DMs won't keep your feet warm unless they're big enough for you to wear thick woolly socks with them - uggs will keep you very warm but they're not remotely waterproof so if you get caught in the rain you'll smell like a sheep and feel like a wet one!

cowboylover · 24/10/2010 17:03

DM's last, are super comfy once worn in and Uggs dont offer much support for your feet but are warm.

Not to mix it up to much but this sort of thing are great as do both;

I might have to get these!

mamijacacalys · 24/10/2010 17:06

Merrell Oslo www.jonesbootmaker.com/main/details/OSLO_Black/00730200B01

ANTagony · 24/10/2010 17:09

Weren't uggs developed as house shoes/ slippers for occasional stepping outside?

You can get fur lined DM's and they really last. here

mamijacacalys · 24/10/2010 17:10

Ooh, love all those cowboy.

I too am a DMs fan but am seriously covetting the Oslos after trying them on last week following someone on here recommending them as being indestructible, warm and waterproof.

hazchem · 24/10/2010 18:15

i can't help it but i have to have to say that uggs are meant to house shoes maybe maybe walk to yor back yard to grab the washing off the line. never ever ever step out the frount door wearing a pair of uggs. it's like wearing your nightty to go to the shops!
get the docs. leather boots and a pair of good socks wollen not sythetic shoudl see you through a pretty cold winter.

louloupoo · 24/10/2010 21:35

What a load of rubbish!! Since when do 'house shoes' cost £190???

I'm a devoted user of Ugg boots and have been for years. NOTHING is comfier. Granted they're not water-proof but they're a dam site more fashionable and comfortable than ugly DMs.

But ultimately I'd say it depends on how you intend to wear them, what with.

Uggs look much better with leggings or skinny jeans. Under boot leg jeans they're a bit lost.

But under no circumstances are Uggs meant just for indoors.

ANTagony · 26/10/2010 20:06

I saw a thing on TV (this morning? a year or more ago) about Uggs being originally as house shoes.

They do now do some with arch support so suitable for other than short term wear - this is not there whole range though.

There are lots of articles if you google by podiatrists about what they can do to your feet if you wear them for long periods.

If you go the Ugg route just check to see you get the arch support ones.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 26/10/2010 20:14

Good thread - I'm in similar situation. Have been looking at Celtic Sheepskin, particularly their Aqualamb boots www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/footwear/sheepskin-boots/aqualamb-sheepskin-boots/

smokinpumpkins · 26/10/2010 20:20

I have had a pair of DMs for 15 years, and they come out every Autumn and Winter (on third pair now) Current pair are purple, and they are great for snow, rain, walking etc. I can wear them to work with smart trousers, or with jeans.

They take a little while to break in, but are the most comfortable boots ever. I wear mine with extra thick socks - almost like slipper socks, and they have never been cold.

They are great for support too - I've always suffered from ankle problems and DMs are great. Have worn them since a teen.

DonaAna · 26/10/2010 20:27

Neither Uggs (I wear them indoors only) or DM (too cold), I bought these Ilse Jacobsen boots - they combine the look of DM with a super comfy cotton fleece interior and total waterproofness. I wear them even when it's dry, they are fabulous, my all time favorite boot!!!

MillyMollyMardy · 26/10/2010 21:16

I've just bought some Ugg Caspia's which are very comfortable, warm and so far waterproof. They were also a very good price on ebay.

pugsandseals · 27/10/2010 10:56

OK - these are the most comfortable and warm boots I have EVER owned!!!

And I have worn DM's for years

Rannaldini · 27/10/2010 10:58

never uggs

slippers at best

Grumpla · 27/10/2010 11:04

cowboylover, do you have the CAT boots? Reason I ask is I'm a weird half size, so if you could let me know whether they comeup big or small IYKWIM that would be really helpful!

I love those furry DMs but I wish they weren't pale suede... don't reckon they would last as long as leather.

thelunar66 · 27/10/2010 11:10

I like the look of DonaAna's rubber beige boots. Smile

Rannaldini · 27/10/2010 14:06

for a post mortem..... too medicinal for me!

said · 27/10/2010 14:13

I have the CAT boots. I am a 5 1/2 or 6 and I have them in a 5. Previously bought a 6 and they were way too big on me

Grumpla · 27/10/2010 23:34

Ooh thanks said I might have to order them then! Got loads of stuff ending on ebay tonight so hopefully I will make enough!

Can I ask how tall they are (from floor to top of boot?)

zonkin · 27/10/2010 23:53

Another DM fan here. Agree with others that they take time to wear in, but once worn in are so very comfortable. When it gets cold put on thicker socks.

said · 28/10/2010 15:56

Grumpla -We are talking about the Mardy ones aren't we? Have just dived into thread and assumed! They are sort of up to higher than mid-calf but not knee high

said · 28/10/2010 15:58

Should add that they are very heavy - good thigh workout when you wear them. And not especially warm - need warm socks with them. Mine were such a bargain though - only £49.99 at TK Maxx

Grumpla · 30/10/2010 20:08

Yes, the Mardy ones :)

I will have a stalk of TK Maxx here then, thanks!

Bit worried they may be weird length on me - I am very tall (and have comparatively small feet) and sometimes if boots are too short I look like I have stolen DS's shoes...
