vin, glad you had a great day out - so lovely to spend time with an old friend

bloss, enjoy your shoeboots, some things are worth waiting for

Bonsoir, what shocking news, how terrible for all invoved

Oh, and Vin, enough shopping already < said in an American accent > for this year anyway

eshermummy · 30/12/2010 21:21

Vin I don't like the Erdem. Print is pretty but can't imagine that shape doing much for you Smile

NY you should get the rat-alikes - only issue I can think of is that maybe they wont be full length on you as think they are normal length on me?

Bloss yaaay for the shoeboots!

Tracey I'm another one with whore's wages an allowance, but it's never enough!!!

Choo you really made me lol with your "leave him" comment.

Bonsoir horrible news about your friend Sad

LTEC forgot to say yest, I loved the tasselly warehouse dress Smile. The sequinned BMB dress is just TOOOO blingy I feel. have not ordered the Therapy one as know the 10 will most prob be too big at neck/shoulders and really can't face the endless returning of parcels at postoffice at the mo.

Having said that, have just placed Whistles sale order online ....

Took family to Tate Modern today. Was very busy. Is it always that busy Shock?
We had lunch here which I highly recommend. Kids' menu was amazingly good value for proper food.
Am not really a modern art fan. Couldn't help stifling a few giggles at some of the exhibits.
I think this cultural enrichment lark may be overrated Grin - far too much smug bill amberg papoosing and fleece wearing for my liking. Ugh.

Re CF Film Tracey - its released over here on Feb 17th and my friend has already got us a couple of tickets as somethng to look forward too! We like to think of ourselves as members of the Dutch branch of the Colin Firth Appreciation society (saddos). It does look very good tho.

I only watched the second half of Upstairs and Downstairs the other night - who was Lotte's Mum - a servant or family friend? I missed all that bit - got my UK/Dutch timings muddled up!. And who was the man with the short dark hair that was at one of the dinner party's and then cried on the phone when the King abdicated (I know I sound like my Mum asking questions like this!).

eshermummy · 30/12/2010 21:24

Sorry, that post wasn't so good you needed it twice.
Blardy computer Blush

traceybath · 30/12/2010 21:32

Lotte's mum was Rachel a Jewish refugee university-lecturer who was working as a maid.

The man was the Duke of Kent - the younger brother of King George V1.

OllieWollieWoo · 30/12/2010 21:35

Ah - that makes sense now! Ta Tracey - no more annoying questions I promise!!

traceybath · 30/12/2010 21:36

Don't worry OWW Grin. Wasn't Hallam delightful - a sort of nice Don Draper.

blossoming · 30/12/2010 21:38

Omg ollie, that dress is gorgeous!!

bunnymother · 30/12/2010 21:45

Bonsoir - how awful! His poor family, how traumatic for them.

Bloss - you must do a jig in your shoe boots when you get them!

Hello Fritzi! Am sure wanted to reply to you but on phone and can't see or remember what reply was regarding!

Re budgets - I have one but need to limit purchases to qualitee rather than lots of "it will do/be useful" items.

Vin - thanks for your feeding advice, too.

Bonsoir · 30/12/2010 21:47

On DP's friend - apparently his wife was away, as was his 14 year old DD. His 16 year old DS was out for the evening, and on coming back quite late couldn't get into the apartment with his key and there was no reply. In the end the son called the police and they came, broke in and found DP's friend dead.

The neighbour has been arrested.

blossoming · 30/12/2010 21:58

Oh dear bonsoir, how terrible.

ApuskiDusky · 30/12/2010 22:13

Bonsoir, so sorry to hear that, shocking.

Have been browsing a little - what do you reckon to this? And bloss, do you think the colour works for an autumn? I didn't fully understand what my colour consultant said about navy for me. And I'm looking forward to seeing your shoeboots, having bought a pair from R&B myself!

OllieWollieWoo · 30/12/2010 22:17

Bonsoir - how awful.

Bloss - I did think of you and your colouring when I saw that IO dress! Has va va voom potential - sure DH would approve!

FritziGreenEyes · 30/12/2010 22:20

Oh bonsoir that's terrible. Hope your DH is ok and his friend's family have all the support that might help to deal with this shock.

