Does anyone have any suggestions?

Find icy weather really daunting as always feel am going to go head over heels...and have done on many an occasion.

Am newly pregnant so really hoping to find some boots that will help me stay upright in all this snow and ice we're due to have soon!

Thanks!

I've got some really nice timberlands, that look moderately stylish (well, I would think that, wouldn't I Grin), and have good grip on the sole.

I can't give you any links, because that's way beyond my technological expertise - sorry.

SimplySparkling · 24/11/2010 11:29

I love my FLY London MOL boots. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Smile

Pop on to the Wise and Avid Thread and ask Esher - I'm sure she had some good ones last year.

ALittleLemonTwist · 24/11/2010 12:12

I am exactly the same and get all worked up thinking about walking on icy roads!

I have been mocked my friends and family but I have ordered these from Amazon. Cheaper than new boots/shoes but will look quite discreet over my black boots

mloo · 24/11/2010 12:23

Hush Puppies. I have these (good for wide feet with high insteps).

missunderstanding · 24/11/2010 12:38

cat mardy boots are £40 at amazon now!!! just ordered a pair

VivaLeBeaver · 24/11/2010 12:41

Merrell Puffin Frost boots. They are fab, comfy and warm and non-slippy.

Ottybottom · 24/11/2010 12:48

Also petrified of icey pavements. Just got Schu Rev Biker Welly Boots. I'm hoping for the best - they have soles like tractor tyres!

fedupwithdeployment · 24/11/2010 12:50

I use (cheap) walking boots.

belgo · 24/11/2010 12:52

Proper walking boots, but tying the laces could be a problem if you have a large bump!

FiveOrangePips · 24/11/2010 13:54

Viva what is merrell sizing like?

FreeButtonBee · 24/11/2010 14:12

I have these Caterpillar boots which are fabulous. Good grip, wee bit of a heel to make you feel like you're not a hill walker and fur lined for added cosiness. They are also pull on-off and have a adjustable side bit so no worries about getting them on and off. I got them just before the snow last winter and wore them constantly.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/11/2010 18:06

I'm between a 5 and a 6 in Next/Clarks/Tesco. I ordered a 6 and they fit like a glove......that sounds wrong but you know what I mean!

JamieLeeCurtis · 24/11/2010 19:06

Look in the Landsend catalogue. Their stuff is very good quality and not too expensive

thenightsky · 24/11/2010 19:08

I got some fab ones from Costco... they are supposed to apre ski boots. Cost me 32 quid.

Theantsgomarching · 24/11/2010 19:08

I have a wonferful pair on flat Caterpillar boots - soooo snuggly and good grip

fluffles · 24/11/2010 19:08

i have these www.merrell.com/UK/en-GB/ViewProduct.mvc.aspx/15692W/0/Womens/Oslo-Waterproof?galleryId=W-F and love love love love them.. they're so warm and waterproof and grippy. this is my second winter in them Grin

TabithaTwitchet · 24/11/2010 19:16

Mine are made by Alpine Snowsport - they were quite cheap (30ish quid), I think in Blacks or Millets or somewhere. Fur lined and waterproof and quite nice looking black boots with a zip and fantastically grippy sole.
Don't know if they still do them though, was a couple of years ago, but I would look out for the brand.

iMum · 24/11/2010 19:19

Ive just ordered these www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004DJGZVW/ref=oss_product no idea what they will be like but for £22 i'll take a punt

iMum · 24/11/2010 19:19

aghh try again

BornToFolk · 24/11/2010 19:21

I love my Ecco boots (so much so I am always recommending them on there!)
I wore them last year through the snow and they were really grippy.
I don't think they still do the style that I have but these are v similar

MWestie · 25/11/2010 16:26

Wow, thanks everyone for all your suggestions!

Was actually looking at Ecco boots today - I think I'd poss go for them if they really are grippy, but wasn't sure from looking at them and also how, ehm, forgiving they are in the calf area, I've got pretty chunky legs...

Otherwise, think I may also have to be mocked by friends and family and go for the traction velcro thingamajigs that ALittleLemonTwist recommended!

just bought these and I love them.

eshermummy · 25/11/2010 16:39

I bought these last year and cannot rate them highly enough
sooooo warm and cozy, waterproof and really good grip in snow/ice.

here

I got the black but am loving the silver ones (didn't see any silver last year Envy)
Shop around, you should be able to get them cheaper elsewhere. Think they are called colorado boots.

polyhymnia · 25/11/2010 16:41

I'm yet another person terrified of slipping on the ice.

Must say my Fitflop Mukluks did cope OK last year, so I hope new Fitflop boots will this. But am always looking for THE least slippy shoe/ boot ever. Tempted by the lok of these Merrell Puffins, but a bit worried that one out of the 3 reviews on the Fitness First footwear site, which sells them, said they were in fact slippy. Presumably that's not the experience of people here?
