I like those shoes, Tracey. I saw a fab leopard print pair in Russell and Bromley.

I am cross with DD, she poured water the Virgin HD box, so no TV for me tonight.

traceybath · 04/01/2011 19:52

Ooooh carciofi - thats annoying. My youngest 2 are both a bit fixated with poiuring water everywhere at the moment too.

MarshaBrady · 04/01/2011 20:11

Thanks for the lovely welcome back Smile!

Vin walk in door, leave luggage, check up on here, feed children... priorities Grin

Apuski I always find it really hard to meld the two. It's so strange going from summer to winter!

Bonsoir more on arms and legs than face (due to sun hat.) I'll have to flash a tanned wrist! Many children travelling to the sun in ds's class. Four to Australia too! I was amazed.

Roary are you back? How was the flight? Smile (watch any good movies? Grin)

VerityBrulee · 04/01/2011 20:41

Carciofi, how annoying about your tv, your dh is home late isn't he? You'll have to spend the evening with MN. Thanks for reminding me about Matches, no joy there, but I'll keep obsessively refreshing an eye on L&L in case of returns.

Sorry about my continued moaning about my water Blush We could be much worse off, just need to plan better as there will restrictions for at least another week.

Love that red bag Tracey, will have a look in TS tomorrow. Dh has taken the rest of the week off and dc not back to school until next mon, so we are still in holiday mode here.

Anyone going to a wedding this year? While on the Matches site I spied this Lanvin and this Ferretti which are so pretty.

Vin that is appalling customer service from IO, please keep at them, they are hoping that you'll get fed up and forget about it.

Bloss send it back if you don't love it, and put the procceds towards the DVF, her dresses are great on you, I have Bec envy!

Pickled you must come to the meet-up, by the sounds of things we'll be having a pre-meet-up meet-up in Selfridges make up dept Smile

notyummy · 04/01/2011 20:43

Another meet-up update!

Thanks for all the PMs - I feel so popular Grin. At the moment it looks like there are 22 of us, with 13 requiring accommodation - mixture of potential sharers and not means we will need at least 9 rooms. Budget wise I think we are looking at a place that is a maximum of £150 per room per night. There are quite a few reasonable hotels in that bracket, so I will post a few links to get you thinking.

Things I have factored in:

  • Location (fairly central, but not in the City - as someone said, it gets pretty dead at the weekend and can be scary to walk around in!!)
  • Price (obviously)
  • Reviews on a number of travel sites
  • Amenities (if we can find a place that has a spa/gym and is affordable..then why not??)
  • It needs a bar for that last minute dutch courage (and those of you who forgot to smuggle a bottle of bubbly into your room Wink...)

Ideas:

The Rembrant. Pushing the budget slightly, but good facilities and reviews.

Another at the upper end.

Hilton Metropole - I have stayed here. Bit huge/souless but could be good with a group. Good price!

Scarily close to Selfridges...and it has a spa!!

H10 - new, with good reviews.

K West as before. Looks good - but not sure about location??

Once we get better idea of what we want, I can it run through a number of search engines to get the best possible price. Also not sure what should come first for booking - restaurant/bars or hotel?? Kind of chicken and egg!

bunnymother · 04/01/2011 20:58

Oh Wise Ladies, please can you advise on this grey White Company cashmere cardi - is their cashmere nice and thick and good quality like Brora?? Should I buy this? I do love grey and I do love cashmere...

bunnymother · 04/01/2011 20:59

Verity - your water situation is extremely inconvenient - must add hours to your day dealing with boiling cold water etc. Well, at least you have those dreamy Lanvin and Ferretti dresses to think about whilst in domestic drudgery.

Am trying not to buy all of the sale items in Little White Company for the DDs. So hard not to...

blossoming · 04/01/2011 21:18

75 quid for a used cardigan bunny? And cashmere bobbles, so that cardigan must be bobbled already. Sorry!
Sorry about your tv carciofi. I was annoyed at dd today too because she threw the miffi bowl on the floor during her lunch. Really I was annoyed at myself for giving her a china bowl..
Gosh this not drinking is hard! I said on Sunday, no more wine, so I had a stella instead! Then yesterday I had wine next door for lunch, but had none last night. So really this is the first alcohol free day since before Christmas. Roll on Friday!
I'm off to look at your links now notyummy.