FritziGreenEyes · 30/12/2010 22:23

We'll be staying in tomorrow too. One of our friends from the UK has sent us DVD set of Downton Abbey, so that's the entertainment for tomorrow sorted Grin.

blossoming Looking forward to pictures of your fabulous boots!

loobylu3 · 30/12/2010 22:58

vino-just managed to catch up with your post.
It sounds as if you know lots of medical people so probably have a far better idea of what you could be getting into than I did as a naive 18 year old!
Being a doctor is a great privilege in a lot of ways and Medicine is a varied and interesting career and I guess you can feel better about yourself for doing a job where your main motivation is to help people rather than make pots of money! However, without going into huge details here, there are a lot of negative things in the NHS which detract.
I wouldn't worry so much about your DS and how he would cope. I don't think it would be impossible although it may affect your choice of specialty.
By the way, I like your Clooney tip and your ideas re re structuring the wardrobe and having less clothes but only those that you love!
PS I don't like the Erdem either :)

bunny-I can only echo other people's supportive advice. I think you have to decide how much you really want to BF the twins because for the first few weeks, it is going to be pretty much a full time job. If you really want to bf, it might be worth seeing a bf counsellor to get some good advice re supply/ good positions for feeding twins, etc.
If you don't want to bf and are feeling guilty, best to formula feed and feel happy. They have already had the first few weeks which are the most important!

LTEC- forgot to say, I love your ring from earlier in the thread. Also, made a really strange discovery when packing for holiday. I discovered that I have exactly the same Alex Munro dragonfly that you have! It must have been a present from my mother who has v good (and rather expensive) taste and I am embarrassed to say that I have never worn it. Must start!

everything- you look lovely in your statement necklace so ignore any silly comments by ignorant people!

Hello to petit- super jealous of your lovely curvy figure and also arewedancers

I am a bit sad to see that so many if you absolutely stunning ladies have such fears of food :(
I am sad that so many women feel this way and are making themselves feel so guilty.

I also don't think dieting is healthy, especially the type where whole food groups are completely excluded- surely balance in everything is best?
Maybe (said v tentatively for fear of offending) a NY resolution to enjoy your food more and stopping punishing yourselves.

FritziGreenEyes · 30/12/2010 23:10

One of my new year's resolutions is that I want to go out more with DH. Always been slow to catch up on trends I am thinking about buying a faux fur jacket to wear over beautiful dresses. Something like this but preferably not patterned? Anyone seen anything good around?

LetThemEatCake · 30/12/2010 23:28

evening ladies!

fritzi have you checked asos? often good for stuff like that. Meant to say, sorry you are feeling so wiped out atm

bonsoir how shocking and unsettling. Glad you were able to come here and tell us

vin how wonderful that you had such a magical day! Don't spoil it by pondering that "ooops, someone just puked on me" dress Grin

esher your irreverence makes me laugh!

thanks also esher and OWW re kind dress last night comments Smile

bloss am clicking my heels together for you. How fab that you have your long-awaited shoeboots!!

tracey I still immed think of you every time I see a Victoriana blouse

NY thanks for Manuka honey tip, is a big part of the CV detox and I was well into it a while back but must restock!

What is Yule log?

re NY resolutions, well one of mine for this year was to get chatted up by a reasonable man ie not some drunk with a rat on his shoulder. And last night it happened! phew, only 48 hrs to go but I just scraped in there Wink

just been out to dinner with mum and sister and wore magic Goldsign skinny jeans, warehouse swallow print blouse, red patent M&S heels and charity shop camel coat. Dh is rather enamoured of Janice so will save her for next dinner a deux with him

Tomorrow night we have kids' party in arvo, then back here to get them off to sleep, then party down the hill with friends then back to ours for midnight as we have awesome view of fireworks all over london. Will def wear red dress since learning it's good luck but think it will be HH as the labels are still in and you are supposed to wear something brand new to ensure constant supply of new clothes in coming year ...

re monthly budget I was thinking £250-300, what were you thinking tracey?

OllieWollieWoo · 31/12/2010 07:45

Morning!
Its 8.30am and DS1 has already had a complete meltdown after DS2 took one piece of lego from something DS1 had made. That was an hour ago and DS1 is still not talking to anyone, apart from announcing he is moving to England after this sleep to stay with my sister. Sigh.

