Boden is so disappointing this season

I am not a HUGE Boden fan, but each season i will buy 2-3 staples such as knitwear, trousers and maybe a coat. No applique or fun anything.

This catalogue is awful.
I have ordered a pair of summer trousers and a mac.

The skirts, dresses, Ts, knitwear etc is awful- sme as previous seasons, or horrible colours, or just frumpy.

Sorry for another slagging offf Boden post, but often i covet something and wait until the sales- this time there is nothing i want.

i think they have become predictable and stale.

The mac is nice, but I can't find anything else.

They usually add things mid-season, so I gues we'll have to wait.

Childrenswear is lovely and colourful though.

Lulumaam · 20/01/2011 21:02

I've ordered a relaxed tunic in the navy /white print. I might get another, but feel it is £££ for what it is.

I ordered the strappy espadrilles, but they are going back, far, far too narrow, and i have average sized feet

agree lots of the t shirts etc, the staples, are frumpy prints and also, too short. i want something top of thigh lenght, not mid hip

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 20/01/2011 21:07

Agree - I'll occasionally buy a few bits and pieces, but this season felt as if I was looking at an overpriced BHS catalogue

Meggles76 · 20/01/2011 21:17

Actually, I have been rather pleased with my new season purchases Blush

Got a couple of the long sleeve scoop necks which are much better quality than I thought they would be. Not terribly exciting but good wardrobe staples for spring.

Also got the ruffle vest which I love. Expensive for a vest even with my 20% off but it will wash and wear well.

Linen Tunic in Taupe also nice if a little thin.

The only thing I am sending back is the breton top. The material is thin and the cut unflattering.

Am tempted by the ivory tie front cardi, the black silk dress, the leopard gladiators and the tan slouch bag.

FaffTastic · 20/01/2011 21:57

Boden is disappointing EVERY Season Grin

higgle · 20/01/2011 23:10

Has anyone got the linen laundered blazer? quite fancy a blue one but it is a bit £££.

The only other thing I fancied was a pair of straight legged cotton trousers. I have seen nicer and probably better made tops in Matalan and Next £16 - 18 max. It really is ludicrous to be asked for getting on for £30 for a T shirt.

SlowComfortableShrew · 21/01/2011 08:54

I think they are aiming at the baby boomers per una market as they think they are the only people who have any money this season.

cabbageroses · 21/01/2011 09:00

keep telling me about narrow shoes then as my feet are v narrow and finding shoes is a nightmare!

OP posts:
hattymattie · 21/01/2011 09:53

[Higgle] - I've got the washed laundered blazer - it is a bit high waisted (I don't normally have this problem with clothes). I find if I take of the belt the waist problem disappears so I'll be cutting off the belt loops. The jacket is cut very short and the lining doesn't go into the arms. All that said I think I'm keeping mine as the overall look is nice and I wanted something I could just sling on in summer.

By the way I'm a slim 12-14 - I've sized up to 14 because I've wide shoulders.

hattymattie · 21/01/2011 09:56

Higgle - sorry the above was for you made a mistake with brackets instead of stars. I should add that the blazer (as with all boden) is expensive for what it is.

polyhymnia · 21/01/2011 11:15

slowcomfortable, as a babyboomer, I honestly can't think who the Per Una range is aimed at! It seems to have lost its way entirely. It surely can't appeal to younger women and poor old Twiggy - another babyboomer - often has to model Per Una clothes (though I'm sure is well paid for it).

But taste isn't just a matter of age and I don't think Per Una should be used as shorthand for all babyboomers. I and my friends certainly wouldn't go for their generally rather bizarre, frumpy, and garish clothes! I think Portfolio must also be aimed by M and S at 'babyboomers' but can't bear that range either - always has a frumpy touch to it. I'm an Autograph fan - none of the other ranges tempt me (except some Limited Edition pieces).

