I've heard this winter is going to be colder that last winter Shock and I don't do cold.

So which coat is the worlds warmest? And if it were stylish, that would be a bonus.Smile

Oh, and I don't do reindeer skin!

After a few weeks looking online and trying on a few different makes in a shop I went for this one North Face Arctic Parka The RRP is around £259 but I found a shop on line selling it for £208 so went with that and it arrived in a few days. The fur around the hood is detachable and it's really really warm. I'm normally a cold person and I've been wearing it recently to my sons football with just a thin long sleeve tshirt underneath and I've never been warmer while those around are shivering. I've never spend that much on a coat in my life but so far it's been worth every penny. Really delighted with it.

It's also water proof too, I did look at another north face one which which looks quilted on the outside and it's just shower proof rather than water proof - so it's something to be aware of.

You could wait for the MN reviews on that Berghaus Richmond one.
I think their Akka long down coat is the warmest but sleeping bag like.

North Face Arctic or Land's End Chalet/Chevron, or Akka down or anything with duck down fill over about 650 fill would be my.

BeaSpellsaLot · 09/11/2010 14:33

I have the Landsend chalet down coat, basically I don't give a shit if it's fugly, as long as I am toasty warm....which I am.

DonaAna · 09/11/2010 16:49

Fur, but not reindeer. Fox or mink. I like blonde mink. Full length is warmer than knee length. And yes, I live in the Arctic. Sheepskin is also warm, but never as supple and featherlight as a well-cut mink coat.

LynetteScavo · 09/11/2010 17:50

Dona, thank you for the suggestion, but I'm pretty sure Mink is out of my price range. Also, I fear I may be shunned by my friends should I wear real fur.

If I ever move to the Arctic Circle, though I will definitely bear your advice in mind.

I have a Lands End one too, it makes me look like a barrel but I don't give a shit really because it's very warm

saorachd · 09/11/2010 18:00

I think the term is fur coat and no knickers. Bit chilly for that sort of thing here.

Anyway, seeing as mink is pricey and shunnable, where are we with the coats?

I am eyeing a duffle on ebay. Stop me.

BeaSpellsaLot · 09/11/2010 18:10

I won't stop you! It's def better to be warm. Several people over a week have asked me where I got mine from.

I eye up the cold people on the school run now Smile

Pannacotta · 09/11/2010 19:00

azil your coat looks pretty good.
Is the material shiny or more matt?
