Thank you all so much for the links! Lots of testing for me to do Grin

LTEC - I just got the Leon cookbook and love the look of it (have yet to test anything yet though I'm trying the meatballs recipe this week).

The bag is amazing...but I agree with the verdict of waiting.

Forgot to say - Zen was beautiful to watch but tediously slow. However I was inspired by the very sexy silk blouse/pencil skirt combo the lead actress was wearing...now I'm trying to find an occasion to wear such an outfit!

Sad commiserations on the hole in your sweater, vin. My furnishings (especially seat covers) have suffered appalling fates from studs on teenaged jeans Sad

bonsoir- how about a lovely art deco sideboard- maybe walnut or some such wood? Might have to top it with some vintage silver and glass (I think your DD is old enough for this to be safe)!
Art deco chairs, etc have wonderful shapes. Would be tempted to find something antique (vintage strictly, I suppose) and then cover it in a stylish modern fabric.
Getting carried away- please ignore me

I would like to buy my sister something pretty for her 30th which is coming up this month.

What do you think of these or these

Also, I posted this dress further down which I bought yesterday but was also eyeing up this kimono dress although they didn't have my size.

So can I have opinions please - 1 or 2?
I am quite skinny with narrow shoulders/chest/ small bust but larger bottom and don't tend to suit loose styles which is why I thought no.1 was quite flattering. However, always hard to judge when tried on in a hurry, with flattering mirrors, lighting, etc!

vinvinoveritas, thank you, will have a look at the hotels ;-).

hf128219 · 03/01/2011 16:17

Looby Those star earrings are pretty.

Of the 2 dresses, no 2.

Argh, just come back from looking at sofas. Leaning towards herringbone weaves/tweed look plains. I love rich browns mixed with blue.

You lot are a bad influence. Grin

loobylu3 · 03/01/2011 17:30

Thank you for the opinions so far.

vin- I will try to post another link for you for the dresses!

non asos link for vin

and dress 2

Not sure the earrings/rings are available elsewhere. They are silver stars by Dower and Hall.

Did you decide on a sofa hf?

bonsoir- in many ways, I would much prefer if my DH would accept a bit of hand holding! He has mountains of clothes which are up to 12 years old, don't fit any more, look dated and will never be worn again but he won't admit it let alone getting rid of them- drives me mad but he is v stubborn and independent.
I would much prefer to be allowed to boss him around and decide on his clothes as he has errr 'different' taste from me! :)

blossoming · 03/01/2011 17:56

Just came back from a lovely time next door but boy am I full! I look about 6 months pregnant!

Bonsoir · 03/01/2011 18:24

loobylu3 - my DP was a dreadful hoarder (and a pretty dreadful dresser, albeit à la française) before I got hold of his wardrobe and sorted it. When DD was about 18 months old, we went to Brussels for the weekend to stay with friends of DP and his friend recommended a shirt shop to him. We came away with a lot of gorgeous new shirts and ties. I swear that on the Monday morning after that weekend I bagged up 12 binbags of clothes that were in DP's wardrobe and that I had never seen him wear and, perhaps more importantly, would never have walked down the street with him wearing Blush. I didn't chuck the stuff, but left it what has now been reclaimed as my dressing room (but used to be a sort of dumping ground for miscellany). After a few weeks, there appeared a notice in the hall of our apartment block saying that the Red Cross was going to be coming round to collect unwanted clothing. So I convinced DP to go through the binbags, reclaim what he wanted, and let me put out the rest.

He hardly reclaimed a thing!

I didn't mind the first instance as I understood that he hadn't grown up in a family where he was expected to sort his stuff, nor had his exW ever expected him to do so (she lives in chaos of bulging closets). I didn't even mind the subsequent goes, and the gradual total overhaul of his wardrobe/hairstyle/general demeanour that has taken place over the past five years. But why, after so much painstaking teaching and example, doesn't he learn?! Very mysterious...

vin - what can I say? You know you want to move to Paris and find yourself a French man to restyle Wink. At least they are game for it!

OllieWollieWoo · 03/01/2011 18:39

LL I agree with Vin - I like both dresses! Number 1 is v elegant tho - that style with the colour block (very SS11 apparently!) is very flattering - similar to a dress I had for a wedding back in Oct (I had it in cream and pale grey) and it did look very slimming. Was it that one that you wished you'd tried in in a different size? How about taking a pic and posting on here? (says me who has never done that!). The black one is one of those thats always good to have in your wardrobe and would probably end up wearing far more than you first thought you would?

Liked the present ideas for your sister too. I always have a look at Notonthehighstreet.com for things like that too.

Speaking fo which - no idea when I'd use it other than on the sofa, but v taken with this star pashmina
here

Bonsoir · 03/01/2011 18:41

Pretty star scarf, OWW Smile

notyummy · 03/01/2011 19:25

Hi all!

LL - Am torn on your 2 dresses, as I feel they have both have pros and cons. The first could be suitable for a range of occasions, including work, but less forgiving, and harder to wear if having a 'fat' day (...or perhaps projecting my 'ishoos' on to you Grin). The second is more 'dressing up' and so you may get slightly less wear out of it....but possibly slightly more forgiving??

OK, LTEC - I am up for a bit of organising!

Ladies - A and W get together. Facts I think I know (but correct me if wrong!)

  1. Saturday 19th March. Evening do.
  1. London.

Pretty vague then! We need suitable accommodation option/s (imagine there may a range of budgets to consider...) Would be good if accommodation is near to some suitable shopping perhaps? Plus a place(s) for food/drinks.

We have already had the Hoxton and Malmaison suggested as accommodation venues. If people have any other ideas, then post them and I will collate and then we can compare venue/prices etc. Also ideas for eateries.

Lastly, numbers. This is a VERY rough list going on what it is in my head. It is almost certainly wrong....so please post/PM me and let me know!

Me
LTEC
Esher
Everything
Fritzi
Verity
Choo
Roma (?? Think it depended on family plans..)
Marsha
Blossoming
OWW (??)
Bonsoir (??)
Tracey (??)

Please dont be insulted if you are not 'on the list'...it will be because I am really not sure if you have indicated you are free; not because I have forgotten you - honest. Smile

LetThemEatCake · 03/01/2011 19:34

looby number 1 hands down!!

traceybath · 03/01/2011 19:35

I'm a definite NY Smile

Golly - second evening spent in tears listening to the archers.

I have spent all day again de-cluttering. 4 rooms left to go and then the whole house will have been done.

LL - I think you could possibly find a better dress than either of those two - what do you want it for?

ABO - loving the Viv. And yes Esher - its the one I Hells and Fleecy have in the pink/magenta colour. Haven't 'coloured-in' that one yet Wink You do make me laugh though - I now realise you all see me sat with my felt-tips colouring in my dresses Grin
