Maternity jeans? and other top mat clothes

Flum · 06/10/2005 23:26

right, I'm starting early as wasted a bit of money on cr*p stuff last time.

Where should I buy a great, flattering pair of maternity jeans (I'm a size 14 - 16)

also other clothes. where do you recommend

Last time:

H&M - bought a lot, it really was disposable tat, and all rubbish except the t-shirts.

Mothercare - OK but a bit M&S-ish.

Blooming Marvellous - Didn't like much, poorly made and didn't fit too much.

Formes - Loved it but could only afford one outfit. couldn't really afford that but got it anyway. Still got it and looking forward to wearing it again, v. flattering.

Anyone recently finished with any? Not due till June 06 so would be looking for Spring/Autumn ish typey clothes. Maybe winter. Will buy or accept donations. ta ladeeeeeeeeeeez

mothercare's a bit better than when I was pg with DS in 2003/4 (different length trousers and some nice tops), but my best buy have been some black trousers with a peculiar roll-top waistband from Next - £16.99. They're stretchy, comfy and I love them! And they wash well and dry really quickly.

And COGNRATULATIONS - didn't know there was a mini-Flum on the way till this post

startingtobehalloweenylover · 06/10/2005 23:29

i got great jeans from dorothy perkins
i was a size 14 pre-pregnancy but their jeans are HUGE and i ended up with a size 10!!!

fitted me to the end when i was maaaaaaaassive

hunkerpumpkin · 06/10/2005 23:30

Or CONGRATULATIONS, even...

Flum · 06/10/2005 23:31

didn't know myself til this week. I'm only about 10 minutes pregnant , could all end in tears, but heres hoping not eh.

Obviously the most important thing to get organised is
THE wardrobe.

Will try Next.

heard Top Shop do maternity now, pretty excited about that, almost worth getting up the duff for

are you hunkermunker.

everyone has new posho names its confusing, for ordinary me

my most flattering pair of maternity jeans came from next, but they didn't make it all the way to the end as didn't expand enough even for me, i'm normally a 12 and bump wasn't massive either.

hunkerpumpkin · 06/10/2005 23:32

I am hunkermunker (always want to put "hear me roar" after that... Usually stop myself ).

And yes, it's absolutely the most important thing to organise - especially with second and subsequent babies where maternity becomes all you can fit into when you're about 20 minutes pregnant

Trickorflum · 06/10/2005 23:34

ha hum, adjusts name to suit seasonal changes, {wriggles to shake and see if it fits}.

hunkerpumpkin · 06/10/2005 23:34

My jeans didn't go all the way to the end of my pg last time either - they were from Blooming Marvellous (one side panel pair that fit beautifully, one stretchy bump pair that fit when I got bigger, but not to the end).

The black stretchy trousers they do are nice too, but more expensive than the Next ones. Don't get the pinstripe Next ones - they bobble (advice from another thread on here recently ).

hunkerpumpkin · 06/10/2005 23:34

Like it!

Trickorflum · 06/10/2005 23:36

Heres a secret. I have worn my Formes stuff on and off since having dd. It is v. flattering even when not pregnant.

hunkerpumpkin · 06/10/2005 23:42

I'm considering wearing the black trousers for some time afterwards too

Heck, why not? If it fits, and it looks nice Just don't tell Cod, she'd look like this

dramaqueen72 · 07/10/2005 00:11

flum, have just outgrown some early maternity stuff, (i'm 29wks and in my 'last few things that do up' stage........) so will look it out tomorrow and see if you fancy any of it before it hits ebay. we are the same pre-pg size.
suggest seraphine jeans for early to mid pg as fabulous looking. and, i'm hoping, useful for after birth too.
hth and will find you tomorrow with list of stuff i have.......

Trickorflum · 07/10/2005 07:17

Cool Dramaqueen. I love buying peoples cast offs bu=ecause then you don't feel guilty if you end up Oxfaming it coz it didn't cost a fortune. Especially if it is quite you know in fashion ish.

Cod only wears scales anyway. She did mention she had some sparkly scales with sequins for parties but apart from that its every day scales.

Forms doesn't count as maternity because everything 'gives' so looks great on svelt me too.

i got some nice under the bump jeans from next but they were quite expensive so i'm hoping they'll last all the way through and be ebayable at the end. also got some nice cropped jeans from pumpkin patch which are also under the bump and also stretch denim. not quite as expensive as next. h&m is good for cheap stretchy tops. i think the top shop range is available online if you wanted to look at it and see what they have to offer.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 07/10/2005 08:07

Flum, you can have some of mine if you like. I am 14/16, due in mid November so I will be finished with them by December. I have a few nice things - a pair of jeans from Blooming Marvellous etc.
I bought a lot of things from H&M Big and Beautiful range - better choice than the Maternity range. Cheap and disposable and useful for afterwards.
where are you btw?

Stilltrue · 07/10/2005 12:57

Can you get Gap maternity over here? I agree that Formes stuff is great, but too expensive for more than one or two items. I'm not pregnant, but had my 4th baby nearly 2 years ago. Someone you could try is Harry Duley (try googling because I no longer have her details). She makes stretchy casual clothes, also clothes for young children I think. I still wear a pair of her slouchy black trousers in the evenings when slobbing about on here!

orangina · 07/10/2005 13:18

top shop maternity jeans fab, lived in mine the whole way through.... and I thought H&M were good for the throw away t-shirts but not much else. I also bought some gap maternity stuff on e-bay... bought a package of stuff, 1/2 of it horrid, but the other 1/2 great, still a bargain even with p&p... formes lovely but cut for skinny no-arse french ladies i think, ditto some of the seraphine things too....
Bought lots of top shop empire line trendy non-maternity stuff last year too, just a few sizes up to accommodate (relatively) giant bosom ...

TheRtHonBaronessEnidOBE · 07/10/2005 13:19

cupcakes · 07/10/2005 13:33

congrats, Enid. That news passed me by.
Am being v sad and watching the maternity clothes threads in the hope that'll be me too. I intend to do Gap from ebay with Topshop and a few specially selected Formes and Isabella Oliver pieces.
Just need to get pregnant!
