do look good. The reviews seem to suggest comfort. At that price I'm very tempted! :)

bebespain · 28/01/2011 21:01

I third Camper. Do a search for them on Amazon, their prices are unbeatable

bebespain · 28/01/2011 21:05

Although I think that the Clarks UNstructured range is pretty hard to beat comfort wise and the patent models are unfrumpy Grin

TigerseyeMum · 28/01/2011 22:06

I can only wear Clarks and some styles are not frumpy I also wear Rocket dog, Jones and trainers, nothing else fits well enough.

I once walked 5 miles in a blizzard in my Clarks wedge heels and they are still going strong! Anything else and I would have been done for!

Yogamummy1 · 29/01/2011 06:48

Dr Martins (DM) have made a bit of a comeback. I bought a really cute pair of DM boots for £79 from schuh which I have not had off my feet since - they are more comfy than bare foot, they look nice with leggings, skinnys and also with a cute dress and tights. I also fourth Camper!
