If not Liz Earle C&P then what?

OhCobblers · 04/01/2011 10:41

i've just realised that the spot outbreak i had over Xmas (excellent timing Hmm) is more than likely due to the Cleanse and Polish i started using again on a daily basis.

Bit of a bore as was given a new stash for Xmas which i'll now have to ebay.

I do like the muslin cloth part of the routine so if i don't use Liz Earle could you recommend something else?

I've previously used various Clarins cleansers which have been fine but if there are cheaper alternatives then even better Smile. I do have quite dry, sensitive skin if that helps?!

TIA

Boots no 7 do something similar which has had good reviews but I've not used it personally.

Decleor have a new one out that I am desperate to try but got older stuff needing used first!

Scootergrrrl · 04/01/2011 11:17

I use the Waitrose baby bottom butter and then the whole muslin cloth/hot water bit of the Liz Earle routine. Much cheaper!

alemci · 04/01/2011 11:26

the sanctuary do one which is good. still relatively expensive but worth a look. it is in a tube whereas Liz earle one in pump is a bit wasteful.

OhCobblers · 04/01/2011 11:28

thanks Greg
i've not used any No 7 products before. Have you tried anything else in their range out of interest?
The reviews on this product are goog on the Boots site and at that price worth giving it a go!

gregssausageroll · 04/01/2011 11:45

I've not. I can't find anything to beat C&P and Clarins I', afraid. The reviews do look good so it might well be something I try soon. As you say, it is a good price so worth a shot.

polyhymnia · 04/01/2011 12:12

I've always assumed Liz Earle 'borrowed' that whole product concept from Eve Lom, who has been doing a similar (not cheap)cleanser for yonks, from far earlier than LE launched hers.

I'm too lazy to be bothered with the fiddly routine with the cloth myself, so just use an ordinary Clarins cleanser, but Eve Lom certainly has a good reputatiion - I did once have a facial with her, which was fab.

OhCobblers · 04/01/2011 12:35

thanks for Sanctuary suggestion!
GSR and PH - which Clarins product do you use?

Olive oil or Lush Ultrabland cleanser - much cheaper than either and less ingredients to aggravate you if your skin is very sensitive! Both work really well with the muslin cloth method, though I found a soft flannel even better (I am a slave to Philosophy Purity cleanser and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant these days, no cloth required).

polyhymnia · 04/01/2011 12:52

Just use their plain and simple Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs (greenish one, for combination to dry skin). Take it off with a tissue. Seems to do the job, but not the same routine as you're used to with C and P.

cabbageroses · 04/01/2011 13:17

I like L'oreal age perfect cleansing lotion- around £3.99.

I have a sample of hte LE and don't like it- it is so thick that you really drag your face when you remove it.

I also think it has an odd smell.

I think expensive cleansers are a waste of money- they are on your face for 30 seconds most and as long as they remove make up and don't dry your skin then why pay a fortune?

I never buy expensive cleansers- save my cash for a £30-£40 moisturiser which is on my face all day/all night!

gregssausageroll · 04/01/2011 13:20

I use their extra firming products and their tonic and relax bath products.

mermaidspurse · 04/01/2011 15:17

I just came home with the Sanctuary brightening facial, polishing hot cloth cleanser.
Meant to get the No7 one but got swayed by the green box.
Also got the illuminating moisture lotion spf15.

Feels nice, lovely smell. I have been using bodyshop wise woman stuff for ages but they have discontinued it.

OhCobblers · 04/01/2011 17:01

ooh mermaid do update.
will probably get to a Boots tomorrow so will have a look. i've always just Nivea Cream on my face (currently using the Visage one) which i've used on my face most of my life!!
on the website they've got a deal on the Sanctuary stuff - was that instore too do you know (or maybe just online)?

thanks

Tesco bnatural Organic Cream cleanser.
I used LE and did the oil cleansing method and got awful spots.
Tesco one is lovely but not all stores stock it.Its about £4.00 and lasts ages.

cornflower123 · 04/01/2011 19:55

I didn't get on with LE either (and many others before that!). Oil cleaning method works brilliantly for me though, with the LE cloths.

hettie · 04/01/2011 20:10

found the boots one far too cloggy.... can second the tesco one (although they no longer sell it in my branch Sad)

valiumredhead · 05/01/2011 09:29

I had to stop using LE as it was getting too pricey. My skin is REALLY sensitive so was a bit nervous about swapping products. I use Aveeno cream now - from Boots/Superdrug - and I use it like the C and P with the muslin cloth and water. It works exactly the same and even removes waterproof mascara which I wear everyday.

stressedHEmum · 05/01/2011 09:34

Ultrabland from Lush and a warm soft flannel. best cleanser EVER and I say this as someone whose skin is sensitive to almost everything.

aquavit · 05/01/2011 10:41

I use the waitrose bottom butter too, it's a less drippy way of doing OCM since it's basically olive oil and it's great for taking off makeup.

OhCobblers · 05/01/2011 13:34

aquavit i've not done the OCM method before.
how do you do it with bottom butter?
literally apply it and then take off with a muslin cloth?

thanks for all your suggestions so far!

OP posts:
aquavit · 05/01/2011 14:03

Yes, I just smear it on and massage it around a bit, then take it off with very hot water and a muslin, finally splash with cold water. It makes my skin gorgeous Grin but I only do it in the evening, and use a different cleanser in the shower in the am, otherwise I get the odd spot.

UntamedShrew · 05/01/2011 14:07

I use Eve Lom. Not cheap but it is amazing, I've not had a single spot or any excema (I used to get bits near my eyes) since I started using it over a year ago.

K8HB · 05/01/2011 16:12

Dermalogica is always a good one to fall back on and they have one for sensitive skin but it might be your moisturiser isn't right as opposed to the Liz Earle cleanser? So many products so little time!

pollyblue · 05/01/2011 19:32

Ponds cold cream. Massage small amount in and remove with slightly damp, warm cloth. Excellent stuff.