TV schedules packed full of those programmes which look back over the year. For me, 2010 will be remembered as follows:

  • This thread (often one of the best bits of my day);
  • Two lovely, relaxing holidays to France and Norfolk;
  • Seeing MIL naked! (still not recovered fully);
  • Getting neighbour to climb over garden wall to open back door only to find cleaner was still in the house (still cringe everytime I see him!);
  • DS1's 'toilet seat dropping on willy' & DS2's stokke chair related trips to hospital!
  • Having my colours done;
  • DH getting a new job which has taken 10 years off the way he looks (yum!)

W&A purchase wise:

  • Shoe boots in black and grey - how did I survive without them?;
  • Butterfly scarf;
  • Camel cape cardi thingy from Monsoon - a godsend in the cold weather;
  • Finally getting round to wearing skinny jeans!

NY Resolutions:

  • Avidly clear out wardrobe using the tried and test Vin method (will substitute George for Colin tho! Smile);
  • To Dukan and Shed (honest!)
  • To finally meet my fellow W&A's;
  • Spend more money on fewer, quality purchases (without feeling guilty) using new allowance! - said this last year but this time I really mean it!

Happy New Year everyone!

Bonsoir · 31/12/2010 08:29

fritzi - I really like that fake fur jacket as it is (though I know what you mean about plain). Since it isn't wildly expensive, you could get that one and wear it and if you really feel good about it, you could upgrade later?

There is a second-hand designer shop in my road that has lots and lots of (real) fur coats of all descriptions in it and I really think I should buy one in 2011. Everything in the shop is of very good quality/condition, and I just need to find the time to go in there and try some jackets on... wish some of you were here to go with me and have some fun!

DP and I also think we should go out together more in 2011. We had a really lovely time on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons when DD was invited out by friends and DP was able to take the afternoon off work, it being the week between Christmas and NY. DD sometimes gets invited for playdates on Saturday afternoons and up until now I have been reluctant to agree, but she is beginning to find it quite boring to spend all Saturday with DP and me, so I think I will accept in the NY and then DP and I can have more free time together.

hellsbelles · 31/12/2010 09:00

Vin ? three cheers for fabulous day and perfect coats! And don?t buy the dress?there is probably a reason why it is available in every size despite the price being slashed.

And Bloss- can?t wait to see the shoeboots

OWW ? the thought of your MIL is etched in my brain too Grin ? you must be scared for life Wink

Fritz ? I want to concentrate more on DH. I have neglected him horribly. I?ll keep an eye out for the jacket?

Bonsoir ? How hugely shocking & horrific. Something like that jolts you doesn?t it? One tiny mercy is that the son didn?t actually find the body. Imagine a memory like that etched in the brain.

Tracey/VB ? I adored the Upstairs Downstairs clothes and rather more disconcertingly I suddenly felt a huge urge to smoke and drink cocktails Grin. My grandmother used to have rather wonderful cigarette holders and beautiful cigarette cases. Of course I know it?s terrible but it did seem so terribly glamorous!

LTEC ? well done for hitting your deadline! I can?t recall the last time I was chatted up. Perhaps that should be my 2011 resolution Grin

I?m also really keen to see the new Colin Firth film?it?s supposed to be brilliant!

We are having a lazy NYE ? lots of nice food & booze but that?s it. No going out.

blossoming · 31/12/2010 09:07

Morning all!
apuski, I couldn't open your link but I remember my colours consultant telling me that 'everyone has a navy!' hence the success of the janice I'd imagine!
notyummy, have you ordered the DVDs yet? You could have my Banish fat boost metabolism. I've only done it once: it was too long for me.
Back later.

carciofi · 31/12/2010 09:23

Hi all.

I have just received a box of clothes from the very generous Vino, so thank you very much, Vino. Grin

I like the dress, Apuski, looks very classic.

Fritzi, hope you are feeling better. I love those little jackets.

I ordered a Merrell Wakefield after seeing on another thread that they are discounted, hope it is nice on. Every year I buy a Barbour and then return it and I am Irish so a waterproof coat will always come in handy!

We are braving Oxford St now to look at furniture.

Happy new year!
