No, but have suddenly realised how easy it is to wear dresses. With a boot and a tight. So easy in the morning to chuck it on.

muddleduck · 12/12/2010 20:56

I did this. I banned jeans for a month.

I went from wearing skirts for special occasions only to very rarely wearing trousers.

The trick is a couple of pairs of great boots.

Mercedes519 · 12/12/2010 20:56

How old are you south? Maybe it's an age thing Hmm

I'm going through a similar change, both for smart at work and casual. I think it maybe I've started to appreciate how flattering it can be and I've found some knee boots that fit my fat calves Grin

bethelbeth · 12/12/2010 20:58

There's a dearth of nice trousers out there so yes, I am currently skirted 99% of the time

greenlotus · 12/12/2010 20:58

Yes, funny that. Boots were definitely the key to the change, also really finding out what style of skirt suited me.

muddleduck · 12/12/2010 20:58

Oh and a stash of leggings to wear under when crawling around after small children.

LutyensInTinsel · 12/12/2010 21:03

I hardly ever wear trousers any more. I just find skirts and dresses so much more forgiving on my mummy handles Blush. And I absolutely love boots. I only have 3 pairs of boots but I wear them all day, every day...and they make me feel great Grin

bethelbeth · 12/12/2010 21:14

Seeing as we are all skirt converts: where do you get your favourite ones?

I have real issues as I won't wear anything above knee length and if it's too far below knee I look stumpy.

I can't be bothered altering every item of clothes that I buy but surely I cannot be the only one caught up in the middle of the Tarty/Matronly divide?

muddleduck · 12/12/2010 21:26

Has to be above the knee IMO.

I am too old to look unfrumpy in a longer skirt.

LutyensInTinsel · 12/12/2010 21:28

I'm only 5'2" so have to be very strict about skirt lengths if I don't want to look frumpy. Anything below knee-length is an absolute no-no. However, I can safely wear mini skirts (with thick tights) without looking tarty as my legs are so short that it doesn't look like I'm exposing much...if that makes any sense?

I buy skirts from Boden (in the sales), M&S Indigo collection and H+M. I never buy Whistles or Joules as their skirts hit me mid-calf and make my legs look like stumps Xmas Hmm

barbarapym · 12/12/2010 21:38

Yes - haven't worn trousers or jeans for nearly 2 years, after previously living in them for 3 years after having dd. So much more flattering - legs much better than backside...

Best skirts from (dare I say it) Boden, White Stuff, Uniqlo, Kew and Gap so far. Nice grey velvety cord mini from Joules last year too.

I get thick grey or black woolly school tights in teen size for me when stocking up for dd - v warm, last for ages, look great with boots, and cost about £3.50 a pair.

duckyfuzz · 12/12/2010 21:45

me too - I love being able to throw a dress and boots on rather than faff with trousers, but just a year ago I never wore skirts apart from in the height of summer. I think its partly age (jsut turned 40) partly the availabililty of nice wearable dresses, skirts and boots, partly losing 2st

muddleduck · 12/12/2010 21:46

School tights? Great idea.

GeekLove · 12/12/2010 21:52

I wear skirts a lot now because I am at 26wks and found that I have 1 pair of maternitg trowsers that fit. Sigh.

llareggub · 12/12/2010 21:55

How odd that you posted this today. I went shopping today and the same thoughts were going through my mind, as I tried on dress after dress.

I find tights, dress and boots so much warmer than trousers, and a lot easier to cope with in the mornings. A few years ago I don't think I possessed any skirts or dresses!

purply · 12/12/2010 22:56

Also think its a trend thing. Boots are the height of fashion and theres so many ways of wearing boots, dresses, skirts. Personally I'm interested in were to get knee length skirts. Bought a tweed one from eBay for £2! It's ace.

Kristingle · 12/12/2010 23:03

i think i am wearing skirts / dresses because the only trousers that are "on trend" [snort] now are high waisted trousers and various skinnies which are not flattering to my figure

(or anyone else who has boob and / or a tummy )

the only trousers / jeans i suit are skinny flares , which make everyone on the S&B threads do this Hmm

iwilldothis · 13/12/2010 10:45

I have 2 Great Plains skirts, A-line, knee-length, great for big bum and thighs :)

daimbardiva · 13/12/2010 10:57

I always want to wear skirts, but can never think what to wear them with - I'm usually a skinnies and tunics girl, so having to think about tops that go with skirts gives me headaches...

The dress/tights/boots option is a definite go-er though - in fact, have just sent off for a few in Boden sale...

polyhymnia · 13/12/2010 11:15

daimbardiva, see what you mean about this thread having crossover with the other. Like you, I like dresses and boots - it's the tops element of the skirt combo which throws me every time.

Hope there'll be some recommendations for what works well on top from the skirts fans on this thread. I not only have a large bust but am tall, so some tops are too short, whilst others too long, so spoil line of any skirt which flares at all at hips.

daimbardiva · 13/12/2010 11:28

I'm tall too - I always find that whatever top I try to pair with a skirt it ends up looking like two separate outfits iyswim??

polyhymnia · 13/12/2010 11:33

Exactly. It seems so much easier to pair tunics with skinny jeans, etc then style with belts, necklaces, etc.

div22c · 13/12/2010 12:48

Another recent convert - short with small bust & waist but big hips. Problem I have at the moment is keeping work shirts tucked in. I have to keep tucking mine back in - not a good look! How do you do it? Also are boots ok for work - dont see any women around me wearing them...seems to be a plethora of court shoes/ pencil heels here?

Ottybottom · 13/12/2010 13:02

I was thinking this very thing recently! I now wear dresses/skirts 90% of the time - in the past it was maybe once a week at work (more in summer). Nothing is as comfy as the stretchy jersey dress/thick tights/boots combo, and these days I can't believe that I spent so much time (and so much money!) struggling with jeans (which I find uncomfortable). I think that the return of leggings has a lot to do with it,nice boots to fit my wide calves, and just a general surge away from the jeans based look of the previous decade or so.

diddl · 13/12/2010 13:09

Not skirts, but dresses with thick tights or leggings &tunics.

Thick tights so much warmer than jeans as well-& they don´t dig in the flabGrin
