I bloody love Groupon!!

Woke up today to find my bids last night for £240 worth of pampering treatments for the princely sum of £59 had been successful. Just gotta decide when to redeem-before or after baby (due Jan). My booty includes a cut, colour, blow dry and Balinese head massage from one salon and Nouveau eyelash extensions, manicure and eyebrow threading at the other.

I love the fact that most of the vouchers can be redeemed within 3-12 months and what's offered at such discounted prices are things I normally do and pay full price for. I am going to stockpile some more deals as they come up towards the end of the year-including more practical one off house cleaning! and use them in the months after the baby when I will be in need of pampering, but won't have the money to pay full price. Anyone else heart Groupon?

I have just found the Groupon website...cannot believe this is all true! Is it???

I was also looking at the balinese head massage and cut and blow dry thing... Is it defo worth it and it's not a scam???

deliciousdevilwoman · 10/11/2010 11:11

Rohey-all true, I promise! First used it 2 months ago, when I bought a package of a facial, mani, pedi and blow dry for £23 instead of the usual £120! I was worried that on the day the service might be shoddy/rushed, but I had 3 hours of total pampering. And, after the facial, a light make up was applied-which I wasn't expecting. I walked out of that salon with swingy hair, immaculate hands and feet and dewy skin. I felt great!

Not wanting to burst your bubble but my friend had massive problems trying to book the service she paid for before it expired - every time she rang the company the phone was engaged, which was not surprising as 1200 had just signed up for one small pilates studio! The deals are based on a certain proportion of people never actually redeeming the service they've paid for I reckon. I'm going to remain on the fence until someone I know actually manages to redeem their voucher.

deliciousdevilwoman · 10/11/2010 12:13

Fair enough Quodlibet, but I did manage to redeem a previous voucher two months ago-see my last post. I couldn't get the first Saturday I wanted, but got the one thereafter, so within 2 weeks of me purchasing, which I didn't consider to be too bad.

Ive been hooked since my first £6 photobook in May. We had a 3 course meal & wine in one of my fave restauarants on Saturday for £15 pp, and I have a pamper day booked - not had any problems - so yep I love Groupon too.

Quodlibet · 10/11/2010 14:46

Oh right ddw, think I cross-posted with you - good to hear you have had good service out of it...Every business on there is different I suppose.

vintage4 · 10/11/2010 17:01

I love groupon too. Had two nice meals out for a fraction of the price and just bought my brother an indoor skydiving experience for £20 instead of £60 for Christmas.

notsureatall · 07/12/2010 19:52

Anyone else had a bad experience with them?

I paid £10 for a voucher entitling us to £25 worth of goodies from a local shop. When we went to spend it, the shop said they hadn't finalised the deal with Groupon so weren't prepared to honour it and to take it up with them.

I have emailed three times now and tried to get through on the phone, but you get cut off after waiting a few minutes.

I know it's not a huge amount of money but it's the principle.

Someone has my £10 (and a lot of other £10s too.) But I don't know if the money is with Groupon (in which case I want a refund) or the retailer (in which case I think he should just give us £10 worth of goods)

maryjane71 · 07/12/2010 20:48

DH sent me the link for groupon the other day. Google tried to buy them out last year for 2 billion but they declined the offer. Not really taken off here yet but supposed to be the next big thing. Think I'll go and open that link!

willybreeder · 07/12/2010 21:00

One experience for me with a salon facial which I loved, obviously they will try to sell you products to make up for the money (but didn't manage in my case). Smile

SleepWhenImDead · 07/12/2010 21:01

I've bought one lot of vouchers for a soft play centre (a great deal) and one voucher for a colour&haircut which was much more trouble than it was worth. I would really recommend looking at the Ts and Cs as I could only get the colour&haircut monday-friday which was really annoying as I have 2 young DCs. I should have just gone to my normal place on a Saturday but I was excited by getting a deal. You do get the feeling that when you redeem the voucher, the company aren't feeling hugely positive towards you as they haven't got a lot of money for doing you a service. For e.g. I get the feeling if you had a meal out, they might be stingy on portions, etc, and you'd feel a bit of a cheapskate.

HowsTheSerenity · 07/12/2010 21:04

I LOVE groupon.
To date I have had:
complete makeover (cut colour and makeup) for £35
House cleaned £29
Pedicure £9
3 course meal £15
oh I could go on.
My boss has had his braces though groupon. £1200 instead of £3500!!!!

That and quidco. Perfect online shopping.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 07/12/2010 21:08

I've done quite a few Groupon deals, not had a problem yet.

Joined Streetcar for £12, a lovely 5 course afternoon tea for 2 people for about a tenner, a cheap photobook, night out at London Zoo....

The only problem I had was the cleaning company were booked up for the moment, but they were in touch straight away to tell me they'd be in touch in the New Year.

I like that the vouchers are valid for a few months, but you really need to read the small print to check the T and C suit you.

wolfnipplechips · 07/12/2010 21:08

Love groupon had my teeth whitened for 100 quid, microderm facialsx3 for 50, 12 beautiful cupcakes for a fiver, Good hotel breaks on the irish one which i like to keep an eye on just in case.

eastendmummy · 07/12/2010 21:14

I love groupon too and it's definitely not a scam. Have had spa treatments, acupuncture, teeth whitening, afternoon tea, meals to name but a few. Really live it.

Another good one is wahanda.com - mainly beauty stuff but great deals

AnyFuleSno · 07/12/2010 21:18

marking place so I can find this again

gregssausageroll · 07/12/2010 22:02

Can anyone tell me how it works? I've had a link through facebook but not sure what to do/what it involves.

notsureatall · 07/12/2010 23:17

Basically you join your local group and get emailed an offer every day.

If you like the sound of it, you "buy" it.

On the details it says how many people need to sign up for the deal for it to go ahead - if not enough people want it, the deal falls through - but you only pay if it DOES go through, so there is no risk. If it does go through, you get emailed a voucher...

...which in my (lone) experience, you take to the shop which then refuses to accept it.

Ah well.

TheNextMrsClaus · 07/12/2010 23:23

Liking the sound of this! I love a bargain. Where do I sign?

Rexy · 07/12/2010 23:29

Fab service from Groupon.I bought a voucher for MIL but she couldn't use it so they refunded me.

We have had meals out for £20
Polynese facial, manicure and pedicure for £29
House cleaning for £26

What's not to love ?

notsureatall · 08/12/2010 10:20

Did it take them ages to get back to you when you tried to get a refund?