As for Boden, I always buy a few pieces, because there are some good basics there if you choose with care. But, even though I never pay full price, agree a lot of their things over-priced for what they are.

Emo76 · 21/01/2011 12:09

Got a hat for my baby from the miniboden baby range and it is made of the thinnest fabric imaginable - like they looked for the cheapest thinnest cotton especially for it! Shame as it is nice colours and I like the velcro under chin strap.

Deaddei · 21/01/2011 13:32

I went to the Walton shop today and was very disappointed.
I have never bought anything from Boden before, but had seen a couple of things in the catalogue which looked ok.
Everything was very colourful and jolly, but I was not impressed with the quality.
Some of the jersey dresses almost see-through in plain colours.
Didn't't buy anything, but did get a couple of basic jersey tops in HObbs. Fantastic service from the new manager there. Feel like telling Mary.

iwilldothis · 21/01/2011 13:57

meggles if you are still looking for a breton top, GAP have lots of lovely ones. I had been going to order a Boden one (glad I didn't now) but found lovely (and cheaper) ones in GAP. I got mine for ?12.95....they had a few styles and colours to choose from....hope that helps :)

CockneySparra · 21/01/2011 14:01

Hideous this season. It's been getting progressively more expensive, more bonkers and less a brand I would buy season by seaspn forthe last two years-ish I think. Shame.

not1not2 · 21/01/2011 14:23

I bought a childs dress from there in the last season sale and it is of the lowest quality imaginable I was astounded anyone could recommend it and would have been horrified if I'd paid top wack for it.

I had seen loads od girls in the lovely hotchpotch dresses which look really think and kind of denimy so thought I'd give it a whorl!!

not1not2 · 21/01/2011 14:23

whirl!!

BCBG · 21/01/2011 14:31

I have known Boden since Johnny produced his first mens leaflet and hawked in round a few of his friends in the city. I haven't changed (apart from the odd crease) Grin but his clothes have. The quality is appalling compared to over 5 years ago and they often smell and look like they've been folded in some scuzzy low rent garment sweatshop and left lying around in cardboard boxes: the sort of garment that you wouldn't think twice about leaving if you saw it on a Market stall as opposed to a Boden catalogue. trouble is, I have said it more than once to them but nobody listens. I guess as each of us stops buying another sucker comes along to try it.

SlowComfortableShrew · 21/01/2011 14:54

No offence intended to stylish baby boomers! My mum, born 1948, tends to hoover up most of the per una range each season. Suits me though, as I sure as hell don't want her shopping in the same shops as me!

polyhymnia · 21/01/2011 16:01

No offence taken - obviously a lot of people like Per Una, as your mother does, or it wouldn't keep going. Just wouldn't want anyone to think all babyboomers are fans!!

pirateparty · 21/01/2011 16:11

Meggles76 can I be cheeky and ask what your 20% off code is please?

I agree that some of the patterns aren't so nice this year and definitely leaning towards frumpy rather than funky, but I always end up with a few nice bits and bobs from Boden. I did however end up sending a huge amount back last season because of the quality - esp some of the plainer tops which were see-through.

I am mightily annoyed there are no nice wrap dresses this season - I really don't like any of the patterns.

On the other hand, I can always find things for my DS. I still think most of their children's clothes are fab, and a good choice and range. I really struggle to find things I like for him in the usual high street shops, which have such a limited range for boys and are all so samey.

Meggles76 · 21/01/2011 21:09

Thanks iwilldothis... will check out GAP version and sounds like a fraction of the price of Boden.

Pirateparty - I ordered the items on preview so the 20% code is no longer valid. I think there is a 15% one floating round on here somewhere. Personally am hoping a £10 off when you spend £30 will turn up soon.

Parsgirl · 22/01/2011 07:22

LN9Q is the 15% off code if that helps.

noddyholder · 22/01/2011 08:13

hideous all the time

pirateparty · 22/01/2011 17:44

Thanks Parsgirl, and Meggles76 for replying
