Did the MNers who weren't going to buy anything in 2010 succeed?

For various reasons I haven't been online much in 2010 - but I do remember around the time I went 'offline' there was a big thread about not buying any more new stuff (other than essentials/ underwear etc) in 2010.

Does anyone remember this - and did anyone succeed?

thank you rip and oooh Smile

cyb can't vouch for the others but I wear my clothes thus:

nursery run x 3 per week
out and about with dc3
evenings out 2-3 times per week
Sat/ Sun day time stuff, usually meeting up with other friends with kids for sunday lunch etc

I do get bored of stuff quickly and tend to ebay/ give away and then get new clothes as I hate clutter.

I do admire people like you with a capsule wardrobe and funky combinations but it's not for me or my temperament.

oh and the occasional work thing/ meeting/ lunch/ launch (I am freelance)

I also find that being well dressed when working from home puts me in a better head space to actually work.

When do I wear my clothes?

Well I have pretty much started from scratch in the last year as lost quite a bit of weight after having DD so literally nothing fitted any more.

But I don't actually have that many clothes - one double wardrobe and a small chest of drawers.

Glad other people like the w&a thread though Smile. And it is a lot more than just clothes that we post about.

I was going to go on a "clothes diet" last year but I didn't last long. However, I've since decided that buying clothes is the one extravagance in an otherwise busy and often stressful life and that I shouldn't deny myself the pleasure.

I've definitely become a more critical shopper and have made fewer shopping mistakes last year. I've become adept at using ebay too and I find it a great way to get rid of buyer's remorse.

I keep an occasional eye on W&A - I find it very enjoyable and witty - but I don't post much at all there as I find it hard to keep up.

I wish you all a fabulously fashionable new year!

ROFL @ capsule wardrobe and funky combinations

Bravo!

Like Tracey - I started from pretty much zero - due to new body shape (weight loss), months of no purchases (stuck on prolonged bedrest) and no taste (unlike tracey) - so I have been very avid to catch up...but a lot has gone back so links are often deceiving. I also have relatively recently been able to afford clothes that I could never even have considered before.

I've learnt huge amounts from the A&W ladies but what I value most is the wonderful wisdom and kindness that ia dosed out every day on the thread.
