Come dress me for drinks & dinner at Soho House

DH's work christmas event.

I have a £130 budget.

Size 8.

I already have a huge selection of shoes/bags/accessories so am thinking I want either:

a great dress or......could I get away with black skinny trousers, heels and a fabulous blouse? Dress code says "cocktail" but Soho House is a bit quirky, no?

I also rail against the "corporate wife" image and therefore would prefer something different than Coast/Monsoon.

I think if you opt for the trousers, you need a lovely silk shirt or something very glam on top. Can't find alot at the mo tho.

Love this shirt

whistles dress
Fuschia dress
Ink drops

I'd go for a dress myself, the fuschia one is my fave.

Silkstalkings · 08/11/2010 16:55

How quirky do you want?
Showstopping
Boho minidress over skinny black trousers and sexy heels - think Kate Moss.

scoutliam · 08/11/2010 17:03

No fashion guru here but just to say been to Soho and Shoreditch house quite a bit, people wear just about anything but your idea of skinny jeans and top sounds perfect.

I think you're likely to feel overdressed in a "posh frock" if you know what I mean.

Yumi do some nice tunics well within your budget.

tulpe · 08/11/2010 17:40

thanks for all those suggestions :)

Love the Whistles fuschia dress. I love bright colour and that would work perfectly for me.

scoutliam - yeah I was thinking full on "cocktail" may be a bit much......even if all the other women in the group are in dresses, I would rather feel fab and cool rather than "dressed up for christmas event".

As silkstalkings suggests, was channelling a Kate Moss vibe.

My black skinnies are cotton something mix rather than denim, so they are very "evening" with a slight sheen to them, iyswim.

I'd be tempted to wear a blouse like this with your black skinnies.

Lots of lovely blouses around at the moment.

MarshaBrady · 08/11/2010 17:46

No Coast or Monsoon! Back I a bit to help.

traceybath · 08/11/2010 17:47

Or perhaps a little sequinned jacket as loved by LTEC Smile

tulpe · 08/11/2010 17:47

TB you absolute star! That is gorgeous and just what I had in mind. Something feminine and grown up but with an edge :)

I can see myself wearing that on lots of occasions too. I totally resent buying dresses that then sit in my wardrobe waiting for the next outing.

I have a navy sequinned jacket actually from Top Shop last year. Its shrunken, skinny fit with bracelet length sleeves.

If I went with that, what would I wear beneath? Usually just wear loose fit v neck tee but obviously would need something more dressy for this kind of event.

I think you should wear these grey shorts or these tweed shorts with thick Falke ribbed wool tights, knee high flat suede boots, a skinny belt and a very glamorous ivory silk blouse - lots currently in Sandro

vinvinoveritas · 08/11/2010 18:18

I think you should wear.. your black skinnies (as you feel good in them?) with some sky high black shoeboots

And your sequin jacket

with.. charcoal grey/black/navy silk top underneath? And then have fab make-up and accessories.

Soho House was reasonably normal the last time I was there (admittedly a long time ago).

I also love that pink dress though, maybe you'd feel less OTT-dressy if you paired a fab dress with black opaque tights and some ankle boots/shoeboots?

vinvinoveritas · 08/11/2010 18:20

top

vinvinoveritas · 08/11/2010 18:27

or
dress
with
tights
and
shoes

and a fab bag ...

I've seen the dress in RL btw it's very very nice.

notyummy · 08/11/2010 18:28

Tracey - I knew before I clicked that would leopard print Grin

And very nice it is too.

notyummy · 08/11/2010 18:31

What is it about the Whistles website??

The models always look like they have just dragged some random pretty, skinny girl ofgf the street and told her 'stand there'. She also looks a bit confused and unhappy about the whole thing (as you would be if you were just nipping out to get a sandwich and a random photographer accosted you...)

Sorry. As you were.

I like Tracey's suggestions the best so far, but plenty of good ideas.

FritziGreenEyes · 08/11/2010 18:33

Or how about this sequin dress which our fabulous cake has got? Again with Falke opaques and high shoe boots?

BelligerentGhoul · 08/11/2010 18:39

Oh that pink dress is so, so gorgeous. Please get that!

Or yes to grey silk top with your sequin jacket and skinnies.

I don't like that leopard print thing at all and think the shorts idea sounds very Austrian goatherd; sorry Bonsoir!

The dress looks beautiful and I like the idea of roughing it up a bit with the black opaques.

scoutliam · 08/11/2010 18:50

Bonsoirs got a good look there, might steal that for myself.

bettymoody · 08/11/2010 18:50

I like the shorts. Rink the sequin jkt is a bit gin and jag. Can't open silk shirt link.

I can't distance tulpe from hilarious dinner duty thread. Hope no messy eaters!

tulpe · 08/11/2010 19:02

betty - I think I was seriously hormonal last week Hmm and definitely more than a little pissed when I added my final comment Hmm (please don't search for it people. It wasn't my finest moment!!)

About the sequin jacket. My little number is more shrunken blazer style rather than the gin&jag set style :)

I couldn't carry off that sequin dress. Gorgeous though it is.

Bonsoir - not liking the idea of the shorts tbh. Agree with BG re: yodelling & goats.

So, the Whistles dress is a serious contender.

Aw! Happens to us all. Get a mirena though
Agree re dress. Lots of folk will be in everyday clothes I presume. Not so keen on pink one. Think sleeves better

mrsshackleton · 09/11/2010 11:19

Don't go for a dress, it's not Soho house at all

tulpe · 09/11/2010 13:17

mrsshackleton - that was my feeling too.

I tried on the Whistles dress today - the fuschia one. Looked like someone just plonked a load of parachute silk on me. Not flattering.

I found the Kookai blouse - its actually a lot paler in the flesh than on the link so will be quite draining to my complexion.

So.

Am stuck. ANy more ideas?
