Help me choose some footwear to go with a dress please (Xmas party)

Its for a Xmas Party but dress code is vague -I know for a fact some people will be in their sparkliest party finery and some will be dressed down. I'm probably going to aim to be somewhere in the middle. I'm not a dress-up, pile on the slap and glam type of gal Wink

My dress is a black maxi dress similar to this which I'm going to dress up with a chunky silver necklace and a wide (low slung?)belt. I have a selection of belts I can choose from, both black and silver.

The problem is footwear. I don't do heels. My only footwear tends to be flat boots (Fly Mols etc ), flip-flops/sandals, converse etc. I think the only "shoes" I own are a pair of black ballet pumps and some brown suede wedge "interview shoes".

What would you wear? I don't mind buying some cheap going-out shoes but they all seem to be stupidly high. I like the look of some of them but just know I won't be able to walk in them.

Is there such a thing as a nice shoe with a lower heel? Is there another option I'm overlooking?

I like \link{http://www.schuh.co.uk/womens-black-schuh-boca-elastic-bow-wedge/1119187050/\these} with maybe funky tights something like tartan!

Tartan tights?!

I was hoping to blend into the background Wink

Well I had a brief look today whilst Xmas shopping and came up with.....zilch.

They are all just so high. I tried a few pairs on but they were so uncomfortable and my balance was completely out. No wonder the likes of Victoria Beckham always looks so miserable -they are in such discomfort and concentrating hard on trying to stand up straight!

I've probably left it too late to order on-line so will have to hope the High St or retail park throws up something.

what about something like these

Think maxis are difficult outside of summer. I'd go with an evening type pull on suede boot with a kitten heel like these

lovelyopaque those boots are nice, would be a good choice with a winter maxi

And useful with plenty of other dresses for going out in winter and warm! Smile
