Straight legged jeans and shoes

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 14:16

My straight leg jeans are too bulky to tuck into my boots and too skinny to go over them. The only other footwear I own are ballet pumps and flip flops, what can I wear on my feet that
a) aren't Uggs Grin
b) are flat and comfy and warmish

Brogues

BUT I think you should get some skinny jeans then you CAN wear with your boots

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 29/10/2010 14:19

My default mode for straight leg jeans is Converse, but I know this is controversial on here Grin.

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 14:34

Sorry not keen on brogues!
I do have skinny jeans that I wear with my boots but I also have straight legged once too but can't decide what to wear on my feet!I have dallied with the idea of Converse but eventhough my feet are smallish (5) I can't help thinking they look a bit flipperish!

Have you tried ankle boots?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 29/10/2010 14:38

Depends if you like chunky or not but how about these?

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 14:47

I had a look at ankle boots today when I was in town briefly but being short and chunky calved I didn't think they did me any favours (was wearing leggings though) With straight jeans would I wear the jeans in or out of the boot (god I'm such a fashion dunce!)

Have the same problem here shufflebum.

When I wear my slim leg/straight leg jeans I tend to opt for my ballet pumps/flats but I put a pair of ankle high tights (deeply sexy!) on underneath so it looks like bare feet but my feet are still fairly warm and not exposed.

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 14:56

Ahh it's these kind of fashion secrets I need to know! I just find pumps a little bit.... flimsy (?) in this weather Confused

bananapeanutbutter · 29/10/2010 15:09

What sparkle said.

i also have a pair of chunky biker boots which I can just tuck them into.

sparkle1977 · 29/10/2010 15:17

ahahah I rather like my wearing hideous knee high tights being referred to as a "fashion secret" Grin

I feel hideous and granny-like wearing them so rip them off asap when I get home! Even my DS's find them strange and point at them and ask me to take them off and they are just 2.5 and 4.

I know what you mean about flats being flimsy in this weather but I too can't see an alternative.

beccagrace2 · 29/10/2010 15:17

i have fly yerba (sp?) shoes, brown shiny ones that look fab with my straight leg gap jeans....they are also the most comfy shoes that i have ever owned, very worth the money imo!

bananapeanutbutter · 29/10/2010 15:22

Sparkle there are some sexy over the knee tights out there Grin

Turk1 · 29/10/2010 18:04

I'm a recent convert to Fly Yedi(?) shoes. They seem to work with straight cut jeans and although they are very chunky in a picture they don't look nearly so heavy on. I hasten to add that I'm no fashion expert but they are v comfy and (I think) look quite good...

Iatemyskinnyperson · 29/10/2010 18:32

The answer is the shoeboot! (Is that what they're called? Starting to doubt myself as I see it written down)

I had the same dilemma, I got grey shoeboots that had a medium heel for comfort, but they were neat enough that they looked good with straight legged jeans.

I thank you

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 18:32

Thanks for trying Turk and Beccagrace but they're not really my thing either. It would help obviously if I knew what my thing was... any other suggestions?

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 18:39

linky please Iate Smile

OP posts:
Turk1 · 29/10/2010 18:42

Must admit, didn't think they were my thing either- nor straight/ skinny jeans for that matter, but have to say it's worked for meSmile. Another suggestion was ankle boots- for my birthday DH bought me Ash Jeff boots which I love. They have a slight heel so again don't fit your remit... I'll take my useless thoughts towards 3 yr old bedtime now!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 29/10/2010 19:01

I thought of shoeboots too, but the OP specified flat and shoeboots do tend to have at least a bit of heel.

I must say, though, I've started to wear heels a bit lately after being welded to flats for years, and I've remembered that mid-heels have never been a problem - in fact, I've had more discomfort from ballet flats than anything.

Might be worth trying a few on, as a heel does make your outfit that bit smarter I think.

vintage4 · 29/10/2010 19:02

can i ask when you wear ballet pumps can you wear natural coloured tights underneath for a bit warmth and to take that bare look away ?

Celery · 29/10/2010 19:06

Converse boots, no. Converse shoes, yes.

teej · 29/10/2010 19:38

I recently got a pair of ASH Penelope ankle boots these but in a gray-blue colour that are lovely with dark-ish denims and dare I say are even slightly leg-lengthening.

Am shortarse and chunky of calf so feel defeated it's easier to do ankle boots. They are v comfy (am 3.5-4, bought the 4 and can wear with thick cosy socks) and I quite liked the punky vibe.

Actually ASH are worth a look full stop, they have quite a good range of ankle boots. Good luck with the search!

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 21:36

Mmm quite liking those Ash boots, never heard of them before. I'm surprised that I like then though as they're not something that I would think to try on.

vintage if you scroll up there are posters debating the merits of pop socks and pumps Grin

Pray tell what is the difference between an ankle boot and a shoe boot?

OP posts:
PastaDiva · 29/10/2010 22:08

I think shoe boots are usually cut lower around the ankle i.e. beneath the bony bit, like this.

Ankle boots go higher up like this

But there might be more to it than that.

I had the same problem with straight leg jeans - bought one pair, only ever wear them with plimsoll-type things, and they are not flattering! Not buying any more, I think they are the least versatile of all.

shufflebum · 29/10/2010 22:17

Ahh, right, another thing to get my head round! I think after a few searches, what I am after is some sturdy pumps! Do such things exist without taking me into Granny territory? Otherwise I think it's goingto have to be the ankleshoeboot thingymabob.

PastaDiva · 29/10/2010 22:42

Well mine are a bit like these, but I know they wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

Sorry they're all Boden links btw, just find their website easy for examples as the layout is good.
