Primark - Have you REALLY found anything good in there ?

Totally exasperated! Spent my lunch hour trawling Primark for any fashionable bargains and everything I tried on was vile and ill fitting.

I have bought two things in there in the past and both had to be thrown out after about 2/3 wears as went bobbly etc etc.

Does anyone really find anything half decent in there ?? Or am I just looking at the wrong things ?

Should say that I have bought the odd thing in there for my DCs which have been good and have lasted.

I've not had any good buys either, I found the childrens wear to be wide, no good for my skinny kids, and the sizing is all over the place. Havent bought ladies wear for a few years because of the sizing. People rave about the ladies pjs and underwear again i found it badly fitting and after a couple of washes fell apart.

I've often commented on friends or friends childrens clothes to be told its primark and i'm shocked.

I find the stores very messy and full of horrible people, staff and shoppers - even first thing in the morning.

A friend used to work in Primark - the staff tended to be foreign students (she was earning a bit of money after finishing her MA) and all lovely.

I've never found anything int here that does me bar tights. It all fits me poorly, or just seems a bit off somehow.

witcheseve · 29/10/2010 14:57

I hate going in there. Looks like a load of jumble to me.

DivineInspiration · 29/10/2010 15:01

I think it's hit and miss - a lot of the stuff looks and feels cheap and as though it won't wash well, but I've found quite a few lovely items over the years. I've bought a few nice skirts which have worn and washed really well, including a lovely black linen a-line skirt with big brocade flower on the front which a number of people have commented on. Also brushed-cotton long-sleeves ladies fitted t-shirts - I find them much better quality than even Topshop and Zara which are much more expensive.

BikeRunScream · 29/10/2010 15:02

I bought a long sleeve stretchy T in Primark for £1 when I was 4 months pg which I wore throughout pg and beyond (DS is now 2) and it has washed and worn really well, good colour etc. I buy a few long sleeved Ts occassionally to wear as underwear, but none has been as long lived as my original one. Other than that I have never found anything decent that I have liked, or has washed well, and their kid's clothes bring DS out in excezma. I just can;t face going in the shops now, they are messy, noisy and smelly and it's a lot of effort to then nor find anything I like.

GhastlyandUgly · 29/10/2010 15:03

I bought a dress in there a few months ago for £14.98 and wore it to my friends' 40th. I can honestly say I have never had as many compliments. I even had people I don't know coming up to me to say how fabulous it was.

ABitBatty · 29/10/2010 15:05

I had a bright green and blue 70's patterned tunic from there a couple of years ago which I loved with all my heart but has sadly ripped near the pocket when I aught it on something. It washed well and ironed easily and looked great [hsad]

I've had jumpers, pyjamas, dresses and kids socks from there that last well but the jeans and trousers I find terrible.

chanie44 · 29/10/2010 15:16

Primark was my first job when I was 16, but it wasn't 'in vogue' then :)

A number of years ago (when Primark was on its way up), I bought a top which I wore to work and everybody complimented me on it and were shocked when I told them it was £6 (they all thought it was from Oasis or something).

Nowadays, I always pop in, but everything looks like it needs a good iron (I don't do ironing). However, I do buy PJ's (they don't last as long as my M & S ones) and accessories (hair clips etc).

I do get stuff for DS in Primark, but only because he's 6 months and by the time its ready to fall apart, he's outgrown it.

chanie44 · 29/10/2010 15:18

I forgot to add, that in recent years, Primark has become really expensive, considering it is supposed to be 'disposable fashion'.

LynetteScavo · 29/10/2010 15:19

No, never!

nannynobnobs · 29/10/2010 15:19

I LOVE their stretchy V neck jumpers... I have one in black and white stripes which I wear with my Primark high- waisted pencil skirt and a Primark wide red belt. I have never received so many compliments :)
I also have the jumper in light/dark green and light/dark grey. They wash really well, have only very slight bobbling and have stood up to repeated wear.
Oh I have a short teal winter jacket from there too... This will be its third winter and it's still going strong, albeit a bit bobbled on the cuffs.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 29/10/2010 15:20

Never even crossed the threshold of such a horrible shop.

DaisySteiner · 29/10/2010 15:23

I buy all our underwear (except bras) from there and find it all wears and washes really well. Also like their pyjamas. Anything else I've bought from there has fallen apart or logo washed off.

ENormaSnob · 29/10/2010 15:23

Not a lover tbh.

DD had a cotton summer dress from Primark and the strap snapped on the first wear.

Same thing happened on a cotton maxi dress I had from there.

Sizing is very odd for both adult and children.

I got a pair of grey wooly tights and the crotch is mid thigh, they aren't too tight or small in any other way though. I am 5 foot 7, size 14 so not giant proportions.

DDs primark knickers have all come away at the elastic and have been binned, older debenhams ones are still going strong.

Kids pjs, socks and slipper socks are okay but I won't buy anything else. Its false economy imo.

LadyInPink · 29/10/2010 15:25

I bought a gorgeous bright red jacket in there and always get great comments when I wear it - had it years now! Bought loads of PJ's and tights and found them fab too.

Haven't actually bought anything in there for about 2 years now as hate the queues and the fact the clothing gets dropped on the floor and trampled on - it is like a glorified jumble sale in there most of the time.

DooinMeCleanin · 29/10/2010 15:26

My sister finds great buys in Primark and always looks good. She is not one of tjose annoyiong skinny beanpoles who look good in tatty sack either. I, however, cannot ever find anything in Primark.

FattyArbuckel · 29/10/2010 19:38

I am a fan of their PJs @ £5

mamalovesmojitos · 29/10/2010 19:46

i buy a lot in there. i find it cheaper than other shops so it's usually all i can afford. I have some lovely things from there, saying that, i prefer shops like oasis or warehouse, but find them too expensive.

primark is a godsend when you are broke Smile

LetThemEatCake · 29/10/2010 19:49

It's a diabolical place. But I have to say that I have some gems from there, gems that have elicited admiring comments from fashionable friends/ shop assistants etc, all of whom are Shock when I admit to their provenance ..

Mum72 · 29/10/2010 23:55

I bought a skirt in there 5 years ago. It still comes out every summer (when it fits me) and every single time I wear it I get the same compliments about my lovely "monsoon skirt". Grin

TheChamomileLawn · 29/10/2010 23:56

I think I had a pair of jeans I liked once, but that was years ago.

NannyPatsSausagePlait · 29/10/2010 23:56

I have bought a FAB 'waxed' black fitted jacket

looks like somehting from jigsaw

you have to be VERY discerning

bodycolder · 30/10/2010 00:02

See through frilly trollops knickers which sent dp nuts but are seriously thrush tastic

gaelicsheep · 30/10/2010 00:16

Yes! Those thin scarves (not winter woolly ones), 3 quid each and really nice.

But tried to look for my 4 month old and it was complete rubbish. Which surprised me since I've been given some really nice second hand stuff from Primark. Quite good quality too.

I am a bit of a snob about the place though. It's always in such a mess. People seem to just chuck stuff anywhere and the staff don't clean up after them.

Raaarrrggghhhfi · 30/10/2010 00:17

I looked all over London for the right straight leg skinny jeans and Primark's are PERFECT. Right size, right length, very comfortable.
