designer jeans for short people

GeorgeEliot · 16/01/2011 16:21

I have always hankered after a pair of Seven, or similar, designer jeans - but being only 5' 4" (and a size 12/14) have never managed to try on a pair that wasn't way too long. So I always end up buying Per Una Roma bootcut jeans which are a good, flattering fit on my typically English middle-aged body. But boring.

Longing for something a bit more glamorous and flattering.

Please can someone give me some helpful advice - don't mind paying quite a lot as I wear jeans to work every day so the cost-per-wear would be quite low.

Thanks.

Because I think they never look as good if they have been shortened, and if you are buying a bootcut the flare hits at the wrong place on your leg anyway. If I am spending £££ on a pair of nice jeans I want them to fit right from the start.

:o

I thought 5ft 4 was average?! I have no chance then as I'm 5ft 1 with sort legs!

ValiumSilverTongue · 16/01/2011 16:31

There were some good websites linked recently where you could select your own customised jeans. You have to measure every single bit of yourself!! but you get to choose colour, cut, pocket designs, 'rise' and a few other details... maybe seams? I can't rmember, but I would love to do it.

ValiumSilverTongue · 16/01/2011 16:32

ps, don't the 32" leg jeans from Oasis fit you perfectly? thought they were great for five foot four people.

GeorgeEliot · 16/01/2011 16:32

You are right dotty it is average - so I don't really get why expensive jeans are always so long in the leg.

I think you'll find that quite a few designer jeans make petite versions of their bootcut styles - I know Paige does, and seven for all mankind - not sure who else.

GeorgeEliot · 16/01/2011 16:55

where can I go to try on - don't like to buy jeans online?

Is that right, seven?

The model in your link is 5ft 9 - there's no way those jeans are 27" leg. I think she's a size 8 they're talking about waist size aren't they?

faustina · 16/01/2011 17:18

why not try somewhere like selfridges, where they have all the different names. You could get a personal shopper type thing perhaps.

or this place:

www.donnaida.com/

I think they do a stylist session there

Seven - Where do you buy jeans out of interest. Like you, I'm around 5ft 2 and I think out of proportion :( It's very very difficult getting right lengths and as posted above, shortening them just alters the cut, especially bootcut jeans which seem to flatter us vertically challenged.

I'm more like a 27 - 28inch inside leg, that's why I was interested in your link.

imustbemadasaboxoffrogs · 16/01/2011 18:05

I have the same problem, I'm a size 10/12, 5ft2 with a fat arse and big thighs.

The only jeans that seem to fit are Per Una and I feel like my mother.

And taking a foot off the bottom of jeans just ruins the looks.

higgle · 16/01/2011 18:21

Next Petite are the only ones that are the right proportions on me - and I really don't want to wear Next stuff!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/01/2011 18:26

Designers at Debenhams - Jasper Conran, John Rocha etc. Some of them do shorter versions. Gap have ones where you have to go for the "A" version, which I think are the shorter ones - A being for Ankle.

GeorgeEliot · 16/01/2011 18:28

Glad to see there are so many others out there who seem to share my problem. If Per Una can make jeans which fit us 'average' ladies why can't the posher brands? Even some variation in leg length would be good.

Would love to try the Selfridges service but am out in the sticks and don't get to london that often.

So agree about not wanting to wear anything from Next, ever again.

I have a 29.5" inside leg and I get mine taken up by the dry cleaner (Johnsons). They do a good job :)

FreeButtonBee · 16/01/2011 18:35

I just get them taken up. Am 5'2

If you go to a good tailor then they will match the thread and weighting on the hem to the original jeans, rather rhan just turning up any old way.

I don't really wear bootcut jeans any more which i suppose might be more affected by a turnuo. With straught leg i don't find that turning them up affects the look; ditto with boyfriend cut. I don't wear skinny as am too fat of thigh.

nicole333 · 16/01/2011 18:45

I am vertically challenged and have a few pairs of Seven for all mankind now. I'm hour glass shape and find their 'A' pocket style the best for that or the Dojo's.

It takes a lot of time and effort to find the right pair, but you can find them. Their Lexie range is the petite range and come in an array of different cuts and styles. Have a look around on the net and see who'll offer a returns service if they don't fit right.

I found some Lexie Dojo's on yoox.com and there is no way I'm going to get into them now I've discovered carbs again! Too late to send them back though.
Ebay is my friend for these jeans now and you can get help with authenticity checks from an american forum if you just post pics from the auction. It's www.authenticforum.com

I am a jeans addict and love my 7FAM

Good luck

I second Topshop, they do a 30" length which is ideal for people like me who are short but too long of leg for petites and can't be arsed getting jeans altered. They are NOT just for skinny/young types either, I have never been the former and am no longer the latter and they still fit the best of any jeans I've tried. They wash and wear very well too, my 2005 Baxters are still going strong (or they will when I fit back into them!)