VerityBrulee · 04/01/2011 21:20

Bunny I don't have any White Co cashmere, so not sure about the quality. I do have a similar grey cardigan though and my only problem with it is that the grey is a bit too light in shade. I would prefer it to be more charcoal. But I am dark haired so lighter might siut you Confused

Little girls clothes are so adorable it's impossible to resist the temptation. What size are E and L wearing now?

I have been thinking about pretty dresses as I scrub dishes Smile

FritziGreenEyes · 04/01/2011 21:27

ollie Have PMed you Smile.

KILDARE4 · 04/01/2011 21:31

Please give me your opinions on these boots, I love them but I can't decide whether they're a step too far in releasing my inner Beth Lynch or not!Hmm

eshermummy · 04/01/2011 21:33

just popping on quickly to say to NY am not sure about whether I will stay overnight in London for meet-up so go ahead and choose something based on what everyone else wants/needs and I will either book a room or not as I decide Confused. I really would like to stay overnight but DH is still massively a bit unkeen that I do and I am theoretically within a (very expensive) cab-ride of central London......however tbh I would far rather be jumping in a cab with all those going back to the hotel than doing a 45-60 min cab journey home on my own at the end of the night Sad

VerityBrulee · 04/01/2011 21:33

NY I would be quite keen on the Portland Square as I was hoping to spend Sat around Marylebone High St, or equally the Rembrandt as I could do Knightsbridge instead.

Having said that, any of those you found would be perfect.

I have just heard that my lovely aunt is in ICU in Spain with scepticemia Sad She has chronic lung disease and the Irish winter is too harsh for her so she spends her winters in the sun which has improved her health massively. Unfortunately she got an abcess on her hip and the infection has spread to her blood. She developed lung problems when she was a midwife in Belfast. She worked in the special care baby unit, which was obiously really warm, but then went back to the cold damp nursing home at night which led her to develop TB. She has been chronically ill for as long as I can remember, but that didn't stop her from leading a great life and having 3 lovely children. The next few days will be crucial for her, we are all hoping she is strong enough to fight the infection. Please keep your fingers crossed for her.

FritziGreenEyes · 04/01/2011 21:35

Kildare Those shoes would be a bit too much for me personally but if you can pull it off, why not?

tracey Thanks for linking to LV scarf. It's lovely but I'm not sure if the colours are good for me.

FritziGreenEyes · 04/01/2011 21:38

Oh verity, I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. Hope you get some good news soon. She sounds like a really strong and inspiring woman.

notyummy Great selection of hotels. Next to Selfridges, spa + bar sounds perfect to me Grin. I'm almost hyperventilating at the thought of meeting you all Grin.

blossoming · 04/01/2011 21:40

Sorry to hear that news verity. She sounds an amazing woman.
ny,I agree with verity's choices of hotels too.
kildare, as you're coveting those shoes, I think we need a photo of you to assess the matter more thoroughly!

VerityBrulee · 04/01/2011 21:41

Thanks Fritzi

Yes I think NY might have hit the jackpot with that one!

Esher any news of your puffas? It's got very cold again here, I imagine you'd get plenty of wear from a coat like that between now and April.

blossoming · 04/01/2011 21:42

I'm staying in the Cardiff Radisson Blu on my rugby/anniversary weekend in February.

CHOOGIRL · 04/01/2011 21:50

Evening all. First day back at work today so feeling a little tired. Re meetup I'm definitely in. I'm in London, but may be tempted to stay in hotel.

NY this is a nice hotel and within budget. It's targetted at the City worker so they offer reasonable deals at weekends.

Have also stayed at the Malmaison which Esher suggested and here. Blush

I have memberships at Starwood Hotel Group and Hilton so may be able to help negotiate a reasonable rate as there is a group of us.

Four Seasons on Canary Wharf does good deals at the weekend, has a spa and fantastic Italian. I'm not on the Wharf at the weekend, so not sure how busy it will be.

Off to look at links now. Will be back to talk fashion later.

