I've heard this winter is going to be colder that last winter Shock and I don't do cold.

So which coat is the worlds warmest? And if it were stylish, that would be a bonus.Smile

Oh, and I don't do reindeer skin!

Something with duck down.

My dh bought me a duck down jacket one year and it's so hot I can't wear it! Grin

CMOTdibbler · 08/11/2010 19:03

I have a Lands End down coat - it is toasty at -24'C, and their new ones aren't as puffy as mine

Francagoestohollywood · 08/11/2010 19:05

woolrich coats are deemed to be super warm. They are very popular here in Italy. They might be perceived as totally ridicolous in the UK though Grin

Panzee · 08/11/2010 19:06

I have this. It's one of the warmest coat's I've ever owned. :)

employmentlawquery · 08/11/2010 20:05

I have a Landsend snow coat - very warm.

ILovePonyo · 08/11/2010 20:08

Which is your coat Panzee? It went to the Nike website but not to a coat.

Thanks!

miniwedge · 08/11/2010 20:08

Gap actually had a coat a couple of years ago called "the worlds warmest coat" I have it, it's got duck down and a fluffy hood and is truly warm but too short so my arse used to freeze.

Now I have a Roxy parka and it is the warmest coat I've ever owned.

HowsTheSerenity · 08/11/2010 20:09

I wore a lands end one in Russia and it was -34 and I was toasty warm!

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2010 21:05

So this is the answer?

I'm going to give it 24 hours before I order, so if I've got it wrong, you all have time to tell me. Grin

I may be alone on this one, but Landsend seems a little fugly to me, and lynette, that coat looks like something i'd see my gran would wear (if either of them were alive!).....

however, I don't feel the cold so may be unable to empathise......Hmm

ConnorTraceptive · 08/11/2010 21:31

I would looke for something with a better shape to it tbh that really isn't a flattering coat IMO

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2010 21:53

Yes, it's fugly, but I will look slightly better wearing that coat than I will wearing the duvet off my bed, which seems to be the alternative.

ConnorTraceptive, is there such a thing as a shaply VERY WARM coat?

jennie83 · 08/11/2010 21:56

North Face Arctic Parka......well if it is good enough for the Arctic....

pleasechange · 08/11/2010 21:59

I have womens' version of this.

Can only wear it on extremely cold days though - it's so unbelievably warm (not the most stylish though, admittedly!)

greenlotus · 08/11/2010 22:00

target=product&productid=16342&categoryid=299 This Alpkit Filo is very warm, it's not so much shapely in itself but if you have shapely legs it will reveal them. (it has a bum covering long hem at the back)

New colours coming in December too!

LittleMilla · 08/11/2010 22:02

Lynette I nicked a massive sheepskin coat off my mum a couple of years ago when heading ooop norf from London for the weekend. Everyone told me I looked like a football pundit, but were laughing on the other side of their faces when I was warm & toasty whilst watching rugby in the snow. HA!

And now this year sheepskin is all the rage Shock so I am feeling all smug again. It ain't pretty, but super warm coats rarely are. TBH, I don't give a flying you know what, so long as I am warm.

So an alternative to the sleeping bag coats. But I am with you on attractiveness - funtion over form.

JeMeSouviens · 08/11/2010 22:03

I got a down coat from Lands End a couple of years back, and it did me a typical, freezing Canada winter, so I imagine it will be fine for the UK one upcoming.

I've just bought a Canada Goose long coat now, so I don't have to layer as much, but they are definitely overkill for anything warmer than -10C

deaddei · 08/11/2010 22:06

I have the Gap big duvet coat, which dh calls my chav coat- it's so warm. Had it about 5 years, but it is good as new.
However I was looking at the Lands End Squall long parka- anyone had that one? I'm 6 feet tall, and they have it in the tall sizing.

greenlotus · 08/11/2010 22:07

Sorry, terrible link

Alpkit Filo

It does shed feathery bits, though, be warned - do all down jackets do that?

JeMeSouviens · 08/11/2010 22:10

This is the Canada Goose one I got

Kensington in a shimmery grey. It has the tighteners on the side to give some shape, and inside, has arm holds inside so you can kind of put it on your shoulders a'la backpack style, when you're in the mall instead of having to carry it around.

Pannacotta · 08/11/2010 22:13

I am also on the lookout but do think the down coats are not very flattering, they seem to add at least a couple of dress sizes.
Shame there arent any nicer looking designs out there.

TattyDevine · 08/11/2010 22:17

How about this?

I think its a bit better. More £££. "Designer" though (sort of).

Very.co.uk is good though, if you want to make a bigger purchase, you can do "take 3" and pay it off in 3 installments, interest free. I dont do credit accounts with interest, but interest free is great if you are sensible with your money.

TattyDevine · 08/11/2010 22:19

Its got nice shape around the waist. Actually when it comes to long padded down filled coats I dont think they get much better than that in terms of streamlined-ness...

Pannacotta · 08/11/2010 22:25

This is more to my taste, but no idea how warm it is

I second the down-filled jackets idea
