Hi there
Just to say that the treatment doesn't need to be left on for 20mins (or any longer). The hair can be straightened straight after it is applied. The reason that salons (and manufacturers) make out it does is so they can deal with several clients at once. This is generally true for all treatments (except for colours which need time to develop.)
Hope that helps

I am really tempted to have this done too. One question to those you have had this done - I have curly hair but can straigten it with ghd's and its looks great - however, by the time I have done the school run and walked to work (about total of 45 minutes outside) my hair looks terrible, sides have flicked up and gone frizzy - are you saying that I would still look good when I arrived at work?

Monadami · 26/01/2011 22:14

I've been looking at various tutorials on Youtube and it looks really simple to do, so might purchase the products and do it myself.

sweetheart · 27/01/2011 15:15

I bought some stuff off Ebay and it arrived today so I plan on trying it tonight. I'll report back to let any of you thinking of doing it know what it turned out like - ekkk, wish me luck!

There seems to be many brands for the Brazilian Blow Dry product. Are they all the same or are some better than others?

merlin · 29/01/2011 15:37

A week on and 3/4 washes - still sleek and smooth!!!!

oops sorry, haven't been on in a while.

Doing it yourself is very easy, but use gloves when putting the solution on & also make sure you have a window open & are close by it because the solution smells when drying hair & using the straightners.

This is the one I used Brazilian Blow Dry

lovingthesun · 30/01/2011 20:28

..use gloves because otherwise your hands are very dry afterwards.

Can I ask everyone what the general condition of your hair was pre and post treatment

Am thinking about doing this with a friend.

merlin · 01/02/2011 16:29

Still looking lovely! I've had so many people comment on my hair - definitely worth it!

are you not aware that thee is huge controversy about these treatments in the States as it is believed that contrary to what they promise, the treatments contacin serious chemicals similar to formaldehyde that are cancer causing. Please google for information on teh web -some of it is scary!

HotSauceCommittee · 02/05/2014 10:24

Haven't read the whole thread, but our local beauty college charges £49 for the Brazilian blow dry instead of £200 at a normal salon. The students are fully supervised, apparently, so I'm going to try it next week.

I also bought the Keratin Kits one off Amazon and overall, I'm very happy with it.

It does take a long time to do, especially if you've got long, thick hair like mine. Also, the fumes that come off it when you dry are really really strong. Makes your eyes water, so definitely open all the windows and don't put eye make up on beforehand. Don't do it if you're pregnant or have young children in the house. I think I'll dry mine outside next time actually. It doesn't contain formaldehyde, so it's considered safe. It does contain a lot of chemicals, but what doesn't?...

Last down side, is that it does make your hair a little greasier. I have to wash my hair a little more than before. Certainly a fair bit more in the first couple of weeks, but then it settles down a bit after that.....for me anyway.

Overall though, it's worth it. It used to take me over an hour to dry and straighten my hair. Now it's 5 minutes with the hairdryer, or nothing at all.

Also, I would add, it's more of a smoothing treatment as apposed to a straightening. It does take a fair bit of the curl/wave out, but not 100%, which was good for me, cos I would have to have flat, poker straight hair.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 02/05/2014 13:35

I am a bit concerned about the use of formaldeyde in the treatment which is why I haven't had it done. My SIL had it done before Christmas & it looks good but her hair is naturally poker straight so I don't understand why she had it done.

Diamonds, this one doesn't contain any formaldehyde. If it did, I wouldn't use it.