Esher I love Smiths of Smithfield, but not sure it would be good for veggies.

eshermummy · 04/01/2011 21:51

Verity really hope your aunt pulls through

Kildare am all for a bit of leopard Wink but don't like those boots, sorry

Bunny there were still a few half price cashmere pieces left in the Boden sale earlier. Sorry, I'm with Bloss - I wouldn't pay £75 for a 2ndhand cardy.

Really wish that my sis was still in London or her flat wasn't currently let as could just stay there (and if it was empty, we could fit a few extra W&A-ers in too) Sad

CHOOGIRL · 04/01/2011 21:54

good thinking Esher I have a friend with a Corporate Let she doesn't usually use it at weekends. Will message her...

mrsjuan · 04/01/2011 21:55

Right, have finished all domestic drudgery (love that phrase bunny) so have settled down for a catch up.

cake love the idea of buying something on the 'anniversary' and especially like hells' cult idea as long as it's not DT's bag - don't think my budget could stretch to that. Grin

NY superb work on the spreadsheet - I will leave it to those in the know to suggest venues as I haven't had a proper night out in London for about 5 years.
Your poor DD! Sounds very sore - I am wincing just thinking about it - I guess at least she is young enough not to have the embarrassment factor on top of the pain?

esher I like that blouse a lot - it's similar to what you've been looking for for a while isn't it? I have an irrational hatred of puffa coats but prefer the Jaeger one of the two

Marsha Welcome back. Glad you had a wonderful holiday. The cashmere sounds fabulous - linkage??

vin don't think the jumpsuit is too mad - it doesn't actually look like a jumpsuit but think you could do better.
DD (19 months) got a wheely bug for Christmas and is intrigued by it but can't move anywhere yet as her feet don't quite touch the ground Grin. It is the larger size though so I guess once she's grown into it she should get lots of fun from it.
We got her schleich farm animals for Christmas and they went down very well as others have said. I'm looking forward to building up a nice collection for her.
I think at around 1 she really started getting into books and jigsaws as well. Ball pits are always popular as well if you have the space and patience to pick up the balls from where they've been chucked.
I really liked that London Bus that Zembo linked to a while back too .

apuski Best of luck for the interview - sounds like an exciting job

Tracey I like that LV scarf a lot but too £££ for me. I did ask for the warehouse one for Christmas but it didn't appear so think I will purchase myself instead. I caught the Archers tonight for the first time in years (DH usually rushes to switch off the radio as soon as he hears the opening bars). Very sad.

everything have you heard from landlady yet? Hope everything goes in your favour.

Hope you feel better soon Fleecy

verity You are a better person than me to be dealing so well with the water situation. Really hope it gets sorted soon.

carciofi I'm in awe and rather Envy of your maternity wardrobe. Shock at DD & the virgin box! Is it salvageable?

oww you look lovely in the photo. I thought you were brunette too. How exciting that you and the other foreign corespondents can make it to the meet up.

Phew.

Two (slightly) noteworthy items from my day:

  1. When I picked DD up from Nursery today one of the staff said to her 'are you going to have your tea when you get home?'. She replied very seriously 'no, champagne' Blush Am awaiting the call from social services.
  1. I have managed to lose 3lb and gain some semblance of a waist since New Year's Eve just by not eating rubbish or snacking between meals. Feel slightly disgusted at the volume I must have been consuming before for such a small change to make a difference so quickly Confused
mrsjuan · 04/01/2011 21:58

Oh gosh Verity - so sorry to hear about your Aunt. I will be thinking about her and hoping she makes an improvement.

eshermummy · 04/01/2011 22:15

Verity I have not ordered either puffa and am currently dithering. I have a perfectly ok black H&M puffa that I bought last year, and it was the fact that I kept finding that it was the coat I was reaching for/the most practical item for current weather/lifestyle over the Chrismas hols that made me think it was worth upgrading to a more luxe version BUT when i bought the H&M puffa last year it was after rejecting countless designer alternatives as am very fussy on fit/shape etc, esp if I am going to pay £250 (H&M was £49.99).
I do also have shearling for very cold but dry days Wink.
Just mentioned puffa quandary to DH who said weather is freezing tonight (I have not been out today Blush) and will no doubt be like this till April so I should buy Hmm he is such an enabler Grin

eshermummy · 04/01/2011 22:17

Meant to say MRSJ I am your weightloss although am a little Envy
