What Shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I have coloured hair. My scalp can be very scaly and dry but have greasy hair, need to wash every day.
I used to just avoid washing too often as i had long hair and by wearing it up and using dry shampoo managed fine.

I have a short bob now, so i am washing every day and my poor scalp is in tatters.

Have been reccomended WEN by a friend, also aveda but wanted to canvass opinion before investing in either as bith are pricey.

Cheers

At the moment I am using Paul Mitchell.

thenightsky · 31/12/2010 21:03

Hmm... you have same hair history as me.

I use Aussie volume stuff, with t-gel or head and shoulders every 3rd or 4th wash to keep dandruff at bay.

Lucyintheskywithdiazepam · 31/12/2010 21:06

Similar scalp problems here. I generally use Aveda Shampure and T-Gel evey now and then if my scalp gets worse...usually just after colouring.

traceybath · 31/12/2010 21:07

I use this shampoo as recommended by Hells on another thread.

Its fab.

I have similar hair to yours and don't use conditioner just a heat protecting spray before drying/straightening.

Its expensive but because of the pump action lasts for ages.

deaddei · 31/12/2010 21:08

Aveda.

raindroprhyme · 31/12/2010 21:13

cheers guys.
actual hair is in very good condition just need something gentle for my head i think.
Even using t-gel once week makes no difference now.
aveda seems to be the way forward.
Anyone used WEN?

Haven't tried wen but didn't get on with aveda at all but mostly because I don't like the smell of them.

Do try kerastase if aveda doesn't work out.

Honeymum · 31/12/2010 21:24

Daniel Galvin Junior from Waitrose. Recommended by my hairdresser and is fab and cheap (£5).

Honeymum · 31/12/2010 21:27

And my hair is fine/coloured though I have a lot of it.

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/12/2010 21:27

I started a thread on here asking for advice on the best haircare range and was recommended Joico by several MNers. It's fantastic...

Carrotsandcelery · 31/12/2010 21:29

I use Nioxin which is supposed to be good for your scalp and to stimulate healthy hair growth. There are different numbers depending on hair needs. It is expensive but lasts really well.

AliBellandthe40jingles · 31/12/2010 21:33

Belle I'm glad you like it - I was one of your recommenders Grin

OP - definitely consider using T-gel once a week, there are different formulations, some of which are specifically for greasy hair with a flakey scalp.
Do you take a fish-oil supplement? I have really found that helpful in sorting out my scalp and my hair becoming less greasy and now I just use a normal shampoo and conditioner (Joico).

Watersign76 · 31/12/2010 21:46

I have suffered with dandruff from my early teens. I used to use T-Gel every few washes to keep it under control, but HATED how it smells.

I then got my hair cut somewhere that used Phyto Phytheol shampoo and it changed my life!

Their dandruff maintenance shampoo is excellent and I use every day and it doesn?t really smell. They also do a uber ?get rid of dandruff? shampoo version which you can use to bring it under control, but I find the maintenance is enough if used every day.

It is expensive (as is the way with these things) c£12 a bottle - but I generally order online from here ? bit.ly/enUqbq and order 2 at once to make the postage cheaper. But lots of online places sell it, amazon etc. John Lewis also sell it, as do salons that use it.

I also find I am more careful about only using what I need with expensive products.

I just use whatever conditioner is on offer!

Good luck finding "your answer".

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 31/12/2010 22:01

OJON - buy it from qvc and then if you hate it they do refunds (even if you've used half of it trying to get your hair used to it)

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/12/2010 22:04

AliBelle - I am so grateful for the recommendation. My hair is now fantastic and (how vain am I?) it's made me feel so much more like my old self.

I have just been converted to Aveda shampoo called shampure. Got it online from a beauty shop, got 1 litre for about £20. Massive bottle and little goes a long way. My hair is amazing now!

higgle · 01/01/2011 15:53

Tesco coconut shampoo and conditioner - have not found anything that suits my hair any better for £££

MrsSeanBean · 01/01/2011 17:17

I use Aveda Damage Repair as I have dry (and highlighted) hair. A good conditioner is more worth investing in than a shampoo IMO. If you leave any conditioner on for 20+ mins wrapped ina warm towel the benefits are increased IME.

marriedandlookingforcake · 01/01/2011 17:26

T-Gel therapeutic shampoo every other day because it is the only thing that keeps my scalp psoriosis under control, and VO5 conditioner for dry hair.

eveningprimrose · 02/01/2011 17:44

For me the main thing is to keep changing product - if I use the same thing all the time my hair gets yucky no matter what.

BelligerentGhoul · 02/01/2011 17:50

I tried Aveda for my poor scalp and tbh it wasn't v good. Nice to use and smells yummy but didn't help my scalp at all.

I'm now using Eucerin and it's not bad. TGel stopped working for me. The E45 one was okay too.

traceybath · 02/01/2011 17:55

Chicken - do you like the smell of shampure? I thought it smelled like wee but may have been me . . .
